Took me a few listens to appreciate it but on the first listen I loved the bit that happens at around 3:40 to the end. I don’t really look for diverse tracks I just loved the harmony. A tier track for me

But, yeah you gotta get through a couple of minutes of more chugging and clubbing of pretty ordinary sounding riffs to arrive at the highlighted harmonies. And really , there was too much of the same thing throughout the album in terms of chugging midpaced riffs and almost identical wahwah soloing. Id have absolutly loved it, if the first half of Room of Mirrors had more fast paced shredding power chords, and bring those awesome harmonies to the forefront. Centre the song around razor shredded riffs and melodic harmonies. That, would have set it apart , given it more identity. I like the album overall, but Room of Mirror's welcomed harmonies really make me realise how much other songs could/should have had those aswell.👍

I gotta be honest here Chainsaw, I only watch your Metallica stuff. I’ve never watched anything else you’ve posted besides the Hardwired reactions and now the 72 Seasons reactions. And I gotta say I love your Metallica content, and metal content in general. I think this is an avenue you could tap into. My opinion rankings, now that I've listened to the record over 20 times, would be: 72 Seasons A Shadows Follow B Screaming Suicide A Sleepwalk My Life Away B You Must Burn B Lux Eterna A Crown of Barbed Wire B Chasing Light B If Darkness Had a Son A Too Far Gone? S Room of Mirrors B Inamorata S this was the song listening to the record immediately I was like OMG...it's the best. I guess overall the record is really good. Better than Hardwired...I think haha. We'll see. I think Too Far Gone? Is more Kill em all than Lux but I get you. It's all good.

Would honestly love a continuation of the album tier lists when you can. I find your analysis on each songs considerate and well thought out. A lot more then just “A reaction channel” you’ve got a really good way of putting your point across. Glad you’re enjoying the album just like me. Your tierlist is basically mine just with a few tweaks. I think if darkness had a son is a condenser for a just because I found myself listening to it the most out of the singles. Lux I would put to B but I am happy it was the first single. Short and sweet but besides that my opinions are the same as yours. Hope you’re doing well chainsaw and glad you’re enjoying the album just as me. Been a fan since 2019 just not much of a commenter but love your Metallica content the most because you’re a true fan. One that just appreciates the band and can criticise when they need to.

Sometimes it definitely takes a few listens to really appreciate and love a song. I went to the album theater premiere and a few songs like Shadows Follow and Too Far Gone? didn't hit at all the first time. But after listening to the album extensively the next few days I was able to rock with them! S tier: Inamorata, Room of Mirrors, 72 Seasons, You Must Burn!, Crown of Barbed Wire, Chasing Light A tier: Lux, Screaming Suicide, Darkness, Shadows Follow B tier: Too Far Gone?, Sleepwalk My Life Away Honestly this is a 9/10 album for me! 6 songs made my S tier and I'm so happy they delivered for my liking! Definitely better than Hardwired however no song here is better than Spit Out the Bone haha. Maybe Inamorata...but in a different way since they sound nothing alike.

Premise: the B Tier songs on my list are still VERY good songs, only for my taste a little weaker than the others (music wise, lyrics wise the album is a blast). Also, listening to a new Metallica album without (again for me) songs below B rating is honestly amazing. B tier: Crown of... - If darkness... For me, Inamorata is the best song on the album. Yes, it is not speed and thrash that gets everyone juiced up, but what it is, is a superb example in composition and a raw reflection in motion. Hetfield's emotions and touch on this song just cuts like knife, the authenticity drips from this track. And the final guitar solo on the album from Hetfield, it speaks for itself. I do believe that this song was probably written sooner than some of the others, and I think that Lars and the other guys purposely wanted this song to be the closer, recognizing to save the best for last. For me, being an 11-minute song, it feels like a well-crafted journey that is not that long. Personally, I wish it was longer, because it feels half as long as what it is, it invokes an emotion on a ride that you don't want to end. And THAT is a credit to superb composition. How much of that arrangement is credit to James, and how much is credit to Lars, I don't know. But it is very obvious that the inspiration is all James. While it does invoke a bit of the Fixxxer feel, it really has more of that darker drudging vibe from Outlaw Torn, with some touches like My Friend of Misery, Unforgiven III, To Live is to Die, etc. What adds something different to Inamorata is that while it pulls from these previous songs, the vocal moments towards the end you can hear Hetfield's voice cracking and genuinely wavering in delivery, selling it as truly authentic and not pandering to anyone but his own reflection. Being credible moves mountains, and Hetfield's closing solo mimmicks the chills in the same keys that his previous vocal lines ran up to before it. Again, great composition. Overall, I rank the whole album as slightly higher than Hardwired and DM. Slightly. The reason I say that, is because the introspective theme of 72 Seasons flows better song-to-song than the arrangements of DM and HW. I'm not saying DM was bad, it was very good, and songs 1-6 and 12 on Hardwired were good, but 72 Seasons brings a more focused theme to it like the RTL, MOP and AJFA albums had, where you had those thematical consistencies with the albums. And here's the rub, where Lux Aeterna shines as a great thrashy throwback song, it actually breaks stride a little bit from the darker themes of the other songs. So there's a paradox there, but I can't knock it because it is a good song. Overall compared to other bands, this album gets an "A." Compared to other Metallica albums, this album gets a "B," which is good.

I agree it took a few listens of the album before songs started to grow and click for me. You Must Burn! and Crown of Barbed Wire initially didn't grab me until a few listens later and they're some of my favorite tracks off the album. They have very strong Load/Reload elements that I instantly picked up. In fact, someone uploaded E-Flat tuning versions of those songs, and they're even better and HEAVIER imo. They sound like they could've been lost tracks off of Load.

I respect everyone's opinion... There's really no wrong view on this album. Here's my ranking of the 12 songs. 1. Lux Aeterna (the raw thrash-riff just hits me differently), 2. Sleepwalk My Life Away (the bass intro was perfect and the riff remains catchy throughout the whole song), 3. Inamorata (the first half of the song gets a bit boring, but the bass break and the second half make up for it), 4. Room of Mirrors (the opening riff is super heavy and the short chorus riff is even heavier), 5. Chasing Light (the fast main riff rocks, however the drums feel off after the intro), 6. You Must Burn! (heaviest song on the album, but maybe it lacks variety because of it), 7. 72 Seasons (good season opener, but I personally felt like it lacked something), 8. Too Far Gone? (nice fast flowing melody, but too much of the same before the bridge), 9. Shadows Follow (the riff is alright, but I don't like the riff as much as many of the others) 10. Screaming Suicide (the song didn't really click and it's too much of the same), 11. If Darkness Had a Son (I thought this was gonna be my favourite, but after listening to it multiple times, I came to the conclusion that it lacks variety), 12. Crown of Barbed Wire (I think this song is a complete mess and the riff seems too much like something that Nirvana would've come up with).

- S tier (9/10 and above, love it, borderline obsessed with, feel like putting it on repeat) : Inamorata - A tier (8/10, enjoy it, puts a smile on my face, gives me energy/feel like headbanging) : Shadows Follow, Too Far Gone?, Room of Mirrors - B tier (7/10, don't mind it, pleasant background noise, but pretty indifferent) : You Must Burn!, Crown of Barbed Wire, 72 Seasons, Screaming Suicide, Lux AEterna - C tier (6/10, identified one element or more that feel unpleasant when I listen to it): Chasing Light, If Darkness Had A Son, Sleepwalk My Life Away - D tier (5/10 or below, would skip) : none For reference, my favorite albums are Reload & AJFA. A 10/10 i.e., the best thing I heard in my life would be The Outlaw Torn. I find that an album review is more relevant when the reviewer and the viewer have a similar albums tier list. For example, the first review I found on 72S was a guy saying Inamorata was totally overrated and not worth it. That only made sense to me when he mentioned that Reload was one of his least favorite album. The thing I would find bizarre was if someone loved My Friend of Misery, The Outlaw Torn & Fixxxer and disliked Inamorata because they feel like sister songs to me.

my rankings S-Tier 1. Chasing Light (the lyrics are OK, but the song is anchored by an all time great riff. and that chorus is the shit) 2. Crown of Barbed Wire (just a filthy groove and james sings his ass off on this song) 3. Too Far Gone (the main riff is a bit of a recycler, but the song is still really fucking good.) ----------------------------- A-Tier 4. If Darkness Had A Son (killer riff. great chorus. the repetition doesnt bother me) 5. Shadows Follow (this song is a vibe. a little too much of the E chugging, but the batman riff was a nice touch) 6. Lux AEterna (catchy as hell, oozes Kill"emAll vibes. This should have been the album opener.) 7. Screaming Suicide (this song is so much better in the context of the album. pre chorus is super catchy) 8. Room of Mirrors (like inamorata, the meat of this song is at the end) ------------------------------- B-Tier 9. Inamorata (the first half of the song is kind of boring honestly) 10. 72 Seasons (sounds too much like Spit/Moth hybrid but without any of the great hooks) ------------------------------ C-Tier 11. I think it's pretty cool that my S tier songs are on your S Tier buddy. You Must Burn, Too Far Gone, Inamorata, and I would even go as far as including 72 Seasons on my S Tier list.

You're not the only one I've seen who ranks "If Darkness had a son" on the lower end. I love the beginning, the riff is simple but "crunchy" Not a fan of "Room of Mirrors" But "You must burn" and "Inamorata" are clearly my fav songs!

I like hearing other people's lists it's quite interesting as you said how different songs will hit differently with people. Mine would likely be as follows at the moment: S - Shadows Follow, Screaming Suicide, Too Far Gone, Chasing Light, Room of Mirrors, Inamorata A - 72 Seasons, Crown of Barbed Wire, You Must Burn B - Lux Aeterna C - Sleepwalk My Life Away, If Darkness Had A Son Screaming Suicide was my favourite of the singles so for me deserves an S, Lux is a good song but over time it maybe hasn't grabbed me like the others. Sleepwalk I feel is a fairly weak track with not enough going on in my opinion, same as Darkness. But I'd say they're the only 2, rest of the album is great and I'm really digging it!

Album is a 7/10 for me. I had high expectations based off those first couple singles and the title track and I was a bit let down. It’s fine, but it could’ve been better (and a lot shorter too!)
