12:54 James’ smile here is perfect. It shows that he appreciates Robert, and that he is grateful to know him. Because Even though he still misses Cliff, and playing live with Jason, Robert is still a friend, bandmate, and more than all, family. And it Also shows that he likes that Even though Robert wasn’t there, he still talks about his bands record, and that is exactly what Cliff would have wanted, for metallica to be one big, happy family. Same with Lars’ stare at 13:03

hearing them talk about Cliff is such a bittersweet thing , my old man told me back in '84 he met cliff and how he thought cliff was gonna be some egotistical jerk like most popular metalheads at that time , but instead he said cliff gave him a beer and talked for a couple minutes about led zeppelin , story gives me the good chills every time I hear it , RIP Mr.Burton .

Kinda sad when they were talking about Cliff and Orion and all that part, you can still hear a bit of hurting there in James's voice when he talks about him. To this day I don't think most fans realise just how devistating that must have been to these guys. It's a real credit to Cliff that his contribution to their overall sound is still audible through all these years even with some of the more drastic changes in song writing approaches on different records. Credit to Jason and Rob for being able to come into that at the points they did and deal with it. Especially Jason though. Couldn't have been easy. I'd love to listen to this same sort of discussion about Justice actually. I bet that one is a little more awkward in parts... Like the mixing choice 😂. I think I get why did what they did though.
@alexanderrojas7945
@alexanderrojas7945 4 жыл бұрын
In a big part it's because they're aware that with Cliff they would have overcome everything they did after he passed away. Cliff was a very open musician and would surely have liked many of the changes the band made, but he would have taken it to another level thanks to his musical knowledge. I suppose that James, Lars and Kirk when they're talking about Cliff must think about how many amazing things would have happened with him in the band.

I know it's a tall ask, but if they can ever do it, I really hope they do a book just about him and everything they can remember about him. And that's the important part, not just about Cliff himself, but how others remember him, the things they did with him and so on.

Rob nailed it on the head when he said the album is the perfect balance of Groove and heavy. I've been trying to put that into words myself for many years and explain why Puppets is as Puppets is. Additionally, it just seems right that I should hear the perfect description coming out of Rob's mouth. It further confirms to me that he is in the place that he belongs and the universe is in harmony.

Can we get Flemming back for the next album please???
@Syklonus
@Syklonus 5 жыл бұрын
I think Flemming is a little behind the times. They should go to an established modern day metal engineer/producer like Andy Sneap, becasue he genuinely loves the 80s thrash metal scene. The guy they have in now (Greg Fidelman) just doesn't seem to know how to do a metal production. He's already given them a disaster when he mixed Death Magnetic AND Lulu, and while HTSD wasn't the worst production i'd ever heard, it sounded off - like a rock production trying to me a metal one. The guitar tone was too flat and the drums just sounded weird.

Hmm, I get what you're saying, but have you heard of Evile's first album, Enter The Grave? The album was produced by Flemming. He does some pretty top quality production there too. It's nice and raw, similar to the late 80's with a little touch of modern metal production quality.

It's a milestone, and these guys are living legends, but none of this would be real without the late Cliff Burton. The genius behind one of the best musical pieces in modern music: Orion. Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and more bands fuel my creativity. I dont know where I’d be without music. It’s therapeutic and it makes me happy.

Cliff made Metallica the band that it was and it's so sad we lost him so young cause I know in my heart that if he never died that they would've been even greater and never would've had such pedestrian albums like St Anger and as pretty good and popular as the Black Album was, it was still a huge step down from Ride and Puppets, Cliff was like a Metal Beethoven, he made it a Symphony of Metal, as great as rest of them may be non of them could/can orchestrate music like Cliff could, he'll always be missed along with the music he never got to help Metallica write

When Cliff died Metallica was never the same. It was a gradual decline. I saw the Master Of Puppets tour they opened for Ozzy at Long Beach Arena. Mind blowing with Cliff. Seen them 3 times since and lefty early the last time. Saw Jason's first gig at the country Club in Reseda in 1986. Some guys can't be replaced. Almost wish they would have hung it up back then.

I’ve been on a Metallica kick for the past couple weeks now. Watching interviews, live shows, and whatever else is out there on these dudes. I’ve been a fan for a while now but I’ll never grow tired of listening to all of them get together like this and talk. They’ve been around for squillions of years but that bond of brotherhood has never been broken and it’s so rad to see that on and off stage. Love these dudes forever. Love hearing Flemming Rasmussen on this one. You can really hear his Danish accent. Lars' has almost dissapeared in all his years in the US. Would have been fun if Lars and him spoke some Danish just to keep the other guys left thinking "what are they saying?" (Plus I like hearing my own language on international media because it happens so rarely)

What a surreal experience for an extremely shy and humble Rob. Amazingly humble and to be in this band, to have the killer bass skill sets to win that gig was in itself staggering. And boy has Rob gone on and just aced it and then some. Age brings maturity, this clip evidence and a reminder of such. Great stuff, the amazing bak catalogue and history of one of the biggest and best metal bands on display.

The first Metallica song I ever heard was a blessing from God. Only he knew I would be sneaking out with my older brother and his friend and my head would be right next to the big home stereo speaker in the back of the car.... As Master of Puppets played I was amazed at the sheer perfection of speed, melody, and purpose behind every single note.... I would be forever a Metallica fan after that moment.❤🔥 Thank you Metallica for creating such an epic whirlwind of art, It is still my goto workout music to this day. 🔥Listen, feel, sweat, euphoria....That is Metallica to me.

It’s great because it never gets boring no matter how many times you listen to it every song has so many directions like it’s fast and then it will mellow out and sound like a different song and it’s like a roller coaster ride and yet all the different directions that are in one song absolutely jell together perfectly and then the lyrics and how perfect they fit the song it’s just a masterpiece album and it’s a shame that cliffs not here to see the impact that his musical passion has inspired so many and it makes me wonder what other great ideas he didn’t get the chance to create and from the stories I heard from people that were close to him about him being just a down to earth person and a good friend to the people that were lucky enough to be his friend god bless you Cliff Burton you will live forever in your music

I love the high raspy vocal style of Puppets. The cover art and the songs have crazy analogies of what happens in today's day and age, it is almost prophetic and scary. The riffs I can't even play and the vocals were the end of the early era with a bit of added jet fuel to them and the subject matter, looking back explores the depths of lunacy and truthful grim visions of life, war, and religion, and morphing into Justice vocals, which then crossed over to the Black one.

+Mustafa Şatıroglu, Yeah I hope this is a series, do one for every album. Also, this may sound like a weird idea, but if you can have multiple guitar players in a band, then why not multiple Bass players, i.e. their not just going to kick Rob out (and I wouldn't want them to) so the next best thing is to have 2 Bass players. P.S. The second Bass player I'm referring to in Jason.
@satiroglu44
@satiroglu44 7 жыл бұрын
Blue Glass Productions I'm totally agreed with you man. I hope they do it serious too, there's different kinds of Metallica at every albums era. I especially wonder about AJFA. Because, they lost Cliff, a genious musician and bassist. It's normally effected their music. Even their behave to Jason. And about 2 bass idea, It could be really great. Multiple bass is not a requirement like two guitars, because guitars does melodies together. But they did awesome job with Jason at gig they did at San Francisco, 2011. Jason is a great musician, he surely put new ideas to band. And most of the fans loves him, plus his back vocals are great live, especially at these times.

+Rickey Ryan, But Jason would be there for mainly Nostalgia reasons, so he'd be playing the same shit as Rob, but people would be happy just to see him, as well as hear his vocals. An writing/recording wise, he would contribute too, as Metallica seems to be much more accepting of having Bass in their band these day's (and have admitted that themselves, and admitted that many of Jason's ideas were turned down simply because he wasn't Cliff). Or another idea, could be to have Rob and Jason rotate, so have Rob do the first half of the set list, Jason do the second half, then have both of them come on stage to do an Encore or something.

Great video! I played the middle section of Orion at my dad's funeral this year. When I was in high school I used to listen to metal a lot. I would often play Master of Puppets over my stereo in my room as that is one of my favorite albums of all time. One day my dad asked me what "that melodic classical sounding song" was. I figured out he was talking about Orion. From that day on he would often play Orion whenever he had his stereo setup going downstairs in our old house. It was his favorite Metallica piece. Every time I hear that song I think of my dad. I chose to play Orion's middle section at my dad's funeral because it is special to my dad and to me as a sort of bonding over music. I miss him.

Like most of the Metallica fans out there, I can never forget the chills, goosebumps and the feelings it gave me when I first listened to those songs on MoP. It was autumn time and together with my family we had travelled to a remote place for a weekend vacation. Leaves were falling and all that orange/brown/red mixture of colors of the forest would blend so well with the concept art of MoP. I'd bought the MoP in cassette format and it was then when I heard the whole album for the first time. Together with the atmosphere and surroundings that I was in, I was also quite messed up in the head. I was like 12 years old and didn't know what to do, what to expect from life (still have no idea) and I was feeling rebellious, kind of raging and so... But those riffs, drums, melodies, lyrics etc... they all came to my aid and have been such a shoulder to rest on in times when I felt weak. And that middle/interlude section of MoP song... This alone shows how these guys have felt about the music and artistry and put the strength of their imagination into their material at the time of writing the songs. That particular part all in a sudden hits you in the face and you can imagine hands from the skies, from within darkness or from nowhere pulling strings of a weakened, sad, broken puppet, just before the song reaches to a sweet climax where it explodes into its full potential with giving you eargasm until the closing bits. For emotional people like me, that particular song has those up and down moments that throws you into a turbulence from which you actually survive, ironically, with the help of the same song again. Since those years, I have listened to many great songs, bands and lots of extreme stuff like death metal but none of them (except Death) gave me such strong feelings and reflections. Thank you MetallicA, for being a driving force in our lives and for participating in our precious memories! \m/ PS. As a man growing up to this age with the absence of a father figure in my life, I can only sympathize what James had gone through in the past. Apart from what he created with MetallicA, this fact alone makes him a heroic icon for me.

The reason MOP has still, to this day, so many people into it, is because it is a freaking musical masterpiece, Beethoven is drooling over this in a far away place, Eminem wants to know the secret to getting to a place where the lyrics sound like poetry of reality for so many people, my right hand wants to know what's wrong with it that it can't seem to keep tempo to the main riff it's that fast and aggressive, Slash wants to play it live but he's too blues'y to make it feel real, It's that good that even non-metal folks want and do headbang to it. it ticks all the boxes, even the ones that weren't there.
