There are some who aren't aware that this song was released on the same day that PTX released "Come Along". I've always felt that that was an interesting move, as it really shows the contrast between what Avi would have been expected to do had he stayed and what he was able to do by being his own creative self. The contrast, both in music and visuals, is stark.

Good observation. I've felt that with Pentatonix strong pop focus in the past couple years, Matt only occasionally gets a chance to shine. Matt is a great singer, but a number of their recent songs seem to cast him as an extra.

Cements the thought I've had for years - Avi was what made PTX great. Once I learned he did a lot of the arrangement and when he started branching out from just the bass guy, you could see his talent level was head and shoulders above the rest

This was Avi's battle song. Avi said all sounds are him except for the use of an old organ which sounds a little like a choir...and of course the clapping. That gorgeous booming bass sound is all him...listen to when he sings the words 'We're going strong" the bass just hits you in the chest. Love your reaction to this.....another suggestion is Aberdeen with gorgeous cinematography.

I'm so glad you've discovered the magic of Solo Avi! This is who he really is - who he always really was, while trying to fit in with the Pentatonix vibe when he was in the group. This song apparently was written as he was battling with depression from the legal/copyright battles he was having with the Pentatonix management after leaving (he had a hand in writing some of their original songs.)

Hi - I just tried to just fill in blanks the others hadn't commented on yet. Avi left Pentatonix September 3, 2017. The next time he was heard from was when this music video "Change on the Rise" was released March 22, 2019. "Change On the Rise" is the theme music to a weekly Apple podcast Relative Unknown. "So thankful that Change on the Rise was featured in the new show Resident Alien on SYFY! Greetings to any and all life forms who have found my music from the show 👽 ✌️"m #ResidentAlien " Avi Kaplan Feb 12,2021 sampled on SO1 E03 @ 40:30 then 43:31 to the end. Reaction to Change on the Rise "Twins the New Trend" kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHi8XmVshrCjoqM And "Chains" (another Avi original song) was used on the TV program The Blacklist in March. A big question was how would he manage to adapt "Change On the Rise" to do live here is what he did. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gn-6hGCArb1omdE When he put his E.P. out in 2020 he took a similar honest approach as he had done when he announced with the rest of Pentatonix sitting beside him that he was leaving and released this explanation. Avi ep trailer where have I been the last 3 years kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJTLiGiAbdaKbZY One thing that bothered him was that people never got to hear the full range of his voice in Pentatonix. He has quite a wide vocal range. He uses it now. Most notable in "The Summit" he does all the voices again. No video just a picture. "Born in California" is my favorite but it doesn't have a video. There is a pretty cool acoustic version with him laying on his bed done during quarantine on his KZbin channel. His A Cappella Academy (that he does with Ben Bram and Rob Dietz) for students 13-18 from around the world has kept going virtually during Covid. Auditions for summer 2022 open November 1st. The 3 founders review and make the final acceptance decisions. They are very hands on. kzbin.info/www/bejne/imXJkIJ9m9GeqJY He also works with the University of Tennessee and secondary school choirs. In June of this year he was made an ambassador to the Sequoias and Kings Canyon National Parks. myemail.constantcontact.com/Sequoia-Parks-Conservancy-Compass-Newsletter-June-2021.html?soid=1131296501545&aid=LgBV2__NfKE&fbclid=IwAR1XC3L4JN4MEdAED8YXWh1--V4Gghe91m39HLq7fEMsUNpI9OstL2n2u24 So he put out this appeal about the fires just recently. instagram.com/p/CUDZuz7Fg3j/? He also performed at the Americana Fest in Nashville live for the first time in a year and a half and threw in another new song to go with the others he has introduced this year. First thing, your link to the original video is broken, it goes to a WIRED video with Ryan Reynolds. I think that the folk style compliments him well, he brings as much power as a metal guitar solo, he doesn't need the instruments to bring it. I think it would be too much and it would get in the way of the message he was trying to convey. I think you will enjoy "I'll Get By" just as much as Other side. While they are different, both songs are sort of a journey. I'll Get By is amazing, I think it's the one song that sort of summed up his solo music, to me anyway. It and Change on the Rise are polar opposite but equally awesome.

That will learn you to listen to the fans... I mean probably not, because your human and allowed but still you should listen to us. If you want to listen to a really interesting singing style, listen to Jerusalem by Anuna, a Celtic choral group. This song is sung A capella by all the girls in the group in a singing style called hitropheny (spelling?), and the translation is not singing together. Every girl is on a different word and a different note the entire song. They will only perform this song in cathedrals or places with great acoustics, and they all walk during the majority of the song. It's really amazing.
