Arguably the late 90's were a rough period for the band with James in the depths of addiction and having not recovered his voice from blowing out his vocal chords in 1992. After 2008 is the best they have sounded in years with a sober James and him taking care of his voice again.

It's strange to see "not recovered his voice from blowing out his vocal chords" and then listen to S&M when James sings like a god from the same era. James singing was unhealthy and he recovered if anything in the 90s.

@@ImDembe Then blame the addictions, either way he tried to sing in a high register like the 80's and was off key and had his voice crack regularly trying to sing their older songs in that era. The videos are there to show it and my point that this was not the best era for James stands.

@@infinittrob9409 His style was unhealthy not only vocally but lifestyle and Metallica was THE heaviest touring band in the early 90s. James can probably sing like he used to but it will go downhill very fast, i like how he sings nowdays, a touring Hetfield is better than no Hetfield.

@@ImDembe nah James’ voice was hitting its post black album peak in 99, culminating in s&m. He had to completely change his style though, which is why it sounds so different. Performances in 96 show he could still use his old voice.

Now some songs from their S&M 1999 show next. No leaf clover is a must react on the list but other songs from the same show, like Fuel, Outlaw torn, and Bleeding me are definitely recommended.

If you want to really see how Metallica is a unique band and how they embrace different ideas, you should check their S&M concerts (they play with a live orquestra), I particularly like Nothing Else Matters from S&M2 or Devil’s Dance from S&M.

I've watched you to for a while now. Your Metallica reactions, whatever your personal taste in music is, that's your home ground, your personal preference in musical tastes. Metallica are different because they don't give a fuck about being anything, only themselves. Their music is a testament to self truth, and their live performances of these Classics are a testament to their conviction. To this day, they will blow any other band away. They will go down as the best band in history in Metal, and probably of all time. There are no more Metallica's, There's only one.

James was just growing his hair back out, it was shorter before, it was 99 there was nothing 'grunge' going on in 99. The grunge trend ended around 94-95. His hair had nothing to do with grunge.
