Definitely wonder what today’s Metallica would’ve been like if he was still here. I know he influenced a lot of the songs. I mean his bass works is just out of this world.

Looks like a great setlist. Creeping Death is a perfect opening song, and they have a few slower songs here and there so that there is a bit of a recovery from the faster songs.

Me and a buddy were on Cliff's side of the stage. We were standing on the seats about 20 feet away from him relishing the moment. I can tell you.... Metallica upstaged Ozzy that night.. we didn't want it to end. I still recall it like it damn near yesterday, it left that much of an imprint on me and my friend. Thank you Metallica and rip Cliff. Unfortunately a lot of it is marred by James’ guitar being out of tune. He definitely is on this song, and it’s horribly obvious on “For Whom the Bell Tolls”. That one is truly depressing because it ruins an otherwise legendary performance by Cliff Burton.

This concert was such a big deal for the boys , Cliff being a San Francisco local and going to Day on the Green concerts for years it was a moment of realising that he had " made it" , he had a deal with his parents that they would pay his bills for 3 years and he would go full time with his music and if after 3 years he hadn't gone anywhere he would pack it in and get a " Real " job , so this marked a moment that he could see success and his parents ( Jan and Ray ) knew he was going to be alright. There is also the story of James and his mates trashing the Backstage trailer they were staying in that day and being called into notorious San Francisco promotor Bill Graham's office to get yelled at , James totally maned up and said " we are young and dumb , we meant no harm and we are sorry ,I will try and do better!" To which Bill respected and appreciated James from that day forward , on there return to the Day on the Green in 91 , Bill had put plastic coverings on EVERYTHING including the Beer bottles , the couches, the roof , the fruit bowl as a joke. Legendary concert and a HUGE day in Metallica history.

I have deep respect for Jason and Robert (I really enjoy him) but the feeling infused by Cliff made this line up unforgettable. Even decades after we're still here to regret Cliff.

Seen the band around this time. Small indoor club. Right after someone dropped Ride the Lightning on my desk and said "listen to this". Great timing having the album and a concert 100 miles away in El Paso. Great times.

@Abraham Álvarez Yes that’s right. I wondered if anyone else noticed. I was playing the solo tonight actually, it’s one of my favourites. You could see Kirk was looking over to hear where James was. They got in sync towards the end of the arpeggios in the solo. Somethings guitar players might notice I guess. Hey they landed on their feet.
