Ren said to get those complicated guitar bits he plays them over and over and over again, at different speeds and volumes, morning, noon and night. Just doing it forever until it's encoded in his fingers. He makes everything look so effortless, and he spares so much time to make us extra content almost daily, that it's easy to forget how freaking much time it takes to write and gain the skills to perform so much of his music. Like the faux trumpet at the beginning -- he said he sucked at that for a long time, so he just kept trying over and over and over again. It looks easy, but he freaking works for it! For which I am so grateful. Excellent reaction!

A lot of reactors miss the ending because they're engrossed in the musicianship, his acting, the filming or talking etc..but not only did you get the ending but you also appreciated all those other things too. This is a masterpiece which really should win major awards in my opinion...it's just that brilliant. The beauty of it is that it just keeps giving. When u watch it again, yes I'm sure you will, you will re listen with the knowledge that Jenny was the same age as Screech and what that means with regards to Jenny's tale. The point Ren tries to make with the Tales is that of the effect of generational violence and a society that doesn't do enough to protect the children involved. We have become 'blasé' about the whole subject and let the children down in the process. Inspired by a real news report about a teenage boy stabbing a young prostitute that ended with the reporter non chalantly saying 'It's such a shame', triggered something in Ren to speak out about what circumstances could've possibly caused a tragedy like that to happen in the first place. Done on a shoestring budget, one take each tale and heaps of talent. ❤

Sorry, this is not bardcore, and the word was not coined by the Renegades. Ren performs this song in the style of a bard from the middle ages, but "bardcore" is an actual recognized micro-genre. It's where the artist takes a current song, usually metal or rock, and covers it making it sound like it's from medieval times. An artist by the name of Algal the bard, first did it in 2017 turning "Toxicity" by SOD, into medieval sounding song. It was listed as a micro-genre in 2020 when it went viral during lock downs and all kinds of people started making songs in that style. Ren has actually rejected the term bardcore to describe his music.

Thanks for your reaction 👍❤ Two genius details that are easily overseen/overheard: - At the beginning of Screech's Tale, when Ren sings "He melted into the black night just like snow" Ren almost disappears in the darkness for a moment in the video as well. - When you look up the original lyrics for Violets Tale you'll find that it's not "Grew up with violet stars", it's actually "Grew up with violeNt starTs". So crazy. Ren wrote the tales after reading an article about a 14 year old boy who stabbed a prostitute in an attempted robbery. The boy was shot by the police later that evening. "It's such a shame," were reportedly the words of a police officer at the scene.

What is with everyone, always wanting to put things in boxes? As long as someone produces music you like, what the hell does it matter "what genre it is"? It seems an obsessive trait amongst many people. I can only presume it is a leftover from the beginnings of recorded music when people started placing records on tables in a shop and were making it easier for buyers to find the record they wanted...? Quite bizarre, almost like people are putting a barrier up as to what they will and will not consider hearing? A very narrow and controlled way of looking out at a huge and chaotic world...? Trying to keep to a pathway they feel "safe" treading? Why not just accept that you like an individual song, or you dislike it? Why limit yourself to a "genre"? That is what I love about Ren, it all gets mixed together in one song, so he is not able to be pigeonholed into some ill fitting box! If anything, he is a throwback to the minstrels of old, I often imagine this played on a lute, with him at a village water well, or in a castle hall full of listeners....very medieval echoes of a time we can only imagine. I had forgotten how much you enjoy and "get" Ren's talent. A lot of reactors seem to take it for granted. I listened to this once with no voice, guitar only. I am not musical, so it put a whole new perspective on the song for me and highlighted his playing brilliance even more. This may have been filmed in Brighton, I am not sure. Perhaps someone will be able to point you to the right place for photos. It would be fun to see. I always thought he chose that lane, especially for the girl on the swing. Ed to add; you will love the 360 degree version he did live in a carpark. It is interactive, so you can move the screen to watch the crowd reacting to his words. It is really worth seeing.

If so, do a search for The Tales of Jenny and Screech (Full 360 Live), it's an amazing live performance for an intimate crowd of about 200 people or so, he also sings a song that didn't make it into this trilogy and reads a really bad ass poem!! He does it out on the street in the spot they filmed Screech's Tale, I think it's right about the time he's knocking on his guitar saying "Patrick let me in", is where they set up a little makeshift stage. It feels like your right there, two feet from him, pretty cool stuff. Great reaction BTW!! ✌💚

As many have commented, I think you'll struggle to fit this into any known Genre - as Ren is his OWN Genre! Yes. Master Lyricist, Multi-instrumentalist, Genre Hopping Composer and Singer, Actor, Narrator, Script Writer, Producer, Set Designer, Audio, Lighting Tech... { Have I missed any?} And yes, all One Takes, but that's not to say he hasn't rehearsed and Rehearsed and REHEARSED! Ren pays micro-attention to every single detail, including pacing out and timing every note, every breath, every move, every step, every nuance. This Trilogy is a Masterpiece and a Master Class. ( There are lecturers in Schools of Music and Drama in various countries who are now getting their students to study Ren's unique and incredibly creative groundbreaking work.} And there is MUCH More where this came from - so stay strapped in! Ren said during the years his illness forced him for long periods to stay virtually bedridden, his mind continued to create and create and he wrote over 4,000 pieces: snippets and full songs, beats, melodies etc. so this horse ain't gonna run out of steam now he's managed to bolt out the gate!!! {So long as he paces himself. He still lives with chronic pain and fatigue and other auto-immune effects from his long untreated Lyme Disease } Ren calls his'style Bardcore, a retro-genre evolved in the UK, but if we look at examples of this we see artists who use simple catchy Medieval tunes and lyrical styles / language to tell stories, but NOTHING like what Ren is doing. He genuinely IS The Modern Bard - who blends EVERY available genre and creative tool 'in service of' his Storytelling. Ren is not only a Creative Genius, but also a Powerful Social Commentator. In addition to doing lot's of fun stuff, and telling his own story, he deliberately shines the spotlight on the social ills of our current times. He has a social conscience and wants to use his arts to make a positive difference. To highlight the challenging things that we are inclined to look / click away from. Human tragedies that have their 15-20 second soundbite and then disapper in the relentless churn of the 24 hour news-cycle. In telling these stories he is saying; No! Don't look away. He doesn't lecture, but leaves the question hanging, sounding shockingly loud in the silence at the end: We KNOW Why and How why innocents like Jenny and Screech and Violent end up on pathways that lead them to becoming victims and/or perpetrators. Why then aren't we doing more to stop these tragedies?

Ren is indeed a genius, a fantastic performer, singer, actor, songwriter, composer, etc, etc he can do it all... These 3 videos are filled with so many small tidbits that you might have missed by seeing this for the first time: - the way he uses his words and sets the scene for example when he could've simply say that Screeched stabbed Jenny he did it in a much more poetic way (and continues to do it in other instances in the songs, like when the Police is coming for Screech "the shrill cry of justice like a Banshee in the night"), just the same when jenny froze he says it in a fantastic manner that sets a scene in your head... The way he used the Guitar to knock on the door in Screech's tale, the frantic camera going around him while he stood still to show the state of mind Screech was in, how he used the phone in the middle of the song with pauses and all to wait for the call to connect... how he said the police were coming instead of just saying "the police are coming" is truly amazing, and how he said that Screech was going against the police without saying just the obvious words... how he alternates between characters and narrator both in voice and acting (see how at the end of the call to the girlfriend he's panting, gasping for air as Screech and in the next second he's completely composed when he becomes the Narrator again, he even gets his posture to be more upright)... how he uses the guitar to fire the shots and the cameraman getting shot and falling to the floor... an amazing storyteller. - The way he tells that history repeats itself on Violet's tale, from being abused by her father to the cycle repeating with her boyfriend that ends up killing her... the way he knocks on the door and then shows how he picks her eyelids and opens them and he's right there face first on the camera, out of focus... how he again uses the guitar to simbolize the sounds of violence when Stevie hits Violet, like a crashing pilot! - The way he rewinds time at the start of Violet's Tale when he says "We must rewind time for Violet's Tale" and then he makes the rewind time sound with the guitar and then starts Violet's story... then after Violet gets beaten up he uses the guitar again, this time to un-rewind time and gets us back to the start of the song when you heard the sounds of the hospital machines, now we know why those sounds were there and how everything happened... it's pure genius!!! - Also, it's inevitable to draw parallels between Jenny and Violet and Screech and Stevie (his father) and the grandfather... despite not knowing any of their relatives, Jenny was just like her mother, Violet was silent, didn't fight back when she was abused and ended up being killed... Jenny when confronted by Screech completely froze, like a statue, wasn't able to move, to say anything, to defend herself, just like her mother... Screech was violent and troubled and ended up a murderer just like his father... All very tragic!! - To tie it all up, the Tales from Jenny and Screech were recorded in 2019 and Violet's Tale is, because of that set in 2005 (two zero zero five), 14 years before because in Jenny's tale we are told that Screech was 14 years old!
