i LOVE the idea that Luthen's countermeasures weren't "flachette-style weapons" like it may first seem (which would probably have limited usage in space combat), but were actually just standard chaff designed to throw off missile and other targeting systems. Luthen boosted the engines to trick the imps into raising the tractor beam strength, so that when he launched chaff it was sucked into the tractor beam projectors at such a high velocity that just those tiny pieces of metal effectively shredded the projector dishes. TL;DR it's not a custom, niche usage weapon that launches metal projectiles backward, it's just standard defensive chaff utilized in an incredibly creative way. GOD i love this show lol

Has anyone else noticed how many callbacks to Darth Maul that Luthan made over the course of the series? 1, He exists in the shadows, plotting and killing in secret until it is time to reveal himself in the open. 2, In the last episode he does the same thing that Maul does when he is hunting the Jedi on Tatooine, he leaves his ship, raises his dark hood and zooms away on a personal speeder, exactly as Maul did. 3, The ship even has a double-sided lightsaber, for crying out loud. This in no way can be all coincidence.

I personally loved Andor but absolutely hated the Haulcraft escape. It was unnecessary complicated and more than anything illogically dumb. Laserblades on a starship make no sense. One would need to fly so very close to a ship that the risk of collision for a non jedi is massive. Luthen is no jedi (despite being very interesting and a great character). Moreover the distances in space are relatively long. The opponent has very very many shots before the other ship being in slicing range. A system that relies on the opponents not being able to aim is dumb as heck. Honestly there is nothing to justify the laserblades on the ship other than the rule of cool. Similarly the tractor beam part. Tractor beams have existed in the SW universe much before and during clone wars. Luthen "happens" to be so lucky to get caught up by the few that are using massive dishes to work. The counter tractor beam technology has never been on display before (fair enough Luthen is an atypically well off man with access to Coruscants finest wares). Still if the countermeasure isn't completely brand new then ships would have counter measures for them in place. Larger militaries for sure have access to technologies that Luthen does as well. They run multi quadrillion budgets in SW universe. Luthen siphons what little he can from the resistance funds.
@Sir_TophamHatt Жыл бұрын
I agree with the first part about the lasers, but I don’t see the issue with the “countermeasures”. Just because we haven’t seen anyone in SW use such a method to disable a tractor beam projector before doesn’t mean it’s impractical, or that everybody should be using it. For all we know, it’s luthen’s own unique design. And there are presumably other uses for it besides for escaping from one very particular type of imperial patrol cruiser.

I personally think that Luthen is a Jedi Survivor. there are several key pieces of evidence that I find most compelling. the first is his extensible cane, which attention was directly drawn to during the season finale, which looks suspicously like a 2 handed lightsaber hilt with the cane retracted. the large kyber crystal he hands to Andor is abnormally large for a lightsaber, but not so much if it were placed into a longer hilt. he also went out of his way to point out that it was "blue Kyber" and that it was a symbol of defiance against the Rakata (which btw, I am super happy about being added to canon). the fact that he is in possession of all the ingredients for a lightsaber, and apparent knowledge of a jedi suggests that he could be a jedi survivor. another telling piece of info is during his conversation with Lonni, where he states that he hates having to use the tools of his enemy and that he had sacrificed everything in the name of rebellion, meaning he once was a man of openness and honesty, two traits that would describe a Jedi well. lastly is his beam weapon on the Fondor. two red beams of energy on a rotating axis is not so disimilar to the hilt of an inquisitor's lightsaber so it is possible that Luthen had encountered and defeated an inquisitor and repurposed their kyber crystals for a ship to ship weapon.add to this the precision in which he would have to execute the roll necessary to take out two ships at different ranges on different sides of his ship, this would undoubtedly require force sensitivity of a high degree. just my personal opinion but then again I like thinking that there were more survivors than the 5 we know about.

Becoming a prominent antiquities dealer who specializes in high-end Coruscanti clientelle (like senators) might actually be the worst hiding place for a Jedi.
@TheNorthie Жыл бұрын
We’ve seen multiple non force sensitive pilots perform those moves in fighters and freighters. Luthen is a type of guy to prepare for any situation. When the situation arrives, he doesn’t panic and goes into what he’s been planning for. Andor shows without the Jedi, it’s falls to the regular people to save the Galaxy. It wouldn’t make sense story wise to make him a force user. It’s a reach to think he is even with all the antiques and exotic items he has.
@captainlockes2344 Жыл бұрын
Add to that his power of persuasion. He was able to recruit Andor for the heist, convinced Vel to let Andor join the team, got Lonni to not quit as a spy, and convinced Saw to stay put and let Kreegyr and his men die. Luthen somehow was always successful in manipulating people to get what he wanted, not unlike Palpatine.

Not Starkiller's suit, it's just the helmet. There is a second one of these suits on display in the back of the shop as well. Both suits can be seen in episode 4. There is also an incomplete helmet sitting beside the Indiana Jones' carbonite blocks in episode 8. This single helmet is missing the 'feather' details and the side flaps that the other two have. This means there are three Starkiller helmets in Luthen's shop. This leads me to believe these suits are from a warrior group and Starkiller simply took one of these helmets.

Think of the lasers on the Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry... they were likely these... their position would likely indicate they were for "strafing" runs. Flying beside larger hulled ships and slicing them open... or parking by a ship and slowly cutting through it.
@jenniferstewarts48512 жыл бұрын
hmm the more i think about it... they would/could pass for "scrapping lasers." For cutting large hulks up into smaller pices for towing... and justifying having such powerful beams by them being fixed. a pilot would have to align with the hulk, turn the laser on, start their cut flying a set course, then turning off the beam. the empire would be less worried about it as an offensive weapon and instead view it as a tool.

Just out of my own headcanon I've always thought the targeting computer was something rarely used in Star Wars because of the ability for your enemy to employ electronic warfare which would make using an 'aim bot' really dangerous. It opens you up to countermeasures, not the least of which was your predictability. This is why the Republic used clones which could think for themselves and was shown in the Clone Wars series as a weakness of the separatists with their overreliance on droids. How many command droids did Anakin destroy, he even commented on how they'd just become so predictable even after upgrades. The rebels at Yavin probably only used targeting computers out of sheer desperation. This would make Luthen a risk taker. He's putting himself in jeopardy using a targeting computer and leaving the aiming to an AI. He only has a few shots before his aim becomes predictable.
@ovencake523Ай бұрын
unlike the cheap mass produced CIS droids tho, his targeting computer hit its shots. pretty sure countermeasures like the ones you're thinking of dont exist in starwars (or in real life too) how do you jam an internal targeting computer?) And even if they do exist, luthen is anything but predictable; he uses 3 different weapons in that fight and a host of other side systems
