When Megadeth parted ways with Gar Samuelson, they lost a style of drumming that they'd never get back. Samuelson is easily one of my favorite drummers and a top influence of mine. It's astounding that interviews and clips of him are so hard to find. He's just very underrated.

In the present, fewer and fewer bands have the opportunity to develop as organically as in the pre-internet era. All of that good music coming from someone yelling "shut up!", looking for cigarettes, then eventually hanging out and jamming. Back then, they likely called each other up all the time as well. They bonded. Yeah, bands broke up back then, but it was different.

This is the best Megadeth lineup right here; they beat the 90's line up by a hair. RIP & Countdown are classics, but Peace Sells...is just otherworldly in terms of musicianship, power, and darkness. In an alternate universe, they would have been just as successful as the Friedman-Menza line up.

Alas, I don't think so. The problems were not only in drugs...Dave, as Gar said, is "hard to work with," at least it was hard for him. His lies and attempts to fool them more than once, they had a very peculiar relationship in the group and it is unlikely that Gar would have stayed there. Very unlikely

This will always be my favorite Megadeth lineup. Don’t get me wrong, I love the line ups and albums afterwards, but the first two Megadeth albums with the two Dave’s, Chris, and Gar, are some of my favorite records ever. The sound was great and Gar and Chris brought something really special to the table. Of course rest in peace Gar, great drummer. One of my all time favorites.

I think Gar died from Kidney disease, or kidney failure. Had to do with the heroin he was doing. And Dave didn't leave Metallica, they kicked him out because they thought he was going to 'kill em all'.

I think those demos were recorded in 1989 right before Marty Friedman joined the band. Chris Poland was asked to rejoin Megadeth, but he never took up the offer. I'd like to know when Dave Mustaine wrote "Holy Wars" because that's a very progressive thrash metal song.
