Lloyd Grant would hang out at the Brea Guitar Center playing Metallica songs and telling people he was the original guitar player for Metallica. Nobody believed him. Pretty funny to see him up there playing with them.

My dad was friends with Lloyd in college. My dad is into reggae music and he saw Lloyds band play a lot because Lloyd is from Jamacia and played a lot of reggae music too. My dad said that Lloyd said he was in Metallica and my dad didn't exactly believe him at first then idk around 30 years later he looks on the Metallica wiki and sees Lloyd on there and sees this footage and he's like holy crap Lloyd was right. My dad said Lloyd went on to become something in science.

McGovney actually talked about how one time he went to a show after he stepped down for Cliff and he said when he tried to go back stage to see the guys everyone blew him off and the bands new manager actually got pissed at him for being there. The only guy that payed him attention and stood up for him? The one and only Cliff Burton. Cliff ripped the manager apart and told him to show some respect to an original member of the band while the others in the band never even said hi. Hope that they've patched their relationship up now and this wasn't just a gimmick. RIP Cliff.

Brooo ... is that Cliff Burton is a god's bread, a capo who had a very unique style and seeing this makes me think and you see her cry, I wish Cliff had been there to hug each member that was changed from The band, I loved that Cliff, not being the original member, had respect for the one who, thanks to McGovney, was able to welcome both Lars James and Dave (although the asshole treated him badly) to make the album that would start the band's trajectory .

Cliff is the greatest loss Metallica have ever suffered. After losing him their music became boring and by reading this anecdote I can also assume they suffered an irreparable loss of humanity.

They were young and immature in those days, Cliff was beyond his years. I'm sure that all smoothed over as the years went on. I wouldn't hold how they acted in 1982 against them at this point in their lives. I'm sure Ron has moved on. I remember being in highschool and everyone in a band was on edge for some reason and would put up walls between themselves and people they felt quit on them.

@@Fit.For.A.Firefight. Cliff really sounds like he was quite s complex individual; trained classically in music, intellectual, and brought up to have maturity, respect, and character, and yet was deeply drawn to heavy metal music. Sounds like a fascinating person to have known. Would have been awesome to see who he and the band would have been had cliff lived.

Jordan Kay Hugh Tanner was a member of Leather Charm that was formed in June 1981 following the demise of Phantom Lord, a garage band featuring James Hetfield. Hetfield and Tanner were joined by Hetfield's childhood friend and roommate Ron McGovney, and later drummer Jim Mulligan. While Hetfield had played guitar in Phantom Lord, he acted solely as lead vocalist in Leather Charm. Tanner was replaced several months later by guitarist Troy James. When Mulligan left the group in late 1981, Leather Charm disbanded and Hetfield began working with drummer Lars Ulrich on a new project, Metallica. Early the next year, McGovney and guitarist Dave Mustaine completed Metallica's first gigging lineup. So James Hetfield, Ron McGovney, Lars Ulrich and Dave Mustaine are the first original members of Metallica.

I was wondering if anyone else has noticed how much of James’ and Dave’s playing is the same. Watch how they move their left hand. They are the only two guitarists that I have ever seen play that way. Their hands snap from one chord to the next, landing on the chord at the top of the beat. Watch Kirk and Lloyd, they play like any other red blooded american does moving from one chord to the next. I think we have heard great music from metallica and Megadeth, I just wonder what would have happened if James and Dave had continued to write music together
