Metal School - Arkangel

Widely considered the longest-running Latin American heavy metal band, Arkangel from Venezuela was formed way back in 1978 after being inspired by KISS. They'd get the first Venezuelan music video and one of the first color TV appearances in the country, followed by an initial run of three outstanding albums. Join me as I take a look at one of the most influential South American metal bands, who of course had their fair share of obstacles and road bumps. But they're still going today, led by founding guitarist and drummer, the Picozzi brothers, so check 'em out!

Great surprise. Thanks for compiling this. I'm from Venezuela and grew up with those first three albums from Arkangel as part of the soundtrack of my childhood. It was hard to understand them initially, but I learned to appreciate them years later. The Issue with Gillman became a big thing and controversial.

South America does not disappoint when it comes to rock and metal. In the 70s we saw metal born here with Rock da Mortalha in Brazil and Tarkus with El Pirata song in Peru. As well as being the home of extreme metal.

I was a part of the metal tape trading scene in the early/mid-eighties and these guys showed up a few times. I always dug them but at the time I couldn't find anything here in Minnesota. Unfortunately, it's all pretty expensive on Discogs now. Oh, well. Thanks for the video!

I have an idea for a vid. The russian band Kruiz. Never realized how weird their story is. They were really popular, but got forced by the ussr to disband in 84 but came back in 86. Were alot heavier this time. Made an epic thrash album in 88, another album in 91 then kinda fell off. Then they came back here and there, but now theres 2 bands and the 1 with the kruiz name now doesnt even have the original members like the "kruiz trio" band does. Its really confusing ill be honest. Doesnt help theres hardly any info in english (thank god for google translate right?) But if anyone could make sense of it, you could lol.

Wuao!!!! Mind blowing As a Venezuelan I can tell you this guys are awesome, funding band of hard rock and metal in South America and the legend Paul Gillman (lead singer in arcángel)has a beautiful discography that I strongly recommend you specially the album “escalofrio” the guy used horror characters of Venezuelan folklore as inspiration for each song. I have also to mention that the same guy organized one of the biggest metal festival in South America there in Venezuela the Gillmanfest in which you see bands like megadeth or testament playing almost for free. Thanks for this mention to arkangel !!!!!!!

Dang this was an excellent band. I love the washy production sound.You stumped me on them. The only band this channel covered so far that I never heard before. There are at least two other Arcangels. Arc Angel an AOR band and The Arcangels with Doyle Bramhall II and Charlie Sexton. Highly recommend the latter. Great episode. Have you covered Baron Rojo or Rata Blanca yet?

Damn, Venezuela produced a high caliber band in the form of these guys, they sound pretty badass🤘🏽🤘🏽 Just when you thought I was through with the unknown Swedish bands I want you to cover at some, Proud was thrust into my mind. A point of frustration is that they woul’ve been able to be included in the (I don’t know if it’s still an upload you wanted to make] second volume if “5 great 80’s metal bands with 1 album or EP” with “Fire breaks the dawn” (released in either ‘84 or ‘85) if they hadn’t released their sophomore album 36 or 37 years later with the aptly titled “Second Act”😂😂😂

As a Venezuelan, it's cool to have Arkangel in the channel! I also suggest listen to another prominent Venezuelan band from the 80s, Resistencia. I think their sound is a bit more ambitious while maintaining that classic 80s style. And Cesar Somoza, their singer, is probably the best metal vocalist in Venezuela.

Both vinyls are generally affordable and easy to find in a metal record store in Colombia, a hm music hunter in Colombia usually have at least one from Arkangel, at my home we have Hecho en Venezuela, or at least my friends do haha. I wonder how's the business with these records in Europe for instance.

There exists another band named ArkAngel who released an album in 1980. They are fronted by musical genius, Kemper Crabb. Kemper has been a part of many incredible bands over the years. My personal favorite is his solo album THE VIGIL, which is all medieval style music. Additionally, there was Caedmon's Call, and Atomic Opera...just to name a couple. Every band and every album is very unique in style. As such, you'd be hard pressed to label his style...it's like an onion...many layers! 😉 DO CHECK HIM OUT!
