Picture this- these guys were still in their teens writing some of the most iconic metal music ever created and they were so good that their music made it around the world during a time where there was NO social media or radio play. It was word of mouth back then especially for metal. We learned about bands like this from metal magazines then ozzy took them on tour and they fully exploded to the masses. Ozzy has been quoted as saying that they kicked ass every night and it was hard to follow them.

I remember listening to when it came out. Someone got an advanced copy and there were 8 of us in a friends basement in Berkeley listening to it for the first time. We were mesmerized as it opened. It threw us off with the intro, then it goes into this all out thrasher. This song was a continuation of Kill "Em All, and then as the album proceeded we saw the growth of the band. Kill "Em All, Ride The Lightning & Master of Puppets.... every song is a banger.

1st time I saw Metallica was June of 1984 the day after I graduated. I was 17 and had bought a compilation album with Metal Militia on it. The show was in downtown Frankfurt Germany so we ate at a fastfood place and walked to the show. Looked behind me and the guys we sat next to at the Wendy's were carrying guitar cases and went in the side door. They were the warm up band for Twisted Sister. Anyway, talked to them after the show and got their autographs on a Jump in the Fire poster. In the early days they were metal fans just like us.

Great song! Great reaction! Can't go wrong with any of the early Metallica! Looks like you have a plan for upcoming reactions, but like quite a few other people here I highly recommend doing some Pantera. Early stuff to start. "Cowboys From Hell" and "Walk" would be good jumping off points. Megadeth is badass too! Dave Mustaine was the original guitarist of Metallica until he got the boot and formed Megadeth. Anything off of their Rust in Peace album would be a good start for them. Keep rocking man!!

I started playing guitar at about 12 years old (I’m 50 now) due to Metallica. All that was out was up to Master of Puppets. I learned every song off the 3 albums that were out, though it took time. I got decent and learned Justice when it came out, and the Black album also. Then I got married and had a kid, and just fell off playing. Eventually I had to sell all my gear for bills, and now I don’t even own a guitar or amp. I’ve picked up a guitar here and there, and it makes me weep that I’m, understandably, absolute shit now. It kills me that I used to be able to play this near flawlessly and now I couldn’t even get through the first 20 seconds, if I even had a guitar to try. I miss playing, terribly.

Ahh, the days - no internet, no mobile phones. Learned about the new albums coming out in mags - metal hammer, Kerrang, Raw etc… sometimes lucky enough to get a flexi disc stuck to them, I still have loads of them! A few years later than this album but, anyone here remember Krushers Cosmos on Raw Power, then Noisy Mothers? ‘I looked into a bullseyes eye and much to my surprise I saw a bullseye!’ 😂 Also, ‘Things worth going into your mummys purse and steeling those crinkly bits of paper for’ - then he told us of new releases. There was something far more exciting and special queuing for a new LP that you had no clue how it was gonna sound rather than waiting for a download date for something that’s already been leaked somewhere anyway. Not all progress is progress 😢
