The entire concert is epic. I have it on dvd and haven't watched in a while. I think I need to watch it soon. They all did such a great job on this. The orchestra players seemed to enjoy it too. Great choice of songs to react to from this performance.

I was actually there in San Francisco for that show. I seen Metallica like 30 times but the Sand M 2 show was the best sounding concert ever!!

I grew up playing classical Music on piano and I’ve been a huge huge Metallica fan since the mid 80s and combining the two was perfect and long overdue. I have always thought metal music was closely related to classical so the orchestra just perfectly fits! I mean Beethoven to me was as heavy as it gets!

Greeny is what Kirk named that guitar, he got a good deal out of it not the published price of $2M definitely. Legend has it this guitar had its pick up replaced by Peter Green in a guitar shop in London by an dude who installed it backwards. But the magic of this guitar, the sound was not out of phased, and produces a unique guitar tone.

The original 1999 performance (S&M) conducted by the legendary late Micheal Kamen in a more intimate setting at the Berkeley Community Theatre is by far a better version, especially because it was the first time this song was ever done, written for that concert [and SF symphony collaboration] actually.

The story you told about "Greeny" isnt entirely true. While it's true he paid a massive amount of money for the guitar, Kirk Hammett stated in an interview that the guitar he plays onstage is an exact replica, as the original is too valuable for him to travel with.
