@thorinhetfield94202 жыл бұрын
As a Metallica fan since day 1 , I saw the original tour of Raven/Metallica , you and the others who liked your comment , obviously know nothing about Metallica. Cliff Burton WAS Metallica. He will never be replaced. Cliff was the principal songwriter and lyricist for the band. James and Lars knew Cliff was a musical genius and in the early days it was Cliff not James and Lars that called the shots. Cliff wrote the music and the harmonies of the first 3 records. Two of those records , Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets , are IMO the greatest records ever recorded. Metallica will never be able to replicate the sound and brilliance of those first 3 records. Metallica was never the same after his death. September 27, 1986 was one , if not thee , saddest days of my life. I , and other day 1 fans , rejected Jason when he first joined the band but in time he established himself and I grew to accept him. He was willing to sign autographs and take pictures with fans free of charge unlike the ridiculous VIP packages that Metallica and other bands do these days. I don't blame Jason for leaving as Metallica became more corporate and business like. I purchased Jason's Listen To Metal record. It is awesome. Maybe James and Lars should have let him in the room when they were writing music. Most notably Jason's song ...As The Crow Flies is better than any song Metallica has recorded in the past 30 years. Don't get me wrong I still love Metallica I still buy their records (Death Magnetic was their best record since Justice) and I see them every time they tour to hear the early day songs of RTL and MOP. The songs that are the soundtrack to my life. Jason was great , he earned and deserves respect but to say Jason is Metallica is ridiculous. As for Robert , I dont really have an opinion of him. I think Lars and James should let him in the writing room and let him create his own signature bass intro (take one) just as Cliff (Anesthesia Pulling Teeth) and Jason (My Friend Of Misery) have. Thanks for reading. Thumbs down are welcome.

I don't get people not appreciating Rob. He's a legend on his own. He is a beast, not to mention Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves. Thank you. Jason's groove and aggression is what makes him such a perfect fit for Metallica. Metallica was never about their skill. Lars and Kirk, for all intents and purposes, aren't the best at their instruments. Cliff and James are the most talented members of the bands, and they weren't really virtuosos. But they all had the aggression and the drive. Jason's groove, aggression, and drive is what made him a perfect fit for Metallica. He wasn't a shredder bassist, but goddamn if he didn't have a strong sense of groove, an extremely aggressive style, and extremely tight with his playing. Rob has the skill, but he has the wrong kind of groove. He's more of a funk bassist. He lacks the aggression Cliff and Jason had. Like most people I accepted he isn't in the band anymore, but I've always missed Jason in the band. He was, in many ways, the perfect replacement for Cliff.

Rob's probably a good bit better than Jason on a technical level, but Jason had a really intimidating intensity about him. He was an evangelist for the band. Like, anybody who ever said Metallica sucked, I think Jason would have wanted to go find them and set them straight. He knew how lucky he was to be in the band and it seemed like he never took it all for granted, like he wanted to prove his worth every time he performed with the band. It's like Rob had the technicals and Jason had the personality. If you could have chimera'd them together, you'd basically have another Cliff.

@warrenjensen46705 жыл бұрын
@@jackbauer1818 Cliff WAS Metallica, James Lars Kirk have said that themselves. Cliff taught them music theory, and introduced them to Classical music influences that they morphed into melodic pieces within their furious thrash. He played bass like a lead guitarist, in fact Kirk has recalled how offstage Cliff mostly played guitar. Cliff's impact on his bandmates (including Dave Mustaine) cannot be understated. Yes his myth and mystique have grown in the decades since his untimely passing, but I can guarantee anyone who grew up with Cliff's (and even Jason's) era will testify Cliff was integral to that band. The fact that he was only in the band for three years and his memory is still revered today is evidence of his importance to early Metallica and well beyond.

@snapascrew6 жыл бұрын
you guys are all totally missing what his comment is - James doesn't like to feel low end on stage and that's all is meant by the comment. it's the exact reason that there aren't subwoofers on the floor at metallica shows anymore and they're all hung in the air. James cant stand having the stage shake all the time and because this stage is so small with the bass amps up there that was the joke Robert was making.

@jonny j I completely agree. It's a pity that Jason was sacrificed but that AJFA sound is for me Metallica at it's most exciting, as much as I love the thrashers on Master and Ride the Lightning.
