What I love about this is contemplating that Lars was a self taught drummer, relatively new to drumming and had the creativity as a beginner to create these parts. People just love to shit on Lars because he basically aged poorly and didn't keep up practicing the craft as many other artists do - but he's been a lot better recently. Right. I honestly don't get people preferring MOP over AJFA. Sure it was great, but Metallica were on the road to invention through the first three albums. It wasn't like the bands that put all their life greatest stuff into their freshman album and then never match it(GnR, Zakk with Ozzy). Metallica was growing, and they peaked on AJFA before developing a new strategy, commercial success, and working on that before until they kinda jumped the shark(for me). AJFA is just pure tits.
@Aurelian572 жыл бұрын
@@John-mh9ty 100% agree. I love the previous 3 albums, but I feel they really "harnessed" their studio sound in AJFA. The drumming is by far my favorite across all albums as the snares, bass drum, and cymbals are perfect for me. Brutal from start to finish and just gets the blood flowing. Starts fast with Blackened and ends fast/brutal with Dyers Eve. Fantastic!

Even my own kid overplays doing 200+ bpm heel toe tricks but can't pull off this song right because it's not appealing enough to memorize and it drives me crazy. So much good drumming on this album, and it's stuff most teens SHOULD be able to play, though maybe not give justice to, cough. ... and you didn't run a million triggers or even go fully mic'd, as a pro. Good enough to send the message, roll tape. Love it.

I like that you played every second bar of the thrash beat parts (1:57 - 2:14) with just one foot (as it should be). One foot sound much better and much more dynamic.
@LuGer212 Жыл бұрын
I am so glad so see somebody feeling the same about how to play the quick double stroke kick-bass beats. yes, YES, that is how you're supposed to play them - there's always going to be some difference from one to the other, but that's what makes them great. and yes there are also the quick 'triplet-y' ones where a second foot is and has to be used. but to play the double stroke ones with one foot: *this is the way*
