K-pop is not a genre like pop. It's an industry that was influenced by US 90's R&B and Hip Hop and has since incorporated other genres like pop and EDM. It's more about performance, dancing, music video visuals, and a system where companies train young talent for years before they debut in a group. They wouldn't even call it k-pop so much in Korea, they would call it Idol music because the performers are trained to be Idol-like. BTS more than the average k-pop group not only mixes genres within songs but switches up genres within albums and between album sets/eras. Plus, more than the average k-pop group, they are heavily involved in the songwriting process. Thanks for checking it out. I hope you enjoy your journey!

Just an FYI that their official MVs have English captions and are an integral part of their art. As long as you play the label’s logo in the beginning, you shouldn’t have to worry about a copyright strike. This song is from their Love Yourself series, specifically the second album Love Yourself: Tear. The album series tells an overarching story. You might enjoy the song Outro:Tear. It’s a rapline song, which has an amazing live performance from Wembley (the live performance is available with English subs and is really powerful)

@@RubberToez That's exactly right. BigHit/Hybe are really cool with people learning about BTS and sharing it. You actually have a higher chance of getting a copyright claim when you're reacting to the songs that aren't from their official channel than the other way around. Not to mention that without their dance and visual part of the story you're missing practically a good half of the song's meaning, they are deepening it immensely. The MV to "Fake Love" is really something special, all of them are. PS. Yes, the sounds are legit. You're not reacting to the album version here but to the MV version without the visuals.

Don't worry abt the quality of the live performances. I promise you there are a BUNCH of them that are really high quality. K-pop it self is an industry and an art form much more than it is a genre of music like pop, rock, etc. K-pop tends to focus a lot on visuals and BTS in particular are usually put a lot of thought into the concepts of their albums, music videos, dances, etc. MVs and live performances are (IMO) what really sets k-pop apart from western music and artists. It's an EVENT, every last one of them. Hope you enjoy the ride. 💜

One thing to remember is that (very broad generalization) unlike western pop, which was born and grew on radio with visuals taking more of a backseat until the rise of music videos, the k-pop industry developed on television, so a strong visual component involving choreography, costuming, makeup, and thematic concepts were as important as the vocal element right from the start. Another thing to keep in mind as you start watching BTS MVs is that some of them are part of a fictional storyline (BTS Universe, or "BU"). In those MVs, the songs work more as a soundtrack for the visuals rather than literally spelling out what's going on. In songs like "I Need You" or "Run", parts of the BU story are acted out. In songs like "Fake Love", there are no actual story scenes but instead there are visual references and call backs to story elements and scenes of other MVs. So on first viewing the MV for this song, there's going to be a LOT that seems surreal and have no relation to the lyrics. BTS: the fandom that makes us do homework to understand their catalog!
@djlivvy46 Жыл бұрын
I have heard that theory in the first part of your comment before, but I really don't understand how it came about to be honest. Right from the start of the music industry, the visual aspect was extremely important which is why the artists were always so well dressed. Even back in the 1920's the jazz bands were stylish and had their own form of choreography. Little Richard was using makeup and showmanship way back in the 1950's and David Bowie was wearing makeup and performing contemporary dance in the 1970's, long before the MTV era. Even The Beatles used their haircuts, suits and dancing to make a statement in the 1960's. The only thing that K-pop groups are doing differently is that they have more members in their groups, as far as I can see.
@sarahy1680 Жыл бұрын
@@djlivvy46 (Again, VERY broad generalizations ahead!) I think it's really a matter of tools and timing. And we're talking about what worked for the industry as whole, not necessarily what the artists might have wanted. Western pop started earlier and developed with tech that allowed a piece of media to permeate society at a slower rate. Each time tech changed, it had to learn to adapt to it. (Nothing moves slower than an industry that thinks it's already figured out the market. Even if artists want change, the machinery running things is going to stick to the tried-and-true for as long as it can. Capitalism! Artists, like Bowie, who made major changes to their images were, for a long time, an outlier. Most polished up a specific style and kept to it.) K-pop emerged when people started expecting things faster and tech was available to fill that expectation. So the industry started with that mindset already in place rather than having to change from an earlier business mode. Entertainment has always had a visual aspect, of course. But western pop music goes back to when radio and records were how songs were *first* experienced and most people didn't get the chance to see anything but still pictures of the artists. Perhaps they might see one performance of a specific song on film or (eventually) TV. Most people *didn't* get to go to live shows and remember, movies used to only play in theaters for a week or two! TV shows aired once. Repeated access to visual mass media is a fairly recent development (movies on TV, re-runs, VCRs, DVDS, internet) and meant that the life cycle of specific songs/performances was much longer, permeating the culture much more slowly. So new content wasn't expected to appear as quickly as we do today. But K-pop was designed to be experienced on TV right from the start and with multiple weekly music shows and competitions. It's like there were a half-dozen versions of Top of the Pops on each week and a group appeared on each and did a different grand production on each of them. And K-pop also developed right when audiences started be able to access content more often and thus get used to it faster. It saturates the culture and the audience expects new content sooner. MTV might have put some videos on heavy rotation but that's nothing compared to the on-demand culture we have now!

they have a rock version of this song too its the extended version of the music video were used to reactors reacting to the music video or color coded lyrics so theres gonna be people wanting that tbh imo i like this reaction cause my favorite part is the lyrics and the visuals usually have most people splitting their attention and missing the lyrics. it may not be everyones favorite approach but id love for you to react this way and maybe visit the music videos for the visuals later if youre even interested in the story the videos tell. imo reactors dont pay enough attention to their lyrics when the lyrics are written by the members based on their lives and are one of if not the most important parts of the songs. color coded lyric videos will help you understand who is singing but theyre usually smaller fonts and many of the most viewed channels are translated wrong. which ever channel you used for this video did good unless they just got the lyrics from the music video im not sure. anyways its up to you if youre genuine armys will watch regardless of how you choose to react. id also like to mention kpop isnt a genre and bts arent really kpop. theres a lot of debate on if they are or arent but thats because the west made the term kpop to separate korean artists from western/english speaking artists the same they do with latin and any other music in other languages. all the same genres you hear in america/english speaking countries exist in other countries/languages too. bts do almost ALL genres. theyre not afraid of experimenting mixing genres or trying new styles as a group and as solo artists. plus they also collab with people who do genres theyve never done before and after their military service they will probably incorporate all these new styles theyre trying as solo artists into the group music. dont see bts as "kpop" or a "boyband" see them as a collective of artists who can join together as well as be solo at the same time who write produce compose etc plus singing, rapping, dancing etc some of them even play instruments but havent incorporated it into many performances yet (theres been a few but not enough to say they regularly do it) but they may do more in the future.

I beg you, don't put BTS' music in a box and don't wait for the "pop" to happen. K-pop isn't pop and BTS are barely even considered that. They are their own genre and are mixing it all together. Their songs are rarely even similar to each other, but you'll always know that it's BTS because they are the absolute legends in what they do. Their cute, bubblegum pop songs can really be counted on one hand and most of them were made during the pandemic to cheer people up. You clearly are into particular genre. I listen to hard music whether it's rock/metal or hip-hop but calling myself a fan of one particular genre would be too confining for me, almost suffocating, so being an ARMY (a BTS fan) was the easiest and most natural thing for me. If you like labelling the genres, BTS will be a tough cookie for you. Once upon a time I liked identifying the genres in music while listening to it but when BTS has found me things like that became meaningless.

You are right. They put the translation over the MV and the sound effects on the MV. Mind you the original already has CC on the down right that are pretty good and seem to be the same. The MV is very good. I have seen many reactors do the full MV with the beginning logo. In their "Love Yourself" album they tell the story of a "perfect" relationship (first album) that breaks because the narrator is not true to themselves. In the last album we get the answer: you have to love your imperfect self first before you can love others. Fake Love is the the main single from the second album where it goes from "I don't know why" to "I do know why" and the relationship breaks. It is not necessarily a romantic one. It can be a relationship with yourself, friends, family etc. You nice! Keep going! 💜

I'm happy to see you react to another BTS song and hope you are interested enough in their variety to continue your journey with them. I see so many others have commented on the captions, lyric videos, and importance of official MVs. Let me address those requesting live performances. ARMY love to help newcomers LEARN about BTS. We know their vast catalog best (we even know by heart songs that the members themselves have forgotten, lol) including the many live performances of their music. You *SERIOUSLY* don't realize how much BTS varies from song to song, genre to genre, same WITHIN each album, nevermind that they are going on 10 years since debuting together as a group, and ALL SEVEN members have individual works. I could go on more about the variety to be found even with each individual's works since they grew from teens to men reaching their 30's, and still it will only be words scratching the surface. The friend that recommended BTS to you know your musical taste and chose a song that is a non-popular introduction to their music (very much not to say that it is an unpopular song). I'm sure your friend knew the unexpected direction of the song would appeal to you a bit more than more usual introductions, but might also shake you from some preconceived notions you night have unconsciously held. Those who viewed your reactions HEARD YOU, and responded with suggestions that MIGHT fit YOUR musical tastes. They suggested live performances not only because BTS are SUPERB live performers (blow your mind good) but also because they often perform with a live band and those versions of their songs tend to cross into music metal-heads really enjoy. There is a harder edge and authenticity that many of us that enjoy rock/metal particularly appreciate even more than the album version. You spoke, we answered, and we tried to assist you as you try to navigate through the vast content produced by BTS. I'm a bit confused why you would toss that assistance away, in favor of your inexperienced "preference", but ultimately, it's your channel and your choice. Just thought I'd try to shed light on the comments you're receiving. I'm looking forward to see where your BTS journey takes you.
