Haha so true! I’ve given up guitar multiple times had it for about 3 years now and had no hope, Thought I just wasn’t talented enough even though everyone always told me it takes time and consistency, I was just too slow and smoke on the water was the only little riff I could do with 2 fingers at that, It didn’t matter how long I practiced I would just leave my guitar on the stand after a long failed session and go multiple days without playing. This time I returned to the guitar and have only been practicing 3 days and I’ve learned the full star spangled banner it might be super easy but I’m confident and happy now that I know something and super motivated and excited to continue learning more!... And not to brag or anything but I used 4 fingers while playing it😏. The problem wasn’t time I spent a lot of time playing until I’d frustrate myself and give up, The problem was I wasn’t consistent. The only difference now is I’m using the dots on the side of the guitar to memorize where I have to place my fingers at on the fret for the right note it was so hard just looking at the frets and individually counting each one to find 9🤣

For everyone struggling with the part at 7:28- try just keeping your index finger on the 5th fret and sliding it all the way down to the 2nd fret. In other words, keep the index finger where it is from the part at 7:10 and just drag it down to 2nd fret, completely taking out the shift to 3 and 5 and doing the 5 3 slide to 2 business. Sounds almost exactly the same, is more audible, and significantly easier. I hope this makes sense.

I’ve been practicing this song on and off for 7 months now since I first got my hands on a guitar, and I am so happy that today I finally got it down 🥰 it took a long time for me to learn this song but that’s because I didn’t have any prior experience with a musical instrument. But Marty is a very good teacher and I learned a few songs from him, thank you Marty! And for the beginners out there, don’t give up, you may think that you’re never gonna be able to play guitar but trust me it gets easier with time! Just keep at it! 😁

An advise from a beginner to beginners sometimes im about to give up but I remember when I was beginning and see a little difference and that make me understand it's not easy but the more I practice, the more I get better, we can do it. At the beginning I couldn't even understand some chords and I even put the video in slow motion to see the movement and even with that after I learned the move I realized I forgot to do something but that make me feel good because I finally did it so don't give up just go part by part don't try to learn the whole song at once make sure you can play each part don't have to be fast but make sure you know how to before advance. If you feel frustrated just stop for a while or try another song more easy because maybe you need to train your fingers then come back and try again but slowly. And don't forget, your brain need build new roads, that is called plasticity so practice is the key. Oh by the way I almost finish this first part I just need to practice the minute 17. After I make sure I can play it nice I'll go for the part 2.

I was playing guitar during my teenage years. Not a pro but I know the basics. And then adulthood happened. And I dont remember the last time I held a guitar. I Actually taught my then young nephew how to play and now he is a really good guitarist and he even picked up bass too. Today I took the guitar that was gifted to me by my husband 5 years ago. Changed the strings and chose this song to practice on. Wish me luck as I repolish an old skill 😊 this is going to be one of my stress- busters. Thanks a million for this wonderful tutorial.
