Dimash isn't just a great singer, he's a vocal genius who knows exactly how each song should be arranged so you really don't want to miss anything. In one particular show he was working with 5 other artists (not all of them singers) and stayed up all night working on the musical arrangement so that everyone had their chance to shine.

I was SOOCKETH when I listened to this song! The Fifth Element is also one of my favourite movies, especially the Diva's performance, gives me chills and the fact that Dimash, a GROWN ADULT MAN can hit all those super high notes, which mostly came out of a computer 5:42 like you said, is insane, but Di is a freak of nature, and I say this with all due respect

Your Dimash reactions are such a delight! Li Yugang is a star of the historic Peking Opera, where he plays female roles. The vocal quality is both traditional and practical -- it carries to the back of a very large space, and it cuts through the instruments accompanying him, which are big on clashing cymbal-like sounds. The performance was. a mashup of Diva Dance and a Chinese classic called Drunken Concubine.

Dimash goes an octave higher than the whistle note he did here. Li is a Chinese Opera singer, he’s very famous in China. He’s in his 50’s (he doesn’t look it!), and he usually takes the part of the female in his opera singing.

The other guy is also a pride of China. He is a product of a top music school. He looks young, but if I am not mistaken he is already more than 50 years of age at that time. It appears that the song fits his voice perfectly as he is used to sing the female version. His style is good like the older generation of Chinese singers whose voices and singing style radiate calmness. You should watch the beginning to hear Dimash growl.

In the first Diva Dance, my favorite part is the wiggle slide but I am a big fan of Dimash piping at any time. ❤ I am also shocked by how accustomed the audience is to Dimash that most do not even clap. Sure hope that never happens to me. Even if absolutely exhausted clapping for 3 hours, I would still clap for any Dimash performance. That said, when you asked about whistle tone, I thought it is only a G7, no big deal for Dimash.🤣🤣🤣👍😊 The second is one of my all time favorites. Too bad you missed his lovely vocal fry but there is so much about this duet that is amazing. Enjoyed your reaction. When he dropped into his lower registers & your eyes got as big as saucers. LOL. That whistle note has been identified as D 8, but I'm going off what I heard. Dimash says he doesn't really know his vocal range because everytime is different. And he says as long as his audience is pleased, he's happy! If you look in dictionary under vocal perfectionist, you find DIMASH. He has worked extremely hard to get where he is and continues to do so. Check out Opera 2 for a big treat. Not only are the vocals perfection, but that has got to be one of the best stage performances of his life. He was only 22 at the time. Thanks for the reaction, Viking. I enjoyed it. He's so fine. 🔥

Exactly. Different training and cultural styles. The Chinese Opera Singer had specialized trained to sing the female roles which is why he sounds authentically feminine. Dimash was trained in a broader sense where he can sing like the female European Opera singers that have a ‘fuller’ sound. For people unfamiliar with Chinese Opera, I can understand why they think the Chinese male vocalist’s voice sounds ‘strange.’ (Doesn’t diminish the Chinese vocalist’s beautiful voice.)

My favourite Dimash Diva dance is the one which starts with the Song 'Confessa'. It's a really great juxtaposition between the styles and range he can deliver. The juxtaposition HERE between Li and Dimash is very stark and yet still; strangely complementary. Li is absolutely revered in China as a Star at the highest level of performing within a very ancient form of Chinese Opera, where he has been trained from childhood, in the traditional form of male singers delivery of female roles. It is something that our 'Western' ears find hard to adjust to! Here we see the contrast between the Chinese operatic forms versus the Western [ Italian origin ] where, Yes; the vowel sounds are rounder - and to our ears - richer. Whereas to Chinese ears; Dimash's sounds are less fine, but they love him enormously in China as their 'little Kazakh Brother; 'Dimashi", and are thrilled that he has done them the courtesy of learning several of their much loved traditional songs in Mandarin. {# Both Governments rushed to appoint Dimash as the 'Kazakh- Chinese Cultural Ambassador' when his millions of Chinese Dears hit their nationwide social media platforms in RAGE when he was NOT crowned the Winner of the Chinese 'Singer' competition back in 2017. } But that's a whole other story. Which you will understand when you go to view his performances in that season. In fact that's probably the BEST place to start getting to know Dimash, and then track forward to see his artistic and career and development from there. Enjoy! 😆

Thank you! Your uncontrollable giggling between 2:10 - 2:15 made my day. For a viking, it was especially adorable. Dimash is my favorite vocalist and, as other commenters have probably already written, Dimash can go both higher and lower than he does in this song. But, even this isn't why he's so great. As you noted, even though Li YuGang reached the same high notes as Dimash in the Diva Dance (minus Dimash's whistle note...lol), you can clearly hear who's the world-renowned vocalist.

Love this performance!!! Drunken Concubine in dialogue the tragic story between a famous concubine of the Chinese imperial court, Li Yugang in that role, and the emperor, Dimash’s rol that’s why the throne at stage. At the end of the story the concubine is poisoned as a result of court intrigues. Li Yugang is a famous artist considered China’s National Treasure and he is a nan dan singer (male playing female roles) art forms from Peking Opera, giving the traditional art a modern edge. The way he moves (knees bent together and those "meows" have a special meaning in the traditional opera). What is most amazing about Li is that he couldn’t study in the university or conservatory of music, he is absolutely autodidact which is so admirable!! 👌👍💥 ❤️🎤🔝 One of the things a I love the most of Dimash is his versatility and his ability to show us different cultures through the music. In this case with Li Yugang, they have made a perfect match with the traditional Peking Opera style, beautiful 🌟

😂😂well you said it before I did! No point skipping the first section. It’s beautiful. Anyway. Li YuGang is a famous singer of classical Beijing opera where he sings female roles. He is also famous as a crossover to pop music. He actually composed this pop song based on the opera entitled “Noble Consort intoxicated on wine” (the translation of Drunken Concubine is not accurate). It portrays the despair of Yan GuiFei (for whom the emperor Tang XuanZong had created a special title elevating her above the other 3,000 concubines to a rank only next to the Empress) when she found out the Emperor had visited another one of his wives. This love story ends tragically when a rebellion occurs killing 5 million people, and the emperor has to flee the capital. His royal guards stop at a place named Ma WeiPo, and demand the death of Yang whom they blame for the chaos that has engulfed the once flourishing empire. In tears, the emperor sends Yang a folded length of white silk, with which she hangs herself. So this pop song is a modern version, and the beautiful lyrics seem to be sung by the spirits or ghosts of the emperor and Yang. He performed the first Diva Dance on his first solo concert in Kazakhstan called Bastau in 2017. It was after he finished The Singer competition in which he also performed The Diva Dance together with another awesome Italian song Confessa by the Italian singer Adriano Celentano. The Bastau version is short but much better. He was much more relaxed there because it was his concert and no competition. What fascinates me the most is, that he sang this song in his concert where he had already been on stage for almost 2 hours. Just unbelievabel🤯. He worked so hard for this terrific concert. I was scared at first when I saw him. He was so terribly thin. Drunken Concubine and it is from the Shanghai Spring Festival Gala in China. He sings with a great Chinese Opera singer who usually plays a female in classic Peking opera Li Yugang. That's why he's trained to sing so high. This nasal singing is traditional and he is a very famous singer in China. The two harmonize so well together. It’s really fantastic. You really have to see the whole performance. In the movie "The 5th Element" the blue alien lady sung the aria from Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, Il dolce suono. Dimash also sang it, but not in this video. There is a fancam video from 2016 where he sang a part of that aria before Diva Dance. He does not sing this aria in soprano, but in his tenor voice, I think. But it's so impressive.
