Meryl, Yes you are a nutt!..I have been watching you from a far(across the water)merry old England,) (North devon}. for some time now and without any doubt you are the most level headed, lateral natural provider of titbits of detecting bar non on the Web... (That was a sort of compliment, of sorts). Well done mate, Always come away with more better understanding, and your funny with it.. Massive storm serges, detecting @ night. YOU are the man.. That's the reasons why I watch you.. The time you put into detecting is crazy, your bags under those eyes are looking so heavy now, long days long nights.. Keep at it your a national treasure. In this case, all of your logic and science was blown away by the hurricane. The stuff is where you find it and that’s really the only parallel that you can draw. I agree that many things are lost in the water but many are lost playing ball or frisbee. The gulf rules aren’t the same as what you’re used to.

Spent Tuesday at Asbury Park NJ and Wednesday on Long Branch beach. Seems everything I found was all pushed up about 30 yards on the beach. Was out at low tide and found nothing more than a few coins. Everything was up top. You could see how high the water was by the color of the wet sand meeting the dry sand. Ton of change and a apple watch which I was able to return to the young lady who lost it. Great video, wish I could have been there.

Great fun video man! 🌞 1. I live on the gulf beach. That corroded little copper ring was most likely dropped in the dry. I find 50 just like it in the dry every year. They wont last a month in the wet. 2. No I dont agree. Most rings are lost in the dry. People are on the sand losing stuff every day of the year here. And they'll lose all their jewelry at once when they head to the car. But only the crowds are in the water for about 4 months once the water hits 84F. The dry is POUNDED by detectorists so that often makes folks think less is there. In my area the detectorist ratio is about 40 dry : 1 wet. Still the water and sand stay hunted out. Folks using scuba and nemo keep stripping the finds all over the deep wet. Salt and fresh. Your total finds don't reflect the totals being lost wet and dry. I find the totals lost have more to do with whether or not the person intentionally goes to the beach covered with jewelry. And many beach goers go to be seen covered in jewelry.💎😎 And most of the women in that group don't want their hair or nails wet. 💍

Epic as bro! Yeah I would agree with that 90% of the rings and jewllery are in the wet. I haven’t done many beaches like this round in NZ, but I had a trip to Gold Coast Australia and did the beach there, I saw multiple different detectors getting up and swinging over the beach from my hotel some mornings but went down there and detected, and it was like 1 target per 20 minutes but like 30% of them were jewllery! Couldn’t go deeper then knee height but around half my jewllery was in the wet even though I only spent 1/4 my time there, was such enjoyable detecting and shocking to see how much was there despite how much it had been hammered. I’m going with an even 50 / 50 on the dry / wet ring recoveries. In the summer a large % are in the dry sand (the ol towel flip I reckon) and in the winter time there is almost nothing in the dry, it’s ALL in the wet sand.

Hey Merrill. No doubt that first ring you found was pushed up high by the agitated surf . I would say 90% of Beach goers loose their ring in the water but keep in mind I have been detecting for almost 40 years and hunted a fresh water beach just butt one time😂. You have taught me everything I know about beach hunting haha. 1) No because it was right at the top of the beach. 2) No because when I detected beaches I found jewellery on the wet and in the dry in about equal measures but if I had to pick one I would say the wet at about 65% and the dry 35%. 😀. My best ring from a beach was found on low water on an isolated beach frequented by pixies during the dark long winter nights. 😳. HH from across the pond. 🙂.

I’d say it’s 50/50 rings dropped wet vs dry. When I was married my wife left her engagement ring in the sand accidentally. She had taken it off to keep it safe. I had to go back to the beach to look for it. No detector at the time. I was lucky to find it within a minute or so, because I’m smart.

LOL I appreciate you. I almost edited it out but I couldnt resist keeping it in. I kept it in for the detectorists who would find the humor in that!

Weston super mare pier burn down in 2008, The beach is huge as the tide got out a very long way, anyone that metal detects on this beach will find bits pier as they annoying sound excellent targets and range from small bits to huge what looks like very thick heavy duty wire and can be a foot long buried in deep, the tide has also took this stuff all the way to Bream Sands and has to get past a large peninsula so makes you realise just how much the tide can move targets and it’s miles and miles in some cases.

As for rings, there must be a good % that are taken off before going in the water, and put on a towel, so that they don't get lost 😮

Hi Merrill... great to see you out in Florida... you rock, in storms and in the calm! I must confess... just about every ring I have found at the beach has been higher up or in the dry... and I have yet to find gold this year!! Happy hunting!

I hope you left your comfort zone and hunted the dry up high ! Beautiful opportunity to do so. ! I miss the beach but do old 1700s here instead. Just affordability is all

It was awesome that you hooked your new friend up with Taco Bell! I still crack up every time I hear the music associated with finding a ring.

Do you think that beach is over run with detectorists compared to your NYC area beaches?

It’s strange. Last year yes. This year no. Ian damaged the local economy and changed habits. Fort Myers was popping last year. This year it is a ghost town with boarded windows.
