Rachel Potter is a Broadway actress who got her start playing Ariel in the stage shows at Disney World. That's where she met some of the guys who were also working there as singers. So she really has the voice of a Disney Princess!

This medley was my introduction to VoicePlay and it's one of my favourites of them, Rachel is a great friend of theirs, she's been the most featured in their videos, they even have a playlist in their channel with only collaborations with Rachel. If you want to see more of her check out their version of Phantom of the Opera, the Moana Medley and Kidnap the Sandy Claws (this one is good for Halloween). J. None was their baritone that just left this year to the Navy, you've seen him before in Carry On Wayward Son, Queen in 5 minutes... Now there's Cesar who you saw in Hoist the Colors. Btw Layne arranged this one and Eli did the lightning.

Ooh, and Attention, originally by Charlie Puth. Rachel and VoicePlay absolutely kill that, and not a lot of reactors have checked it out. Shame, really.

Rachel Potter also sings in the Phantom of the Opera video that Voice Play does as well. That is one of my favorites of theirs. My other favorite is If I Were A Rich Man/Girl which is absolutely stunning!

Eli has this ability to color his voice for different characters. Less snarl/grit in this, much sweeter. We don’t get to hear Layne sing much, but it hit me this time that he’s actually got that skill as well-in spades, as does Rachel. Lots of singer/actors can do character voices, but SINGING in character voices isn’t something everyone can do. It’s great that these guys are all so multifaceted.

Geoffs slide in Poor Unfortunate Souls was D5(mixed) - D1(Sub(i think)). A 4 Octave slide and he still could go both deeper and higher. Its just not fair at this point xD

I can't help but fall in love with Geoff's deep bass talking & singing. I love when he plays the evil parts. That bass sound really came out all throughout the song. Thank you again for a great reaction.
@billparrish4385

That slide Geoff does that you backed up and replayed, goes from a high of D5 (no small feat for a low baritone, as Geoff describes himself, who's able to cover as much of the low bass range as he does) all the way down (and there's some debate on this) to either a D2 with a D1 layered on (listen carefully while he's sliding, and you'll hear his own low voice layered behind the slide, singing a low harmony), or vice versa. So either a 3-octave slide or a 4-octave slide, and still hitting a D1 with one or the other track, depending on which one he slid to, or layered after. Just an incredible singer, in either case!

Oh, I could go on and on, with the recommendations for various VoicePlay tracks, and I'm just gonna tell you right now- pick what sounds interesting from what other commenters suggest, because you are really not going to find a bad track among them. Instead, I'm going to take the opportunity this time to hopefully bring another band to your attention. Oddly enough, Geoff and his crazy subharmonics is what led me down the rabbit hole of traditional throat singing, of which some variants (particularly the Mongolian khoomei) operate on basically the same principles. And this led me to the very impressive Mongolian metal band, the Hu. While the Hu is about an 8 man ensemble, it's identified by it's frontsmen and founders (I'm not going to attempt their actual Mongolian names, but give you the shortened nicknames instead)- Gala, Jaya, Enkush and Temka. These guys all have a conservatory background, and Jaya actually taught traditional Mongolian music for about 10 years at a very prestigious university in Mongolia (the same place they all graduated). What makes this group so fascinating is their ability to meld traditional Mongolian music- including folk instruments such as morin khuur (horsehead fiddle; an ridiculously amazing two-stringed instrument that can produce a jaw-dropping variety of sounds), the tovshuur (a three or four stringed Mongolian lute that looks like a very aggressive guitar), the tsuur (an endblown flute without a mouthpiece) and the aman khuur (basically, a jaw harp) alongside bass and electric guitar and drum kit (along with a second set of drums which are likely more traditional, but I haven't found more info about those yet). It's a sound that, on description *shouldn't* work, but in actuality will reach inside you and strike the most primal of chords in your soul. I don't know quite how they connect on that level, but it is immediate, gripping and will make you ready to run out to a raze a village or two! These guys are another group where I will say pretty much anything you choose to listen to is golden, but some good intros are: Wolf Totem, Yuve Yuve Yu, and Sugaan Essena (which is a part of the Star Wars universe, actually!). Or, if you want something a little more familiar to ease in, check out their cover of Metallica's song, Sad But True. It's possibly more intense than the original.

Oops, forgot to mention the tie-in! Along with those instruments I mentioned, they also incorporate traditional throat-singing into their vocals. And not just khoomei, but kargryaa and sygyt, the last of which is closer to Tuvan throat singing, and instead of going deep it produces a high, oscillating near-whistle tone above the sung fundamental note. And damn, these guys make it look so easy! If you pay attention to their video intros, most of them feature a little bit of sygyt, although it's such a weird sound that it's easy to mistake it for some strange instrument instead. But no, it's voice (probably Jaya or Enkush, who are the two I've seen demonstrate the technique. Gala is the one who leans most on khoomei.). One last note, and I swear I'll shut up for a bit- be sure and turn on closed captioning for all their music. Since they sing in Mongolian, they provide translations. It is for sure worth reading them.

You're called "The Metal Guy", but I don't see a video for "The Hu" either "Wolf Totem" or "Yuve Yuve Yu"... Oh, didn't I mention, they do Mongolian metal with traditional instruments! You won't understand a single word, but then again, you really won't care either! };] Yes, they are that good! };] Cheers and please give them a try!
