I love Hetfield's voice throughout Metallica's career for different reasons. But there is something absolutely soaring and golden about his voice between about 1991-2000. It's the thing that THEN I didn't appreciate. I wanted more growl. Looking back now, he had amazing clarity and effortless range in his thirties.
@midnight347 Жыл бұрын
I agree there were many times like this example here where he sounded great but there were other times he sounded like yodeling shit lol. This particular performance is a great example how good he was then. The only era I really don't like was like 2000-2005ish once they got around to doing the dm stuff in 2006 and on things picked up again lol. They was at a low low point in the 2000s. He doesn't sound bad on st anger album but the live stuff usually sucked from that era. The song st anger is good I like frantic other than the frantic tic tic tic part it's kind if annoying otherwise great song. It has good moments I'm not a big fan overall. Point being that era was their lowest and the 90s was among their best just behind the legendary 85-91 metallica
@sixpath Жыл бұрын
the clarity is why im so addicted to metallica having grown up with slipknot, lamb of god, suicide silence, august burns red... i got into a7x heavy after seeing them live.. originally i thought m shadows vocals were too clean as well. understanding and connecting to the lyrics/music makes it way heavier than growls and distortion could ever hope to.
@rocketpigrecords371911 ай бұрын
Fact is, with a modern vocal coach James could have cultivated this latter approach while also being able to still BROOTZ withthe best of em. But in 1991, when he was losing his voice from years of unschooled "bad" screaming? I couldn't tell you if anyone had yet figured it out.

One of the better covers of an original song, the original being done by the NWOBHM band Holocaust sometime around that late 70's, maybe 1980.
