Some guitarists are great technical players but seem to lack the great "feeling" & "expression" others display in their playing. Is it personalty, is it just natural, or is it developed? Could you talk about this sometime?

Please, everyone who is about to give up on this song just don't. I was about to give up a couple days ago, I was too overwhelmed and just couldn't get this intro down. I took it really slow, and was really patient. Three days later i'm playing it without even looking at my picking hand. I honestly didn't think I could do it. You guys can do this, trust me!

Haha so true! I’ve given up guitar multiple times had it for about 3 years now and had no hope, Thought I just wasn’t talented enough even though everyone always told me it takes time and consistency, I was just too slow and smoke on the water was the only little riff I could do with 2 fingers at that, It didn’t matter how long I practiced I would just leave my guitar on the stand after a long failed session and go multiple days without playing. This time I returned to the guitar and have only been practicing 3 days and I’ve learned the full star spangled banner it might be super easy but I’m confident and happy now that I know something and super motivated and excited to continue learning more!... And not to brag or anything but I used 4 fingers while playing it😏. The problem wasn’t time I spent a lot of time playing until I’d frustrate myself and give up, The problem was I wasn’t consistent. The only difference now is I’m using the dots on the side of the guitar to memorize where I have to place my fingers at on the fret for the right note it was so hard just looking at the frets and individually counting each one to find 9🤣

Your teaching is the best I’ve seen out here. No offense to anyone. Maybe it’s just some people learn better with different teachers. Idk but you Sir have helped me tremendously! I remember when I picked up the guitar this was the first song I’ve tried to learn and then after some months I’ve quit playing. Then 5 years later I’ve picked up the guitar again learned some songs i liked and came back to this classic and learned it in not even 30 min and it’s crazy how hard it seemed in the beginning and how “easy” it is with some constant practice :)

For everyone struggling with the part at 7:28- try just keeping your index finger on the 5th fret and sliding it all the way down to the 2nd fret. In other words, keep the index finger where it is from the part at 7:10 and just drag it down to 2nd fret, completely taking out the shift to 3 and 5 and doing the 5 3 slide to 2 business. Sounds almost exactly the same, is more audible, and significantly easier. I hope this makes sense.
