Damn they were really on to something in the 90's. Everybody was trashing load and reload. Some of their best work imo. Don't get me wrong, I grew up on puppets (my favorite album) and justice, but black through reload were pure inspiration through my late teens. Truly artistic magnificence.
@shamicentertainment12626 жыл бұрын
I do agree. But in my opinion there were a fair amount of songs that were just okay. Load and reload would have been more powerful if they took the best songs and put it into one album, then released the rest as B sides.

I've grown up with metallica. As I've got older I've gained an even deeper appreciation of hetfield's talent, presence and passion. He is an absolute monster. Perhaps one of the greatest frontmen of all time. It's a privilege to be alive with this band still here. Their music is a part of me.

Rag eN You are right. This is James who has since spoken of this era as being the height of his addiction. He had tried to get sober many times on his own and failed. Load and Reload are albums that chronicle this in a variety of ways, but Bleeding Me and Outlaw Torn are two songs that represent it quite literally. James said that he would play sing song and sometimes cry because he was in such distress and the other guys didn’t even know it. This song is his actual hope that he can get past his demons and live a happy life. When he says “You can’t stop it” at the end, he’s being 100% real. In everything you watch before rehab, he is a scared kid in a grown man’s body. It’ll change the way you watch and hear everything. If you understand addiction you can see all of this quite clearly.

Shane McRedmond I love the LOAD album. I hated it back in the day, but right now probably is my favourite album. Got it in CD and vinyl, I saw them in the Oh Poor Touring Me World Tour '96, and the Cunning Stunts VHS is lost somewhere in my room. So yes, I'm fine with Load too!
@FlyBear20028 жыл бұрын
They hate load simply because they are used to compare every new release to the first 4 albums. Load is not as heavy as Master of Puppets for example. I wouldn't even consider it "metal". Maybe something like hard rock. BUT: It's still a fu**ing great album! Great lyrics and guitars.
@ankit14007 жыл бұрын
Thewise one I respectfully disagree. Case in point being this song - a 9 minute meandering (yet very soulful) number - hardly cookie cutter. The deal with these guys, and especially James is that they truly don't care if you or I like it or not(certainly used to). James was channeling a raw, exposed nerve here, and just because it wasn't in the puppets or justice mould doesn't make it any less heavier - but in a different. Honestly don't think they sold out, just decided to tread a different path. Those band photos on the Load CD though...
@evilepisodespodcast7 жыл бұрын
Oh no, they definitely sold out to make a more commercial friendly sound in order to attract mass appeal, however at the same time it doesn't mean it is bad music. Just different. Whether you are a fan of Load/Reload and the albums since, it is hard to deny there is a stark contrast in style. This wasn't made to "explore different musical tastes" it was a strategy by their producer to make them a bigger band. It's not an opinion it just is, but like I said it doesn't mean that all the songs are bad. Contrast this with a band like Slayer who has largely maintained being a Thrash metal band despite their more recent albums not being as furious and unrelenting as their classics, but the style itself largely remained the same.

Load is by greatly one tragically misunderstood album. Yes, it does not sound like the big Metallica 5, but that comparison is completely unfair. Load was the product of a significant opening to the creativity of Jason and Kirk that hadn't happen before (at last not to this degree). With load, James and Lars explored different stylistic and song writing elements, which lead to a very dramatic change to their sound. I think this album had great gems, like bleeding me, Mama said, The outlaw torn and more, which sadly may had being drowned by the noise of the disappointment that many felt in light of such transformation.

That "I AM BLEEDING MEE" at 6:00 is one of the most fucking powerful things I've ever heard. Holy shit.

Jason was just absolutely ridiculous. While I wish I had gotten to see Cliff, I am so glad I got to see Jason. Metallica is so many stories, one of which, is the story of their bass players. Their bass players have elevated them in every season. Had they not found the right guy, they would not have survived at every step.

Super under-rated song!! If an up and coming band had made a song like this, it would be a major hit. One of my favorite songs by Metallica of all time. People expect heavy when they hear the word Metallica, but why can't a song like this be appreciated as a single work of art? Amazing performance and a great song!

6:37 One of the handful of solos from Kirk where wah is most definitely needed - the expression on some of those bends with the wah sound awesome.
@gore21best6 жыл бұрын
The whole band is on point here, even tho we would later find out there was some internal issues going on at the time, you wouldn’t know it judging by this performance. Amazing! James switching between clean and screing vocals, kirks solo, jason bringing energy as always, and lars stilll had it here.

What? Nobody dissing Lars drumming? WTF? Because that's was cool people do. They say what they've heard a bunch of other people say. Because it makes them look smart. And cool.
@trevscribbles8 жыл бұрын
It doesn't take a genius to see that Lars is a terrible drummer. Cool or not, it's simple fact. The drummer shouldn't be trying to follow the rhythm guitar.
@mindpurge22708 жыл бұрын
Kinda funny, you know... how a bunch of nobody's say Lars sucks... however a lot of somebody's (many real musicians) commend Lars, because not a conventional drummer, his fills and cymbal crashes are half to a full beat off, but done purposely like that. I can see how someone that doesn't feel that style would think he fucked up, it's just the way he plays, and real musicians understand that. No, he's not technical, he's not a mathematician drummer, which is the way most nobody's view drumming skill.

Edgar Marcus That's a common technique. Rob plays with fingers as well. And tons of other bassists. Actually the only bass player who I know for sure plays with a pick is Tom Araya
