@@NoneMoreMetal Only thing is Hardwired...To Self-Destruct was 12 songs long but didn't have an instrumental. But I wouldn't be surprised this time around if they put one on 72 Seasons because as the band is older and may want to showcase their musical prowess at least one more time before it's the time to hang it up and retire. And if it was the final track it'd be set up like The Call Of Ktulu on Ride The Lightning.

I'm really liking these titles. Some interesting ones indeed. Upon first listen of Screaming Suicide I thought it was weak. Upon further analysis I really like it. I just had to pay more attention to the riff structures. My only complaint about these new Metallica songs are that the guitars are a little too low in the mix. A couple of sharp-eyed viewers pointed out that I overlooked some Metallica songs with the word "My" in the title: Wasting My Hate, All Within My Hands, and Ain't My Bitch. Full disclosure: Metallica's surprise drop of Screaming Suicide messed with my planned video release schedule. As in, I published this video earlier than originally planned. As a result, my proof-reading and quality assurance wasn't as good as it should have been. Sorry about that.

I, obviously, haven't spent the time analyzing the new song titles but you should go and listen to Screaming Suicide now and see if you had the right feeling on that one. After some thought I decided that I like the title Sleepwalk My Life Away. It makes me think of of Frantic: 'if I could have my wasted days back would I use them to get back on track' ... I have to assume it is about the struggle of addiction like Frantic.

My personal list. 1. Lux Æterna - It's not the meaning, it's the actual title as it is. One of the first times we've seen a title like this, in American thrash history. 2. Shadows Follow - Quite the interesting title. I don't really have much to say about it. 3. Chasing Light - Quite a spooky title. Again, like ROM, there are many different ways you can imagine this title. I like to see this as a person who has lost his good reputation, and his kindness, and is trying to regain it. 4. Screaming Suicide - Sounds like a Slayer song title as you said, and I really love Slayer. Of course, we've already heard this, but I'm just judging by the title. 5. Inamorata - I'm expecting this to be the instruemntal. Judging by the meaning of this title, I'm expecting a TLITD-esque song. TLITD was a tribute to Cliff, and obviously, the person this song is dedicated to is a lover. 6. Sleepwalk My Life Away - This is track #4, and judging by the title, I'm expecting a very deep and personal song. James really has a way with words when it comes to personal lyrics. Fixxxer and Outlaw Torn are the only examples I can think of, but there are probably more. 7. Room of Mirrors - There are lots of different ways you can imagine this phrase. "Room of Mirrors". You can think of it as a literal room of mirrors, or all the mirrors show the person you want to be, and not yourself. 8. 72 Seasons - As interesting as the backstory is, the title itself doesn't interest me. That's pretty much it. 9. Crown of Barbed Wire - Again with the cheesiness. There's not much else to say about this, to be honest. 10. You Must Burn! - Metallica has a really good record of putting fast and kickass tracks after the ballad, or track #4. Title isn't too interesting, but I'm still expecting a good song. 11. If Darkness Had a Son - This title sounds cheesy to me. If this really is the insturmental, which I don't think it is, then it'd better make up for the title. 12. Too Far Gone? - Not very interesting to me in the slightest. Am I Savage? was a good song, but the title isn't really that good. Let's hope it's the same case with Too Far Gone?.

Wow, thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts. You have some good observations here. I didn't factor historic song placement on previous albums (i.e., song 3 = ballad, etc...) into my rankings, and looking back, I think that makes a lot of sense to consider.

people do NOT understand how important titles are! its what we literally identify the songs as, so they better be good and memorable. everyone i ran into thought 'darkness had a son' was a cool title, i thought it was cheesy. also notice how there's three 's' titles back to back? that's actually a massive pet peeve of mine. i will reorder the tracklist once april comes around. great video!

Screaming Suicide, Lux Aeterna, Crown of Barbed Wire, and Inamorata are the most intriguing titles for me, the rest are kind of generic. My least favorite title is either 72 seasons or If Darkness had a Son. The concept of 72 seasons being the first 18 years of life is interesting, but I've never liked the name 72 seasons, it's kind of dull. I feel like Lux Aeterna, Crown of Barbed Wire, or Inamorata would have been a much more intriguing album title.

My theory of the lyrical meaning of the song titles: 72 Seasons (Looking back at your past [old school trash sound]), shadows follow (trying to escape from the burden of darkness [old school Thrash sound]), Sleepwalk my life away (trying to see the world in a decent light but not being able to yet still hoping [ballad sound]), You must burn! (witchcraft and the negative connotation of it[Thrash/Speed metal sound]), Crown of barbed wire (the Messiah complex and the tackling of religious exploitation [old school Thrash sound]), Chasing light (the fear of the unknown and the mystery of wonder [groovy sound]), If darkness had a song(instrumental [ballad sound]), Too far gone?(the absolute most extreme possible terror known to man[Speed metal sound]), Room of mirrors (loosing knowledge of the outside world [old school Thrash sound]), Inamorata (seeing the end of a journey and taking it with a smile [Technical speed metal sound]). Edit: I now think that Inamorata is an instrumental and it will have a pseudo-thrash sound
