A look back at Jack Starr's Burning Starr, a New York-based metal band started by guitarist Jack Starr after leaving Virgin Steele in 1984. Join me as I take a look at their albums, music videos, and all the epic power metal tracks from the band over the past few decades, including some awesome recent material. Settle in with some headphones and check out the consistently heavy and melodic discography of Burning Starr, and the versatile solo stylings of Jack Starr.

Great to be included in this Metal School documentary, on behalf of Burning Starr members, past and present , a big thanks for introducing us to all of those who might have missed us back then, in 1984 when I started the band I would never have thought anyone would be talking about us or listening to our music in 2022 so it's really very cool for this to happen and Metal School for doing a great job on this documentary, Metal On

Great video. Like my friend Mike, I am honored to be included. I bought Jack's Out of the Darkness album way back in 1984, which is how I knew about him to put my hat in the ring as his new vocalist for the Defiance album. Joey from Manowar ended up selecting me. When I met Jack in person for the first time, I had him sign my cassette. 😁 Kind of funny that both Mike and I went on to sing for Riot and that Rhett sang for Riot also. Keep up the great work!

Bass had quit drugs and was on a different career path. Then he hooked up with a woman, and she got him to speedball one night. He passed out on the top floor of his home, during a heatwave, and had no AC on. He officially died from the heat. Bass (Billy) was a good man, with a kind heart. I was friends with him for many years. He was also one of the most talented Bass players I had ever seen, and even played a fretless bass. His brother is also a great musician. Peace

I had the honor of seeing the band perform many times and they quickly became one of my favorite bands to support back then and i still support the band members now in all that they do. I still love their music and the memories I have from back in the day. I still consider them all dear friends. So glad to come across this documentary, it brought a smile to my face as I relived my experiences with the band. I still listen to my disc's, especially NY Woman and Tear Down The Walls, my favorites. Love the videos also. Now I'll have to hunt down the few albums on this list that are missing from my collection.

@@MetalSchoolChannel No, Mayhem are Norwegian black metal, Artillery and Pretty Maids are Danish. Silver mountain had the younger brother of long time Yngwie drummer Anders Johansson on keyboard. There are a couple more… but they were either 90s or 2000s - 2010s. The non-Scandanavian side includes Malice, Aggressor, Talon, Obssession, Liege Lord, Pretty boy Floyd and Trouble. Hey you should totally do the Canadian big 4 (Annihilator, Razor, Sacrifice and Voivod) as their own mini-Series, that would be pretty cool😂

Credit to them for never going through a grunge or industrial phase. It’s also good to see their more recent stuff is much better than the early stuff, which is as unremarkable and forgettable as it gets. The newer stuff is much more competent. All in all a perfect example of the quality of the music matching the quality of the album covers.

thanks for doing this. I've been rocking the Blaze of Glory album for a while now, it's pretty solid (except slightly subpar production quality and the guitar solo instrumental track). I was trying to figure out why this band really never made it very far despite the solid songwriting ability and chops. This might sound trivial or superficial, but I have a theory that when you add your name to the band's name, as in "Jack Starr's Burning Starr" you just made it harder for yourself to gain much traction. People like "bands", they like thinking the band is all one unit, and when you name the band like that, it makes it feel more like 1 guy and 4 other random guys. It makes it feel like some random side project and people aren't going to give it much focus. I feel like this hurt even Yngwie Malmsteen, it's like he never had a real band, it was always him and a rotating cast of characters. It's hard to build a lasting loyal fanbase like that.

Sadly Metal music is littered with bands and artists that never got their moment in the spotlight and Jack Starr is certainly one of them. This guy can play and many, many more Metal Heads should be aware of him and his music. I also echo some of the comments from fellow posters in saying that later day Burning Starr is superior to the initial offerings. The over arching Power Metal sound is writ large across the last three albums and they are easily as good as those issued from bands such as Primal Fear and Hammerfall. Lastly, yet another superb Metal history form Metal School. These videos just keep getting better and better! Can you do the mighty Grave Digger soon please!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

I rocked that No Turning Back album back in the day. Seems to me it had a different cover, though

Another exhaustive effort, well done sir. Would love to see one of these for Metal Church, but I'd settle for Lion or even Masi!

Talented musician for sure, but what has forever buggin' me about him was his off-putting (to me at least) guitar tone... :-\

If Frank Vestry is similar in a vocal way to any other vocalist, it's have be Lizzy Borden.... That's just scary how similar they sound! Otherwise, keep up the good work! \m/ Enjoy it a lot!

Frank Vestry is a great vocalist and I can see the Lizzy Borden similarity but I am sure it was not intentional , I don't think any of us knew who they were back then

@@stratluvr He's a fantastic vocalist, I totally agree! But in the video he was compared with Dio, and I think he sounds more like Lizzy Borden. That was my point and I meant no disrespect over Vestrys vocal capacities. I think their all great! :) And I enjoy listen to those records as much now as I did back in the days. :D
