Our old drummer on out band got me into him plus Z Rock came on our airwaves in '87ish and played KD constantly. Just takes me back to a way better time/era in music, being a budding musician and better times in life in general. People seemed better..not the madness like today. This is prime Diamond! I was 16 yrs old and about 3 hours into an acid trip when I got hear this for the first time and it really was a pivotal experience in my life, to say the least. My brain was turned on super-human, enhanced experiential mode and I disappeared into my head for what seemed like a really long time. I don't ever remember the CD ending but I remembered other things I did that night as well. Anyway, I just remember having these really intense visuals of King and other made up creatures throughout and it was pretty frightening but what was really freaky cool was the auditory enhancement while listening to this! I guess typically you wouldn't really think that acid and King Diamond would mix well and was probably a bad idea. At least for me, it really wasn't like a conscious decision but I don't necessarily regret it either. People usually think of music like Pink Floyd or maybe jam bands or whatever but I really had an awesome experience on acid with King. And this music kicks ass without any drugs to begin with too! Pretty great stuff!

I love this album by too many things; but what totally blew my mind when I discovered this when I was 14 6 years ago, was at the end of the brutal story after all the musical greatness, Cremation. My mind was in other world after that, and when I saw how the main riff represents the flames and the rest of the instrumental carries the intensity of someone burning alive in a coffin, going more and more intense and infernal with that end to represent the death and the rising of a soul full of revenge ready to haunt.... Man, this is G O L D. I will never forget the show in front row in the Resurrection Fest, I hope see this legends come to Spain to see them for another time in my life.

I always thought King Diamond would be more intimidating, sonically, given everything, with the screams being a cross between Daniel Heiman and Amon Amarth, but instead it sounds like a good replacement for the original singer of Liege Lord, if a fair bit better. Don't get me wrong, it's some excellent 80s metal, which is my favorite kind of metal, but not quite what I was expecting.
