We totaled out our new equipment & it was my fault... The damage cost as much as a small used car!?!

You were fortunate to be able to get your equipment in and out on day one as I've seen repair shops working round the clock fixing hydraulics, broken welds and damaged plows. Sometimes guys are too hard on equipment or not familiar with a parking lot and because of the amount of snow that had fallen, sometimes they would catch the edge of kerbs. I used to love plowing day and night.... although I wish we had equipment like you have now.... 👍

I see so many guys operating machines with the front tires off the ground when pushing. The machine will push a lot more when all 4 tires are on the ground with all 4 tires getting traction. Why turn a 4X4 into a 4X2?

H. White if u notice they don't get stuck even with the front wheels up and by the time they're pushing so much that the rear wheels alone can't push it then the snow would be coming around the plow cuz theyre pushing too much. And remember the rear wheels will usually be contacting pavement.

Yes, most of the time it’s more efficient to have all 4 wheels on the ground,but sometimes the front 2 wheels off the ground gives more down-pressure for pushing/scraping if need be.

It's the same with tracks. Most people put pressure on the bucket or blade to make a pass but some will not realize to pick it up and let the tracks grab to get all the push or dig power the tracks can provide.

Any time the front wheels are off the ground even a little bit, the down pressure defeats the fluctuating edge and forces it into maximum down position. If this continues you will be replacing the edge more often and wearing out the machine prematurely,

I was just about to rant on that. My old boss would be screaming (old school) you go from all 4 wheel traction to 1/2 traction and say good by to the cutting edge in half a season. All you need is barely 15 degrees on the bucket as the weight and drive of the machine takes care of the rest. Also slow down the speed, the sudden stop may toss the operator out or injure and damage the machine. I've taken a few operators to the hospital from bashing their head on a sudden stop.

Great video, I had a plowing company 10 years ago and I sent a guy out to plow. He came back with the plow in the bed of the truck and a-frame still on the truck. He was hitting the plow banks too hard at the end and broke the plow off. I lost 10 contracts that night we had one truck(88 Dakota) I had been plowing with it for years and never broke off the plow(having Cerebral Palsy I impress people on plowing!) Stan, I didn't take responseabilty when he did this, great video!! Just wish I never gave it up, plowing snow and cutting grass was like a drug for me................. Ken

subscribing because of the cat. in my neighbourhood they tore up large chunks of asphalt in 2 places, they tore off a couple mailboxes, bumped into a curbstone with the corner of the plow, it was hard enoth to actualy damage the stone and they drove in to steel railings ment to stop people from driving on the lawn and bent them badly and drove into a steel gate they forgot to open. wonder if they gona do something like that this year as well.

Working for a state highway dpt. I have seen an office lady(everyone plows in snow a emergency) grind a 3000 pound interstate plow until the bolt holes on the drivers side were just gone. The first full hole was about halfway down the plow. She put the plow down before she left the lot and did not pick it up a whole 12 hour shift. Mind you this was with double cutting edges, the front edge is 1inch thick high carbon steel. The back is 3/4inch high carbon steel with a carbide insert that runs the full length of the cutting edge. In her defense she was not a truck driver, had no desire to be a truck driver and was not hired to be a truck driver. But someone had the bright idea that all employees had to have a cdl and everyone had to plow. Even the little old ladies and gentleman who had been working a desk job for 30 years. This little money saving measure cost us god knows how much money as tax payers. I saw equipment damage just in my little corner of the state in the 6 figure range.

In 30 yrs of snow removal I've really come to love the Boss setup, they're just well built and the quick attach frames can't be beat. If your talking about anti icing or Deicing then there is nothing better than the VSI brine maker and sprayer setup. I know people are going to scoff but seriously what used to take 1000 lbs of granular salt to pretreat now take about 300 lbs and for what used to take 1800- 2500 lbs to deice where getting bare pavement that doesn't refreeze with about 950 lbs. People ask me all the time how can that work it's simple the salt is activated when it hits the ground you don't have to wait for the moisture from the snow to activated it, the best part is there's no spring cleanup and my facility's love it because the salt doesn't get tracked into the building saving them major money on floor maintenance.

Just took delivery of an F350 ext. Cab 6.5' bed 4wd 6.2L gas with 9'2" Boss XT V-blade with LED headlights and a Fisher Speed-Caster 900 last fall. It was incredible this winter. Twice as comfortable and cheaper than the 2500HD Duramax from last year. Better visibility, less suspension drop when plow is raised. Only down side is its turning radius and solid front axle. But other than that it was twice as much joy to operate over the duramax, while spending 10's of hours at a time plowing and salting. One thing I didn' notice you utilizing were amber roof beacons? Do you have a specific reason for not using them? Or did I just miss them?

Uh you can break anything plow/ pusher but like i said with proper use. I did snow sunce i was 16 yrs old the artic will scrape better than most. The little triangle cut out on each floating side wing shows position of where curl of mold board should be.If you exceed that yep you will destroy the cutting edge .The skids are ment to wear down verses the wings being destroyed just like others.Any way you wanna plow 90mph like an idiot Dont MATTER what brand you hane gonna be gonna in 60 seconds training is a must EXPLANATION is also a must but hands on traing is the best .

So I watched the video kinda disagree with you about having the front tires off the ground if you lift the arms up slightly and set the plow o. The ground so all 4 tires are on the ground you have a lot more traction and if your on un Paved areas it will keep from digging in the ground or ice exc have a smoother finish ... less were on plow and equipment and you have better reaction time if you have to lift or move out of the way ... so glad you corrected you crew on the proper way to operate YOUR gear. It honestly drove me nut every time you showed them running the way they did. The way I have explained it to guys is with a File an the edge of of a piece of metal. Take the file with no pressure an ride it along the edge of metal, how much comes off the metal. Hardly anything. Now take an PUSH down hard on that file an go across the piece of metal, that time you probably removed a huge amount. Now picture the file being the length of payment you plow. How much snow could get under the first way. NONE. Only one reason to run the old way now, it they don't respect you, an if that's the case, time to find someone else that want the job.

Searched for a comment about floating the bucket, yes you can if your machine allows. It provides much more longevity of cutting edges and it helps reduce the rounding effect on the cutting edge. If the angle is kept consistent then floating the blade creates a extremely sharp cutting edge that shaves the packed ice in highly compressed areas and reduces the need for pressure. BUT it only takes 1 of the operators to use the machine differently to loose the cutting edges angles and start the down force war all over again. The cat skid steers floated well in forward movement however the bobcat would ram lock?? when going forward with the bucket. the boom was still floating but due to the angles of the rams if the bucket had the chance to grab it would lock and not float up, when using the roller, snow plow and bush cutter/mower this was not and issue. The bobcat was one of the early ones that had all controls on the joysticks (none foot pedal). the cat was a 246c? from memory.

We have a box blade very similar to this one. We used it on a John Deere 244j and now a 324k high lift. Both use float when they operated the plow. I do have a friend who uses a regular box blade on his bobcat and he just keeps it level with the ground adding no additional downward force. Even when I scrape with the bucket on my CAT 257D I don't push down on my bucket we all found just letting the blade do the work was the best solution. It took a new windshield and a mild concussion for me to realize you can't force the blade to make a better clean.

Just a DIY guy here... Asphalt and concrete make quick work of steel. On my first snowblower I ground through the skids/sliders until the cutting blade was also destroyed. It only took two seasons in Columbus, Ohio, weather which isn't all that snowy. But, I usually do around 6 to ten driveways of the neighbors as a goodwill gesture in addition to clearing mine. Being a DIY guy, I just fabricated up my own replacement skids from scrapyard steel. But, the effort took some shop time -- not really worth the savings. However, I still didn't want to grind through skids at that rate in perpetuity. The next go-around with coming up with a solution involved outfitting the snow blowers with metal wheel rolling casters. So far, the casters are working perfectly. I do have to keep them oiled due to road salt conditions. But, they don't wear out as compared to friction skids and the blower cutting blade metal never experiences wear.

I like the back drive plow makes sense. I bought another used Fisher ez v 8.5 not doing commercial unless we get buried with snow. Respect to those doing for a living. Adding Truck-lite LED after I went cheap on halogen . Installing used equipment gives me edge because I fix what was wrong with the plow system.

Alex Behrens with the wings folded forward, if the operator tilts the blade too far forward, it will cause the leading edge of the wings to wear faster. The new floating edge compensates for this issue. When used on a truck, the truck does not have a tilt function, and not an issue.

I don't know if you read these messages or not but here's something that can save you time and money. I saw the one skidder that was riding on the rear wheels. The bucket was the standard size. But think of this machine like a farm tractor. You want it moving as much snow and covering as much ground as possible without putting too much back pressure on your bucket or blades. In other words you could attach another bucket on each side to cover more ground as long as the snow wasn't too heavy and you didn't lift it like the backhoe tractor was doing. It wouldn't have to be other buckets. Cut up old tractor tires and mount them on the sides. I'd put them on and off manually but smarter people would figure out how to do it with hydraulics. And just mount a Go-Pro camera on top of the machine, not your body. You only get the one. Thanks.

The Quattro is definitely a game changer for snow plowing. I wouldn't use any other plow for skids since using the Quattro.

The best thing to use if it's equipped is "float" or "balance" mode. We have a little garden tractor we plow with sometimes, you push the joystick down until it locks for float, bucket rides nice and smoothly across the concrete. Also if you hit a crack or something, the bucket will ether go over it or the front of the tractor will go up, keeping it from busting pins or bending the bucket.

Thank you so much for explaining how the damage occurs. I live in VT and own a very small John Deere tlb (Series 1). I use it to move snow in my own yard only. I also use it all summer with forks for tree cutting and removal. The cylinder damage that can happen due to too much force is something I had not considered. I will definitely use my gear as you showed. I had some very bad habits I will correct.

I ran a bobcat 650 with a kage innovations plow. Loved the ability to remove the cage to clear parking spots. The cage also hops up over curbs when pushing piles over the curb.

To first start off, Stan I like your recent editing of your videos. For trucks I like exspandable wing plows( preferred fisher, western, or blizzard now snowex). So much more productive. For heavy equipment I like the metal press plows but they are just way to exspensive. I lik the Quattro plow and the fast tach plows( just like a KAGE). I like steel edge plows also

Stan as your main edge wheres out on your blade, you need to angle the blade more forward to cut and stay off the shoes. This leads the door edges wearing out because guys don’t open them up more to compensate. My guys are famous for this. One winter i put on 3 sets of $300 door edges. Now i dont let them use it lol. I get 3 seasons to a set of edges if i am on the machine 90% of time. The 6-ways are the best innovation to plowing since the power angle blade.

I love Fisher Plows. The extreme V plows work great 10 years and no problems and the minute mount system is nice and quick, and strong.
