A few corrections for you Stanley from a long time Metal Pless and Arctic owner. 1)I have 6 seasons on my live edge and carbides still have 50%left. 2) Arctic has made a lot of drastic changes to the "pucks" just in the past few years, prior to that puck breakage was a serious problem and breakage was more from bad design then "rough operators" 3) Yes a power wing is obviously more expensive, but a standard box pusher Metal Pless live edge is actually cheaper then an Arctic by at least 1,000 Metal Pless is a far superior pusher, hence why I no longer own a single Arctic and have a fleet of live edges now

I run an HLA wing plow which is the direct competition to the metalpless. During the video I noticed numerous times the metalpless was angled back too far. If he rolls the blade forward more changing the angle of the cutting edge to the ground it will cut better. It’s tricky running those blades on skidsteer since you can articulate it up down and tilt it front back. The cutting edge angle to the ground is critical for getting it to get down to the pavement. The pusher boxes are much quicker to get use to as you set it on the ground and rock it back and forth until the shoes are flat. In our fleet we run 2 different pushers, v-plow, HLA wing plow, straight blade and buckets. They all have their place depending on the property layout. I love the big pusher box to move lots of snow quick. Our big straight blade opens it up to bare pavement quick. The wing plow is more of a Swiss Army knife....does everything. I’m in the twin cities also. Be fun to hook up with you guys if you wanna see the HLA plows we run.

As someone that has ran a metal pless live edge blade for 7-8 years. They are a very heavy build blade. We run 4 12foots on 924-930 loaders and 5 10foots on skids or smaller 906 loaders. And out of all the blades. We have changed a total of 2 cutting edges and both cases being operator miss use or abuse. As for the 30% more fuel I know we haven’t seen numbers like that, if anything less fuel as it’s less trips back to scrape. But have noticed a huge difference in the amount of product used after plowing. Realistically probably a 30-40% reduction in salt.

Metal Pless is more versatile if you have anything besides parking lots. What will the Arctic do with roads? Metal Pless can get a little closer to garage doors when back dragging. MP on compact wheel loader has the ability to legally road between sites. At 1:13 in the video had the operator had the main section of the blade angled to the left he would not have had 2 windrows, MP will carry almost the same amount AND windrow to either side. Arctic much less expensive and less complicated.

9 out of 10 contractors will go with a box pusher because of price and the size of eqipment they already use for their summer business which is usually landscaping and/or lawn care. Sure, a 24 ft metalpless on a big loader will do the work of 2 skids with 1 operator, but most companies are running smaller equipment and have guys they need to keep busy anyway. The box pusher also wins because you can put 2 or 3 guys in 1 big location if needed and then put them in 2 or 3 different smaller locations. Numbers game as always.

Don't it's not worth it I did it for s few years but it took to much if a toll mentally in me, I was the manager,/supervisor and I plowed and also did the side walks so there was quite a bit of physical work in as well since it seemed like every one of my sites I could not get a four wheeler plow and it all had to be hand shoveled.and I could do 72 hours fine without sleep but one of the last month's I did it there were a few 100 to 120 hour events and it caused about if health problems which the Dr told me it was related to the hours I was up with no recouping time. 20 to 30 hours is fine but 50 plus I'd just gold foolish and is not any amount of money.

@@Dirtmonkey that's exactly what I was I mean I did mention that in the first sentence lmao just giving ya some crap even when I was just on a sidewalk crew before I got to become plow operator full time, even on sidewalk I remember being up 30 to 40 hours I remembered when I finally got to plow full time it is the best thing ever because the max I was up was maybe 30 hours. I remember one snow storm we're out of 20 sidewalk guys hey buddy John and I were the only ones who showed up for almost 20 sites me and him, we snow shoveled but used small tractors and four-wheelers where more than normal even I'm spots where we weren't supposed to(with permission of course, and it ended up being 127 hours straight without stopping but I tell you what they gave us both almost a $2,000 bonus and it still wasn't worth it.

Wanna clarify some things said in the video and give my 2¢. The third controller you need for the metal please is machine dependant. Cat bobcat and case won't need. But asv and John Deere joysticks just don't have enough physical buttons to run it. Most loaders as well only have a single joystick with 3-4 buttons. And so, an extra joystick is needed. But, the use of plows was amazing! It's not a lot meant for the metal please but it still did an amazing job. It's moreso meant for condo complex style plowing where you have lots of corners and lots of cars that you have to get very close to. As well, the smaller sections on the cutting edge get a much better scrape, less salt and gravel needed. If there was a 30% fuel loss, it's made up for easily by cost of material. Though, I never noticed a major fuel difference at all. I've ran every plow on the market from cage straight plow, the joke that is snow Wolf, metal pless. Everything. I currently use an HLA, which is a cheaper version of the metal pless. Does nearly as good a job but half the price. Still foldable wings and such, just doesn't cut as well.

Considering the Arctic is 1/2 money, virtually no moving parts. I’ve got 2 I’ve used for 11 years and only broke 2 blocks from smacking a curb (my fault). Metal pless I’d never let an employee use. That’s an owner operator machine only. Both plows are much better than any other plow on the market.

Love the comparison. I think I would prefer the metalples. I like the ability to change the width and go from a plow to a pusher. But at the same time I run a komatsu loader and it would be easier to hook up to an arctic. For now I just use my bucket to do my 8-10 acre work yard

We run both on wheeled skid loaders. A 611 metal Pless and 8’ arctics on 7800 lbs machines. The metalpless move way more snow if the operator is experienced in snow removal and they scrape much better and back drag a lot better, but the Arctic is a lot more productive for a new operator. I use less product on the sites where the metalpless is working. We replace a lot of the ‘pucks’ and it does depend on operator, BUT we have way heavier snow than it looks like you have. We’re a couple hundred miles off the west coast of B.C. and it’s constantly snowing at about 28-32°F. It’s really hard on the equipment if the operator doesn’t know how to shave off the stock piles or tends to ram into the storage pile instead of knowing how to stack properly. When we got the metalpless I added about 30% more properties to that machines route for the same amount of time on route. What we will likely do is get another metalpless and keep the arctics as a fail safe, mechanical backup if they go down. We had a branch T fail and it was useless. The wing just folded back and puked fluid everywhere. Got my first arctic 7 years ago and it’s still moving a bunch of snow every night. Just my $0.02.

I much prefer simple and lower purchase price. It's been a long time since I had a snow plow, but I went with the meyer plow that used a power steering pump that ran off the engine and it had two hydraulic lines for the lift and one for tilt, with metal rods in the cab, you couldn't get any more basic. Some of my buddies went for the more expensive western plows, electric over hydraulic and everyone one of them regretted it. The trucks electrical system just couldn't keep up with the demand for power even with high output systems. Besides the problems they had with the control boxes burning out quite often. The western system is twice as fast as the meyer, but the downtime and expensive maintenance costs made me feel good about my decision to keep it simple. I ran my power wagon hard for nine brutal winters in Michigan and only blew one hydraulic line and wore out one set of slop shoes.

I had a Meyer, same setup on my 72 Power Wagon. And a 69 Scout before that. Added 2 more springs on em, from time to time I'd shear the street el on the angle cylinders when shearing a bolt. After the 1st one, I doped'em up good n only had'em finger tight for quick fix. (Maybe 2 X times a season). Used to do lots of rough residential. Engine over hydraulic was always more reliable than electric. Would drop the belts for summertime. Wish the wing setups I've seen on the one ton trks was available back then. Now I enjoy my SC winters many times on two wheels.

I would prefer the arctic cuz I like simplicity ! No electrical or hydraulic lines is huge ! I will guarantee you will blow lines on those side wings if you hit any curbs or obstructions and like he said he didnt like the exposed ram cylinders. I would think the Metalpless would be more productive in certain type of snow conditions but again I like the simple and less chances of breaking with the Arctic. Great vid !

The side wings actually have like a release valve just for that reason say if your scraping your wing along a curb and happens to catch something it will fold backwards on itself no damage and other versions have cylinder protection around it

late reply watching a year later. I have had my wings slam back lots of times plowing in -30 never a line issue they have pressure release valves. The main thing running equipment in the cold is to make sure you get warm oil cycled through every cylinder before you work it. If the oil is cold and you slam a wing back something is going to pop for sure.

Let's call it what it is. It was a tie on performance. I think both products are excellent. I have installed a Metalpless on a loader for a customer here in New Jersey. It is very well put together. The property he uses it for incorporates roads and lots, as it is a residential complex. The ability to go between a 12' plow(and any configuration in between), an 8' box for forward pushing and back dragging spots was the key for them. One machine can complete the variety of tasks they need it to, eliminating the need for multiple machines. He could run a 13' pusher, but it would not be as effective at that location; too many tight spaces to work around. I think they both have their optimal applications. A large pusher is great for a lot or commercial property as shown in the video. The lower cost (both purchase and maintenance) would be the win in this commercial setting, paying double for a piece of equipment that does the same job in the same timeframe makes the most sense for the bottom line. Also with more moving parts there is more that can go wrong on the Metalpless. For the property shown I believe K.I.S.S. is always the best plan. Great video. I think the take away should be that you have to know the property you are working to find the most efficient and cost effective solution for what you need to get done. Keep up the good work!

MetalPless more versatile when when you have sections of road/drive where you just prefer a plow to angle snow away towards a curb. In just lot clearing applications i don’t see that much of an advantage for the Metal Pless. Metal Pless is definitely more versatile in a different variety of applications

I was thrown back buy the cost of the metal press. My dad just completely replaced his asv tracks-undercarriage on his 2006 287cat for $20,000.00 and he put them on himself and got 25% off the whole track system. He had 1700hrs. You can buy cheaper setups. The Artic won

They were thrown out by the Supervisor's boss because the supervisor was just being a dick. That was the last time anyone refused to move their car.

The Arctic easily wins due to no hydraulics or electronics. The name of the game in snow removal is avoiding inevitable mechanical problems. They both clear snow about the same and time wise do about the same job but the Arctic will never break down on you, huge advantage.

16:40 you can hear something doesn't sound right on Hunters machine sounds like a bad bearing on a boogie wheel. 18:33 Hunter is now missing his outer intermediate boogie wheel second from the rear it's gone..... lol 20:36 here Tim needs to feather the throttle and take the weight off the blade and his tracks will grab. The problem is the RT75 has a electronic throttle which ASV needs to ditch and bring back the pedal. Arctic is the winner but Hunter is the better operator and should get your pink slip or just trade machines.

Great video, I really liked the drone footage. Now on to the plows in my eyes, if you have alot fine detail work to do and if your a one man crew. I would go with the metal press. Now Stan if I had a crew like you that has different machines then I would with the artic plow. This is one of those videos like I tell people in the shedding community. It's how your business is set up, and how your working the job, would determine which plow to buy. Like a mulching heads works for my business isn't going to work for someone up in a mountain area, because I work in sand and they will have stone. Big difference . Its what's best each business model. If that makes any sense. Lol

Used all kinds of blades, but metal pless has been hands down the pest plow I've ever used . 6 years and counting on the same cutting edges 698 hours as of last night. A few minor problems but nothing that shut me down .These blades are amazing for detail work and clean like no other. Not trying to knock the fella that had the metal pless but he waisted time by back dragging around obstacles it's all about using the angle of the blade,wings and machine. You can eliminate a tone of time killing back dragging. not wind rowing in a box configuration and spilling snow on the clean side also kills time. Theres lots of tips and tricks to use those blade effectively and effectively that save tons of time.

I have mixed opinions on this comparison. Know get me wrong they both do a great job. I hands down believe this was a tie. When it comes to the arctic, you are stuck in the length and cant windrow or anything like that. The metapless can windrow and go from 13 feet down to 8 feet. The problem I have with the metapless is it cost double what the arctic does. It is also heavier. If I had to spend my money I would hands down buy an arctic.

It was a tie for me. Great driving. Great video. Great machines. The price broke the tie. The Artic can give you a spare new one at the shop if Murphy shows up. That is a deal breaker. Go for the spare Artic or try to explain why you didn't get your job done. 80 % of something is better than 100% of nothing.

Both the operators seemed good and had a similar approach. the time difference was so close that i would call it a tie. What separates the winner for me is the plow used, so at half the price and without hydraulic that can break, i would go with the arctic for sure.

Like artic all the way bacause of the hook up no advantage to the metalpless except for scraping by obstructions. Plus hunter best your worker never doing that parking lot.

For doing parking lots, at least solo, I would agree. Hunter hints ar great synergy when working alongside a loader. Presumably a bigger loader who can handle the big pushes, leaving technical work for the skid. Then, perhaps the ability to windrow comes in handy. In front of a loader, the versatility of being able to do roads efficiently as well as lots, could make the Pless worth it, though. But it's a pretty expensive and complex setup for a skidsteer, doing what the Arctic did just as well in his video.

You got someone to supply their machinery and labor for free to plow your lot! 🤣 I agree about patients running thin with people during a snow storm. The best time to plow is in the middle of the night when no one it out so you don’t have to deal with their stupidity.

The cost difference alone is the biggest factor. The other is hydraulic houses and electrical connections. Pretty simple Arctic is a better option.

Excellent video comparing apples to apples. I didn’t see much snow rolling when the Artic blade was full, only when half full or less. Impressed with Cat’s tract traction equal to ASV’s, which is known to be industry leader. ASV engine didn’t sound like a Cummins diesel that the ASV-75 model is said to have. Kudos, couldn’t have found to better skilled operators than Tim & Hunter - best of the best equally matched, as were the skid steers. I give Artic the win in the parking lot. But if I’m doing roadways, I ‘d want the Pless. To have one plow to do both parking lots & roadways - I go with the Pless.

First off, where did you get those lighted plow markers? Pretty cool. We have two 1236-18 MetalPless plows on the front of 2 John Deere 6115R tractors and they sure do make a heck of a difference doing either town home associations and commercial lots. Before these we would do everything with skids and trucks with Blizzard 810 and 8611's and would take a considerably longer. Don't get me wrong, I love our Blizzard plow on the front of trucks, but having a more versatile plow on the front of a piece of machinery is a must. Especially a plow that has a lot less connection points to the machine to reduce the risk of break downs. I've wanted to try the Kage plows on skids to see how well they do for town homes for back dragging and pushing because the Blizzards don't do the greatest for back dragging unless you have an actual back drag blade installed on it. Also, I feel your pain on patience with plowing, especially on commercial lots. We a few Lifetime lots that are constantly busy and people are constantly in our way and parking in areas where we need to push snow to. It gets very frustrating to say the least. Thanks for the video, I really like to watch how other companies plow snow, because I can try it out in the field if that person has done something different.
