I'm also suspect of older mowers that look to clean some people keep their mowers up well but others clean up mowers to flip them, also any seller that doesn't want you to do an in depth check of the unit is a deal breaker. Great video

That was genuinely some great and very well presented tips on buying a used mower. I expected a ton of comments. You deserve more attention for this, me thinks. Thank you so much for taking the time to share. Regards David

Excellent video! Find myself in need of a riding mower for the first time in my 67 years. We inherited a house on 1 1/2 acres and am looking to buy a good used mower. Wish me luck! I will make a checklist from this video for checking out prospective mowers. Thanks so much!

Great video mate. It was a you tube recommended and it was literally one day after I bought a shiny market place riding mower for $2000. The one check I didn’t do was to engage the the cutter deck with the engine running, if I had, I would have heard and felt the vibrations from a stuffed spindle bearing. Smh

Thanks, wanted to let you know I am still finding your video very helpful even at this time. I am arming myself with this information before visiting for a used lawn mower sale today I found via fb marketplace.

3:19 If seller changed oil recently to cover up oil never changed, run engine until hot and check oil again. If it's noticeably darker then there was sludge in the bottom of the crankcase, indicating oil not changed regularly.
@Fred-gv3kh Жыл бұрын
I guess that would apply to a seller who added lots of new oil (because it was very low) without "changing" the old oil also, right?? (Not only sludge, but extra wear if the oil was allowed to get that low in the first place).

Good video. Off to Lowes I go, lol. $2K for a 10-year mower seems like a better deal than inheriting problems 😂

🤣LOL. Hmmm... I wonder. Facing the same question, but I'm still leaning towards used if I can find a good one. I guess you bought something since your comment was 9 months ago, but if you ever buy another new one, make sure to research the models thoroughly!! Apparently some new mowers now are pieces of crap built in China, etc.

Thank you for this outstanding video. I'm definitely a detail person, and you crammed a lot of useful information into that 14 minutes!! Looking to buy my first riding mower after buying a house out in the country (Western NC)... I appreciate the info. Not sure how you broke your foot, but hope it healed up well!! Regards, Fred Z

Seat is high dallor now so if you buy a new one make sure it will work on other mowers And switch it out when you trade or sale

Watched this and looked at used mower today. Focused on list and walked away. Seller said, "What ya expect for $250?"
@steferfootballdude132 жыл бұрын
I have a 250 mower I'm thinking about. Lower price gives you some flexibility with repairs but parts are still pricy

Good for you! Better to walk away if your gut says so. I've gotten 4 free lawn tractors so far and one only needed a bit of TLC and a new battery. I actually drove one of the others off my van.

About to look at a Husqvarna YTH2548, which is I think year 2006-2008 for $500. The seat has a crack, deck is quite rusty, but tires in photo look ok so far and seller says it runs like it should. I'm going to carefully go over everything you mentioned remembering to bring a spark plug socket. Hoping this old beast has an hour counter too as this brand says 600-800 hours is where engine is considered old. Any thoughts on a riding mower that is almost 20 years old with rusty deck and some rust on body before I look at it? I couldn't seem to find any info on this model so as to get any clues on it's worth. Thanks for the informative video!
