@@continentalaquatics2725 Still mid 50's now basically. Rob is 55, Lars and James are 56 and Kirk is 57 (so he's probably considered late 50's our of 4)

Andy K Wow. Rob looks a good decade younger than the rest of them. Maybe that’s what the rigors of touring will do to you. James was looking pretty healthy at that car/guitar show event a couple of months ago fresh out of rehab. The guys from U2 also look like they aged 30 years in the last 5 years. Writing songs, memorizing them, playing them, balancing your work life with your private life plus the financial elements...being a successful rock star has to be one of the hardest jobs on the planet!

@continentalaquatics27254 жыл бұрын
A lot of people don’t realize that sometimes 90%+ of the guitar that you hear on a Metallica studio track was probably laid down by James. I love Kirk and all, but I love James’ solos (Nothing Else Matters, the first solo in Master Of Puppets, Whiskey In The Jar, etc). Kirk is the shredder in the group (as James actually said in an interview a few years ago), but James is an absolute rhythm guitar MACHINE. I never heard James screw up on the guitar (and his guitar is louder than Kirk’s when they play live). His rhythm playing is flawless...very rigid. He once said “I think it’s the German in me” when asked about what a perfectionist he was when it came to his rhythm playing. I find his solos to be a bit more choice than Kirk’s sometimes. Take “Nothing Else Matters” for instance...James played what was best for the song - not too fast, not too slow, not too short, not too long, 100% emotion, just right!!!

I would argue that the writing abilities of Metallica in their early years were similar to that of The Beatles. So many classic and amazingly well written songs. I don’t know how they captured that magic, but their first five albums are packed full of incredible stuff.

I have been to at least 5 Metallica concerts, this is a "soft ballad"....The energy that they have and produce live is unmatched. It can not be explained when they were in their prime unless you were there, they are true professionals to music in the 80-90's, while they were doing a lot of drugs and shit, they did not let it effect the music they produced, even live. They just made good music and enjoyed doing it.

The 1989 concert, you are referring to that had 1.5 million people, was the Moscow Peace Festival, in Russia, Metallica was one of many bands that took part in that Festival, a who's who, of metal music played that Festival that year, Ozzy, Motley Crue, Metallica, etc. Those people were there to see alot of bands. It was the first time for that scale of a metal show in Russia, and they loved it.

The concert with 1.6 mill was actually a concert in which several big bands played in Moscow. That was the first time American bands could play over there so people, as you can see, were going nuts. The concert from this video held probably 50-55 thousand people. I saw them on that tour when they came to the ATL. Check out Disposable Heroes Mexico City 🤟🤟🤟

No other band has had that many at a concert. Metallica was playing for 10,000 people before they got signed. A small record label in San Francisco endorsed them be for Elektra signed them.

I would also be curious to see what biggest concert was where they headlined and people had to pay for tickets. The concert in Moscow ,for example, was a free concert and had some of the biggest names performing. James Hetfield does an interveiw about this concert which is available on KZbin as well. AC/DC, Metallica, Motorhead and Pantera were all there, all hard men of the industry, and it was the first concert with international performers after the fall of the iron curtain. I also believe we don't see much of the other bands performances in Russia due to bad lighting and rain making quality poor. You certainly can't see the crowd size.

Ohhh swaggy 🙈 Mate first instrument I played was sax, then piano (James started on piano), but you are in a fantasy world if you think the guitar is the easiest to play 🤦🏻♂️. Takes dedicated decades worth of hours to play consistent tone like you’re hearing from this band. A life time to play the likes of Yngwie Malmsteen. There’s more in common with classical music and metal how Metallica plays, or any other talented guitar playing metal group than Michael Jackson has in common with Katy Perry.. Other than they’re both considered pop music lol. I hope you do pick up a guitar and happy Metallica was the band that made you want to play. But be prepared to put the work in! You’re not going to down pick puppets at 220 bbm or finger pick call of ktulu at 175 overnight. IMO the guitar played at a high level is the hardest instrument to play. Just be warned mate.. if you wanna be good, you must put the work in 🍻🤗
