Great thing I’ve noticed about Metallica is they don’t block reactions. They own their music and have their own label. For all the shit they get, they’re one of the few bands that don’t block reactions

You mentioned The Thing That Should Not Be. You need to listen to Dream No More by them from Hardwired. Same Lovecraft type themes, and one of their heavier numbers. Would love to see what you think.

James is in the audience at one point as a fan...lol Cheesy and fun stuff. Plus, that outro is taken from the demo version of their song 'The Memory Remains' from your favourite Metallica album RELOAD! lol

I think Death Magnetic, especially, but also this album, Hardwired, were Metallica just getting back to their roots. My favorite part is that bridge, transition into the outro, and the extended outro; so well done and James's vocal delivery was on point at the end too.

11:11 Don't forget the nice part of Phantom Lord too. This song is from Hardwired, their latest album, where Spit out the Bone is in as well. The album was a bit of everything Metallica really. The way you know that this wasn't St Anger is 1. The video is HD and 2. the snare doesn't blow out your ears. Great reaction. After their Garage inc album, they released an album called S&M in 1999 Where Metallica played with an Orchestra, have you heard any songs from there or did you even know that they had played with an Orchestra? its an Amazing album (they did an S&M2 in 2019/2020 as a 20 year anniversary) No Leaf Clover is a Original song from that album. No Leaf Clover is one of the only songs that if Metallica doesn't play it with an Orchestra it sounds empty lol. I know I can't request through youtube comments, but just letting you know that it exists and hoping someone requests the video to No Leaf Clover. Not a crazy song but I think its a great song.

Do you remember when you reacted to spit out the bone and you asked, is the whole album like this?!. Because if not I will only buy the single!. Well this song is also from hardwired. I get shades of fade to black on the hello darkness say good bye!. Metallica proved on this album that they still have it. Thank you for another great reaction!. Peace

15:15 that's just three bars of 4/4. But speaking of Metallica and strange rhythms it's odd that people consider Lars such a bad drummer and they have so many strange rhythmic things on their songs, especially in the early albums. I still can't hear the verses to Fight Fire with Fire the way they are supposed to be and I've listened to the song for decades. The snare hit isn't in the beginning of the bar but my head doesn't agree. The title track on that album is the same way, I know that the first drum hit on the intro isn't in the beginning of the bar but it just keeps turning that way in my head. BTW Halo on Fire is my favourite song from the latest album, it's got a strong Load vibe and I dig it. It's nowhere near Bleeding Me etc. but perhaps my favourite from the latest three albums.

I have the exact same issue with FFWF, it took me 15 years to finally figure out the way it was supposed to be, and still my ear struggles. That's partly because for some reason it sounds like Flemming put a wet blanket over Lars' kick drum, which makes it very hard to catch the rhythm.

Incredible to find someone with the same opinion or close to it regarding Metallica. I think " Master " is their best album, "Justice" the one with better songwriting... but my favorite? My favorite is "Ride The Lightning" all day long man! Another great vid David, keep it up

My second time watching one of your reactions, the first being Judas Priest "Painkiller". I liked your reaction to that and I like this one as well, cause you seem to know music, which is always good. So with that being said I'm subscribing to your channel. I agree with your score and your assessment of this song. By the way this song is from Hardwired.

Wasn't expected a score so high. I'll admit that after the first few times I fall into the background noise when it comes to songs. That is until I get into the deep dive mood and really listen. I think my problem is that I'm not listening to a song, but I'm listening to Metallica and I just expect all the amazing things they do. I think Halo On Fire is middle for the album for me. I really like Here Comes Revenge.

FINALLY some said it out loud. Justice is the pinnacle of their career, in song writing, riffs, and solos, I'll even go as far as saying Lars was at his best on this album. Now the mix, yeah its lacking, but remember the time frame that it came out and everybody was down tuning and it was getting much heavier, I guess this was there way of getting real heavy without down tuning and also giving Jason the screws due to Cliffs passing and the grieving process they went through.

Great reaction as always David! Glad you enjoyed the song. When this first come out I clung straight to that ending after the solo. Builds the emotion up for me. I may have to put a request in on your Patreon as I believe Load and Reload have some really great tracks I think you'd dig if you listened nowadays. I am only 27 but I can imagine those albums were a shock to the system of fans back then who came off of their previous stuff :D

I was a bit nervous that you’d dislike this one because it feels a bit like Fixxxer and The Outlaw Torn from Reload and Load but it’s great to see that you enjoyed this a lot. When I saw them twice during the Worldwired tour they played it at both shows and it was awesome.

Thx David, appreciate your thoughts/interpretations. The album here is Hardwired to Self Destruct; lots of great material IMO. Again I'm a bit stunned your score here was as high as it was, but your explanation made sense. Metallica - still kings of the transitions!! EDIT: I actually thought your score would be 88-89 leading up to what you actually scored it. I'm not a good bettor/gambler..............lol

Would you be open to doing a "revisit/review" of some songs off of Load or ReLoad? I know it's not your bag, but I think some of the songwriting is actually quite good even if it's not your sound. Stuff like Outlaw Torn and Bleeding Me are 2 of my favorite songs from Metallica's entire catalog, especially the S&M versions, and I'd be really curious to hear your thoughts on either of them in this format

When I saw Metallica perform this, Kirk had Peter Green’s Les Paul that was given to Gary Moore. Kirk paid around a million dollars for it, I think. It could have been a reproduction, but it even had the worn area under the pickups. It’s possible he played the actual one for the Hardwired album. To clarify, Peter Green was a phenomenal blues guitarist from Britain who formed Fleetwood Mac. He wrote the famous Santana song, “Black Magic Woman.” Check out a late 60s Mac live performance of that song. It’s wonderful. And Green is probably playing that guitar during those performances.

This is a pretty cool outro attached to a so-so song. The more you listen to this song, the more you just want to skip the first 2/3's and get to the "good bit". Metallica's piecing together of songs starts to show some real lack of thought and creativity with this album (and the next) IMO.

Justice had some riff salad in my opinion, I disagree a bit. The writing gets bloated and overly long in places. That said, it has a top 3 Metallica song on it with One, and several great songs. Puppets was more restrained and seamless, much more fun to listen to.
