This time we found traces of an abandoned WW2 US machine gun position in the Ardennes Forest. We also discovered evidence that this site could have been visited by veterans not too long ago.

My Grandma served in ww2 and she was a code breaker. She help break the Japanese code. And she passed away 2 years ago. She left me ALOT of ww2 coins. From Nazi coins, french, Japanese, U.S and I have a entire shoe box full of coins. But they are made of silver so the markings on them are wore down a little

I wonder if in the future someone will find one of my teams machine gun positions in the jungles of Vietnam just south of the DMZ. We ( Delta Co. 1st. Bn. 4th Marines) ran into an ambush in Sept. 1966 and had 18 dead and 22 wounded in my company during the first few hours of the firefight. That fire fight would end with less than two Marine rifle companies ( maybe 140 Marines) being pinned down for 3 days by the 324-B North Vietnamese Div. of about a thousand men. We were unable to get anyone dead or wounded out or supplies in. Some who would have probably lived died becasue of it. Marine choppers braved anti-aircraft fire to swoop in over our position and push out supplies, some ammo water and medical supplies landed on our position but most went down the side of the hill. What we got keep us in the fight. Finally contact with the NVA broken after we called our own artillery in on our position and Marine aircraft dropped HE and Napalm on the hill around us. We got our dead and wounded out...and we limped out under our own power. I never heard a final count of causalities . I was a 19 year old machine gun team leader. Gy.Sgt. As an ex British soldier this video really brought back a lot of emotions and memories for me that I definitely didnt expect when I first started watching this! Just try for a moment to be that man who laid those coins down in that forest and the emotions and memories it must have stirred within him. I know the men who found the coins correctly returned them to the forest but only with reflection can they begin to understand the gravity of what they found and how they conducted themselves. The ability to keep the memory of those brave men alive like this is a true gift. Thank you.

The quarter is my home state of New Hampshire... My father, Seth Holden fought in the Battle of the Bulge as part of Patton's 3rd Army. He was the gunner on a 40mm Bofors Gun and had come ashore at Normandy of the 5th day. They had been sent for Rest & Recuperation but on the first night of R&R they were rolled out at 0200 hours and sent back into battle due to the German Offensive. They had not been issued winter uniforms and were still wearing the clothes they came ashore with back in June. As they left, the gun crew ran to Belgian civilian houses and begged for winter coats. Seth ended up with a Belgian WWI Greatcoat. During the battle, Seth shot down a german Heinkel airplane at night as it passed in front of the moon. Next day he went to the wreckage and found the pilot and crew burned to death while still strapped in.

Thank you for leaving the coins where you found them. Also, the 1921 buckle was not made specifically for the Garand, though it may have been used with one later, because the Garand was not invented until 1936.

This video really hit home for me. My Dad was in the Ardennes battle in WW-II . I saw it as one of the battles he was in on his honorable discharge papers. He was a PFC (private first class) I wasn't born for many years later (1964) looking around that forest, I couldn't help but wonder if my Dad had looked on the same scenery at some point, long ago. Lost my Dad in 1980, God rest his soul.

From a veteran, thank you for returning the coins to the forest battle site. Always learning a few more facts from your videos. Great stuff and be careful. Even though it's old and left out in the weather, munitions sometimes will go BOOM!

I'm going to guess that the axe was part of the OVM Pioneer tools of a Jeep and it mounted on the side. I'm a retired US Army SFC and after being stationed in Belgium (S.H.A.P.E.) I moved back permanently and now reside in Brussels. I walked the Ardennes about 3 years ago with General Patton's granddaughter, Helen. It's extremely peaceful and quiet. Thank you for putting the coins back.

One thing you may be overlooking with the American coins is that they total 45c. Quarter is 25, and Dime is 10. Could simply be symbolic in that their total indicates the year of '45.

A quarter is .25 cents, a dime is .10 cents, a nickel is .5 cents, a penny is .1 cents. If a number is found on an american coin it is likley the year it was made

@@bigmoe8344 A quarter is 25 cents, not .25 A dime is 10 cents, not .1 A nickel is 5 cents, not .5 (which is more than .1 so you basically just said a nickel is worth more than a dime) A penny is 1 cent not .1 ( which is what you said a dime is so apparently a dime and a penny are worth the same thing) Your stupidity makes me ashamed to be an american.

The m-2 machine gun or more affectionate title " ma deuce " also had a tripod mount for use by infantry! I am certain that the tripod was used during ww2. We have far more advanced mounts and optics today but the exact same m-2 (50 caliber) is still in use today!

The Ardennes was such a moving place to be (I've always been interested in WW2 because of my Grandpa who served) Knowing what we know about what happened in that forest just walking through it and no one else there had a very...different feeling to it. You almost didn't want to make a sound.

100k is impressive! Nicely done!! I have only recently stumbled across your channel and you have grown to over 175k subs since this videos release. I am betting you will hit a million before you know it. I like how you edit them into nice short videos with just the highlights. I have found that several of the battlefield detecting channels I have seen keep their videos way too long and include every single piece of rust they find. I really enjoy them and keep up the great work!! Edited for spelling mistake.

First: thank you for returning the coins you found and the respect and honor that you showed. Second: I may be able to help you with the .50 cal casings that you found. During the battle, the Divisional HQ of the 101st Airborne decided to reassign some units from my brother-in-law's unit (81st AA Airborne Battalion). Three of the batteries (A, B, an C) were anti-tank, and the other three batteries (D, E and F) were anti-aircraft - specifically armed with Browning M2 .50 caliber air-cooled machine guns. Batteries D, E and F were parceled out to support the Parachute Infantry Regiments (i.e. 501st and 506th) and the 327th Glider Infantry Regiment. They were assigned key areas of the front lines so the weight of fire from their machine guns could and did supplement the infantry positions. These were most notably along the southeast and south parts of the Bastogne perimeter, but others as well.
