22. As you were telling that anecdote about God telling you "I'm gonna use those" it reminded me of how we became friends because in the black Dahlia murder Asylum video you opened up about your self harm and battles with depression, which inspired me to call in and share my battles. A conversation that changed my life and gained me 2 wonderful friends, and then I found the Core and made more friends. And my circle became much bigger, and much less lonely. I could so relate to what you were saying. I too have had a lifelong battle with depression and extremely low self esteem. I have also had issues with alcohol, which I continue to have an off/on relationship with. But I have many self induced scars, some deep from pretty serious wounds. I'm aware of my capacity for self injury. However, the good news is I've spent the past year of my life going through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (very similar to the Dialectical B.T. that Vin has talked about). I haven't cut now for longer than a year. Finding out I was autistic, and receiving a diagnosis literally changed my life. Gaining that HUGE piece of self awareness, and being able to tall through some of the abuse issues I've had, and being able to let my self off the hook for things that were never my fault to begin with. I dont know if this will help anyone, as not everyone can find this out about themselves and change their life to be more autistic conducive so to speak. But I hope at the very least, whoever reads this, whatever they are going through, and whatever scars you have, be them physical or emotional. You are not alone. And the village is one of the most loving communities to be part of. Much love village (and sorry for the long message, it's just how I am, what can I do lol 🤷♂️)

22.I've been dealing with acute stress and delayed onset PTSD from being a correctional officer. Lots of self abuse and slowly killing my relationship with family and friends. My love for music....especially being a fan of Metallica since '86 kept creeping back. I got better with exercise, friends, family and a great psychologist. Unfortunately the damage of the years was already done. I had a massive heart attack on June.19/19. Open heart surgery for 6 bypasses on the 25th. Music and the above again pulled my through this brutal situation. I was discharged on July.02/19 and have been recovering since then......talk about ups and downs and being broken...beat and literally scared for life. I finally returned to work and the pandemic kicked in. Even though my life has been scarred and now my immune system is weak.....I will survive this. I'm lucky that I'm 43.....but also lucky there are channels like this to watch and enjoy. Thanks! 22

Surviving hardships and trauma can increase a person's emotional resilience and inner mental health resources. Trauma is also incredibly damaging to a person and is probably more likely to leave them dysfunctional and in a great deal of inner pain. It comes down to the help they receive and how they process that trauma. I have worked in mental health care for over 25 years, and trauma-informed care is a crucial part of the treatment process. It's also important to remember that another person's trauma does not negate or lessen your own. You are going through what *you* are going through. It's not a competition. As Sori said, "It's important for people not be ashamed of the things that they went through." Vin, I am glad you got through your bad times! God bless you both for your compassion and understanding.

22 That was a song that stopped me in my tracks and made me look at myself. If I'd stayed on the self destructive path there's no doubt I wouldn't be here now. Been through drug and alcohol issues, suffered with mental health and a continual battle with depression. It's not just the physical scars but more the mental scarring that people don't see but judge you for. I don't find it easy to reach out to people when I really need it but my family have been pivotal in helping me along with therapy. There's been times when I didn't want to dig deep anymore but I realise I have to as I've got a lot of things I want to accomplish with the rest of my life and my being here is important to other people. 22

Vin, i can definitely relate to you when it comes to having physical scars and the emotional scars that can come along with them. I was born with hydrocephalus, which is a birth defect that causes excessive cerebrospinal fluid to accumulate in brain cavities. It's a disorder that can cause things like learning disabilities, impaired speech, memory problems, coordination problems, and even epilepsy. At the time that i was born (1977) there was still very little hope that people with my condition would be able to live a normal life. Fortunately for me, i had God on my side and had a shunt put in my head to drain the fluid out of my body. While the prognosis was very dire at the time, i am happy to say that today at the age of 42, i have lived a very normal life and besides seeing the physical scars, people on the outside wouldn't even be able to tell that i have been living with this condition. The physical scars on my head, chest, and stomach are a constant reminder of God's grace, mercy, and love. It also reminds me that God still has a plan for me and is going to continue to see me through it. People used to pick on me about my scars, but i've always seen them as badges of honor and a reminder of God's grace and mercy.

He had me on the handlebars of his bike as we were going up the road, I got the bright idea to jump off the handlebars (because they were hurting my backside.) I jumped onto a blacktop gravel road. I landed on all fours; my hands (and forearms) and my right foot and my left knee.. I had blood running all the way down my left leg, my stepbrother told me to get back on the handlebars; I'm like "No, it hurts my @$$." He told me, "I'm taking you home." So, I got back on the handlebars, he took me home and I got it all cleaned up and got the whole third degree from my stepmom about it.. 🙄🙄

This is, BY FAR, the best Metallica that I've heard in many years! You can really hear Rick Rubin's influence throughout this album and you can hear some Slayer-esque riffs here and there as well, which is never a bad thing. Listen to "All Nightmare Long" and you'll see what I mean.
@jamesgarrett46534 жыл бұрын
LoneWolf Survival that’s kind of funny you say that because If you watch on Metallica’s channel the making of this album, Rick Rubin was never around and had almost 0 input lol but I certainly do enjoy this album very much. Very underrated unfortunately, people still had to bad of a taste in their mouths from St. Anger and couldn’t let go of their own bias when this came out.
@lonewolfsurvival34534 жыл бұрын
@@jamesgarrett4653 , yeah I heard Rubin was kind of a prick and wasn't around much, but I can sure hear a lot of familiar sounds that I've never heard from Metallica before, which is weird. Unless the band wasn't being completely honest about Rubin's level of involvement? Regardless, I can definitely hear his spin on that album. I think it's their heaviest album, since their Puppets album for sure.

That which does not kill you softens you up for the big one. Or, I'm quite cynical. Okay, down to brass tacks: 1 Corinthians 10:13 is where that "God won't give you more than you can handle" comes from, but the cotext is important. It is directly about facing temptations, not about facing the horrors of human existence in a fallen world. Scars... well, I'm pretty well covered in scars. Treated my body like a rental in my younger days. (He says, knowing his biggest "scar" is the nerve damage he got playing rugby at 35) The one thing I've learned about scars is that they are evidence that you can survive the pain, and that gives you confidence to face it again. My favorite scar is one that my beard covers. Was playing park football with my friends and some guys who were on a team. This was when we were college age. We were getting beaten down. Just outclassed in every way. I tackled a guy, and took a cleat through the skin under my lower lip. You could see my teeth through it. Kept playing, blood coating my shirt. I think i inspired my guys to give it their all, and bruised and bloodied, we were able to shake hands with our heads high afterwards. (Then my wife forbid me ever going back... but for half an hour i felt manly)

Vin, you are correct to not lie that phrase because that is not what Nietzsche wrote. What he actually wrote was "out of life's school of war, what does not kill me makes me stronger". People take the second clause and swap words out and wind up twisting what Nietzsche was actually saying. What he was doing was telling others how he dealt with adversity from particular, not all, sources.
