Joy jordison interview : “A lot of people give this guy shit, but they need to shut their fucking mouths because Lars Ulrich is probably one of the best and most innovative drummers ever. I got to tour with the guy and I watched him play every night from behind the kit, and his double bass was completely on point. He’s also one of the best businessmen that keeps this type of music going; he’s the heart of the whole fucking community, because Metallica are the kings. There’ll never be anybody that will match them, and Lars is a huge, huge part of that. Without that guy, and the influence of that band, I wouldn’t even be sitting here talking to you. Lars is one of my gods and he always will be. That guy fucking rules, period. So when I got the call asking if I’d fill in for him at Download Festival, of course I knew everything because he’s one of my hugest influences. I remember playing to his shit all the time growing up and trying to be as good as him. Our technical abilities are way different but I’ll still never be as good as that guy, and getting to sit in his stool was one of the biggest fucking dreams come true. What an honour. @@Averseinsomniac lol, NO... Lars USED to. Now he's the Tony Danza of drumming 😂😂 all show no go. He has a huge roll in their success for sure, but drumming ain't one of them no mo. Not even close. He huffs and puffs like he's done something and didn't do shit. Skips most the double kicks in concert and acts like his sticks weigh 50 lbs each now. Sorry homie, still love him but he over acts and these guys crushed his tracks on the whim. Standing up leaning forward and walking around a kit hitting cymbals may be amusing, but doesn't replace talent and effort. He got old, it happens! Hard job playing all those live shows all these years as they do, so I get it! But tell me you're not a drummer without telling me you're not a drummer...

You can hear Lombardo sometimes doesn't know the next bit but quickly switches to the correct tempo/rhythm. I wish he was Metallicas drummer and Lars took a backseat from now on, he is a monster(and not in Slayer anymore anyway).
@russkate887 жыл бұрын
I feel now that he should replace Lars and Lars should just manage the band as he doesn't seem to have the passion to play drums he once had. He should also use his own kit as Lars has a terrible set up. Or even get Paul Bostaph or Vinnie Paul to replace Lars as I feel they would elevate the band again.

KZbin Lars performances of Battery from 1986 and he played it extremely fast, and with all the double bass parts in it. Even better than what Lombardo did here. Not that I'm discrediting his performance because he did a great job, but it was Lars' song, so he obviously knew it inside out and it showed during the live performances. Especially when Newstead first joined and they were still messed up over Cliff's death. So all those emotions came out through their music, and they just played everything faster, but even though they played faster, Lars still did all the double bass parts.

They are genuinely having fun here! Playing the same songs night after night, month after month, year after year, each song the same way, with the same people - you can end up disengaged with the music. Having some part of that formula radically altered suddenly forces you to fully engage with it again. This is why the "unplugged" thing became popular back in the 90's, and why this is such a great set. Is it "perfect?" No, and it shouldn't be. Live music should be fresh and exciting.
