This is one of the reasons why I'm not really sad that Avi left Pentatonix. While I sometimes miss his voice on their arrangements, I can't feel bad because if he had this kind of song in his soul, singing bass for PTX just wouldn't be enough to satisfy him. This also goes back more to the kind of songs he was performing before PTX found him. I think he's a much happier soul now, and staying with PTX just wouldn't have worked out for anyone. While the song doesn't make me want to do battle, it does make me want to go out to my cabin in the woods and split some logs for the fire. Given that I'm city bred-and-born, don't have a cabin, and have never really used an axe in my life, that's saying something!

Yes, all voices, growls are Avi. He has a very nice 5+ octave range and he is also an overtone (able to sing two notes at once) singer, so in that regard he also has a whistle voice. Here is a video example of his overtone singing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g56se3ZsaruKj80

I was giddy when I saw this video was posted! I love your self-deprecating humor in the text comments. I love that you had to keep stopping. I love that you loved this song. As to whether there are more songs like this in his arsenal.....sort of. "Chains" and "I'm Only Getting Started" are two that have a similar vibe. Most of his music falls somewhere in the folk/Americana ballpark (although they all sort of combine more than one genre). Some songs have a bit of a country/blues/bluegrass vibe ("When I'm a Fool: Live at Sunset Sound", "The First Place I Go"). Some are haunting ("He Don't Love You Right" - lyric video only, "Full Moon" - the only official video is Live from You Tube Space which is fantastic, but the audio only one has A LOT of interweaving background harmonies). Some are almost completely in his higher register ("Quarter Past Four" or "Fields and Pier" as Avriel and the Sequoias). He does indeed have an amazing range and sounds very good harmonizing with himself. PRIMAL!

I could be wrong but it feels to me like this song was Avi’s transition from acapella to what he’s doing now, which includes instrumentals. That spot where you wondered if there were instruments, I do think we switched from his vocals to a bass on that one note that repeats-there’s a string quality to it (then again, Geoff can imitate a bass so well I sometimes can’t tell, so don’t cite me as the all knowing!). Anyway, from that point on we start hearing, very subtly, more instruments until the end when they’re clearly in play. As far as I know ALL the vocals are Avi. He does have quite a range. It’s written as Timbre, but the voice coach/reactors say TAMber, so I take it from them. Love that you noticed the shift in lighting at the end. We have all that fire, and then…peace. This song does make you want to rise up and fix stuff, doesn’t it? It should be iconic, along the same lines as We Are The Champions. Another great reaction!! Looking forward to more!

As much as I miss Avi singing with PTX, I'm so glad that he left because if he hadn't we wouldn't have his solo music which is so different from what he was doing. He is not a pop star and Christmas albums just were not the career he needed. His solo work, almost all of it written by him is everything I've ever needed and not realized it. Please react to more of Avi. ✌❤😎

Thanks again for reacting to Avi! Some more info, this was filmed at his cabin in Tennessee. Avi is very connected to nature and many of his videos and songs reflect this. His music is very eclectic but is in the folk/Americana category. His style is still evolving and he is experimenting with different things. For something completely different I suggest When I'm a Fool live from Sunset Sound. Also I know some people like to hear covers of songs, Avi has only recorded two covers Lean on me and OutKast's Hey Ya. He performs House of the rising sun live . So that my interest you as well

Avi has a very wide vocal range. He says that he only used about 10% of his voice when he was with PTX. You picked up the background effects - it was all Avi, other than organ and tambourine, so well spotted! As you listen to more of Avi's solo work (please!) you will see why he had to move on from PTX. This song is different from his others but they are all different from each other. His 'When I'm a Fool' live at Sunset Sounds will show you Avi in a very different light and 'Quarter Past Four' issued under the name Avriel and the Sequoias is completely different again. So much great music to discover! And all of us who are fans of Avi think of him as our friend - that's his special talent.

What a great reaction! Love your humor. 😆Interesting that you mentioned a Southern Blues feel, because Avi said in a recent livestream that he’s working on Southern Rock/Blues vibe music right now. 🔥 “I’m only Getting Started” is somewhat of a part 2 to this song that was released last year (I recommend the B&W official video). Another one with a primal feel is Get Down. That is my favorite song performed live, too. Also Chains has loads of bass. Avi’s music is not repetitive, so he crosses several genres. The ones mentioned above are the closest to the feel of Change on the Rise, IMO, but ALL of his music is phenomenal (lyrics, music & performance). Subbing for more Avi! 🔥

This song is so primal and I want to say Tribal. Peter Hollins and Avi did a song with so much layering of just the two voices that it's magical. Black Is The Color Of My True Loves Hair. Another must watch [layered] duet is Peter Hollins and Tim Foust [Home Free] singing Misty Mountains. Geoff Castellucci [voice play] is a bass singer who layers songs and has a great video of Ghost Riders In The Sky. Love to watch your reactions. I have some random recommendations if you aren't familiar with them: The Hu (mongolian metal - primal and powerful) and Bishop Briggs (female vocalist, very powerful, raw and emotional, considered alt or indie pop genre wise but I feel a little folk in her stuff personally). My favorite from The Hu is "Yuve Yuve Yu" and "Song of Women" ft. Lzzy Hale from Halestorm and my favorite from Bishop Briggs is "River" which I think is her biggest single commercially but everything she sings is wonderful.

Avi is incredible, and I absolutely love this song. That said -- every time I hear someone say "they're so raw", I can't help it that the comedian in me wants to reply with: Well, if you cook them a little longer, they won't be.

Good ear! Yes, Avi did all of the voices--including the "choir" and the super low notes. Those are all him; you are right! I'm impressed! Avi's solo work isn't, in general, a cappella, but this one almost is. There is some instrumental percussion and, in his own words, "a little bit" of organ. You can hear the organ especially at the bridge, when all the people lean in and light their torches. All of the above information is directly from Avi, in the chat he held right after premiering the video.

As always, fantastic reaction. You put me in a good mood every time! I let others give you suggestions because I like everything. I don't mind your pauses at all because they become aha moments for me too. I would miss those little nuances in the song if it were not for you pointing them out. That is one of many reasons I enjoy watching you. Your personality, wit and humor definitely another reason.

. If you are interested in hearing a bit of Avi's philosophy about his music take a listen to the interviews he and Shooter Jennings did at Sunset Sound Studios in LA. That album is a work of art. If you don't react to it you should really listen to it anyway. I'm so impressed with his talent.

Yes, Avi sings 7 layers in this song. You are the first I've seen to notice the One individual Deep repeating note in this song that he sings! If you Really want to hear Avi's vocal range, this is a song you must hear. No reaction needed, just enjoy! PTX "Light In The Hallway" kzbin.info/www/bejne/rp3Toax4f81_pMU

I don’t know if you got an answer regarding all the vocals in this, but yes, Avi did all the vocals. This isn’t a song, but check out “Wallace (Blade Runner 2049 Soundtrack)”. Avi is the bass vocalist you hear among the cacophony of different sounds. It’s more prominent early in the track, and a bit towards the end. He recorded his vocals on his cell phone.

I just did some searches, which on KZbin’s algorithm can be deceptive, but it looks like you haven’t yet reacted to anything by Jonathan Young, Peyton Parrish, nor have you, a Viking, for Pete’s sake, reacted to Valhalla Calling! Dude!!!! So many rabbit trails ahead for you!! I’m not that into metal, but these guys (Jonathan and Peyton) are so up your alley, and Valhalla Calling is a song you MUST hear (check out the version with @MiracleofSound-who you should also check out-and Peyton Parrish). I’m obviously there for more Avi and Voiceplay but I just wanted to let you know you have a lot of good stuff to react to.

I think Avi has a 4-5 octave range. These Acapella bass guys tend to have this talent. Geoff of VoicePlay and Tim of Homefree has a 5 octave range
