I have a conspiracy on the meaning of the title "Ego Death" being connected to the video. The video starts off with Tim on the throne, then Scott gets on the throne, and at the end, Steve is on the throne. Basically, the ego of Tim dies when Scott is put in the spotlight, then both Tim and Scott's egos die when Steve is in the spotlight.
@KyleReynaert2 жыл бұрын
If you llok deeper, at each level of the song they move up through the building. Starts with tim in a lower, smaller windows less room. Then moves to scott in a larger room with windows signifying it is higher up. The Third section then has Vai on the roof top almost at its highest level only for them to all stand together back to back and shred as one cohesive embodiment. It finally ends with all three looking up even higher to another instrument, the trumpet(brass) to pay respect to where the rock genre ultimately comes from, jazz.

ego death is a process associated with meditation. it means there is no more cruft or bias in thought, reality is interpreted as it is not as you think it is. similar concept to nirvana and enlightenment.

It feels like, at the end when Steve starts really going in and the drums are running that marching rhythm, that this song is just an recruitment for guitarists. Like he's asking them to join their ranks and at the end, just in general, a love note to guitarists. Ego Death as a name also felt like it was referencing the heavy difference in genres played by Vai and Polyphia; they may be different, but it's better to kill your ego and work together and create something new/cool.

Steve vai was transcribing music for frank Zappa at 19 yr old. He was the guitar player that David lee Roth picked to play for him after he left Van Halen the first time. He is not someone to over look. He may be getting a little old but he is still the king! Great job and great song! if you haven’t heard of vai then go look him up. ❤

I don't think the term "guitar porn" captures what I hear in Polyphia's songs at all. Their music isn't just a show-off of technicality, or a simple flex of techniques for their own sake. They benefit their composition with their techniques perfectly, and with that they produce some very high-end music. Calling this song "guitar porn" can sound very reductionistic imo
