It hits home for Kirk because the night of Cliff's death both of them were arguing about who got a particular bunk bed. So they drew cards and Cliff drew an ace of spades. He then told Kirk he wanted his bunk to which he agreed. Unfortunately, that was the bed which was next to the window that would see Cliff get thrown out of as the bus swerved and toppled over, pinning him down. Kirk knows that if he had slept in his original bunk bed it would have been him that died. Its hard to imagine having to live with that for the rest of your life.

My thoughts on the 4: You can tell Rob is trying to be as respectful as he can be, and his story was a nice little uplifting part of this. James doesn't want to delve into his feelings too much. He's likely one of the people who grew up with the whole "emotions are stupid" environments like many people his age have. But he feels for the loss of cliff. Kirk gets super emotional due to all the traumatic memories surronding Cliff's death, and rightly so. He had the most direct trauma related to this event. I can tell that Lars is emotional about this despite hiding it very well, as well as distracting himself well by talking about Ray.

As a fan of Metallica from age 17 and now almost 21 cliff had the most impact in the band for me and knowing his personality isn’t there anymore breaks my heart I get kirk getting teary eyed his spirit will live on inside of Metallica forever he was surely one of a kind and this whole band is truest special god bless

Can't imagine losing a band member like that. RIP Cliff. He lives as long as we blast his music.

Cliff's death hits me harder now that I'm older than he ever got to be and realize how young and in his prime he was. Poor Kirk must think about switching bunks with him on the fateful night every day :(

2 thumbs up to that video. I play the bass because of cliff burton.....glad to see a video of the band talking about him and his father. his father sounds like a great man. I say thank you to cliff and metallica for inspiring me.

Imagine losing such a friend/brother 35 years ago. It must be so weird trying to think of him and feeling what you feel and wondering if you should feel another way. He can never leave you but yet you've had to move forward without him. Kinda heartbreaking, man. R.I.P Cliff. Long live Metallica! 🤘🏻

This humanizes Metallica in a way that Monster sort of failed to. Looks like an interesting release.

We should thank so hard these guys, they kept on going, they didn't gave up, even thought they lost the sweetest guy in the band, they did tons of majestic songs for us, for Cliff.

I never realized the connection before: that both Cliff Burton and Robert Trujillo worked with Mike Bordin (drummer, Faith No More) before joining Metallica.

I can relate to Kirk’s tears here. You never get over the loss of someone you were close to and loved. Never! Time doesn’t heal everything.
