The Glass is either from Volcanoes or meteors which are mystical in many ways, Glass is said to be somehow related to Ebony which is literally the blood of gods, (Lorkhan in specific, so hilariously enough the "Blood of a divine" requirement for the main quest in Obsidian could have used ANY ebony) So it may be like the blood plasma or bile or whatever of Lorkhan and the Meteoric Glass could be similar from the Magna Ge or falling from the moons which are ALSO chunks of Lorkhan's corpse. Not sure why Skyrim called it "Malachite" since that's just a copper derivative. (They also made Orichalcum Orcish because they sound similar despite previous sources associating it with the Redguards) The guy in charge of the smithing for Skyrim was dumb.)

People in skyrim call it imperial. Imperials call it legion armor. Or so the games would imply. Makes sense to me. Naturally the imperials would consider it a specific armor for a specific group, the imperial legion. If you've spoken to Nords, it makes perfect sense why they'd just call it imperial. It's foreign.
@ElPayasoMalo4 жыл бұрын
@@samwhary5498 But it's not foreign, is it? Skyrim has been part of the Empire for thousands of years and they worship a god they believe was a Nord that was the emperor that conquered and annexed Skyrim into the Empire. At the point Elder Scrolls V takes place, Hammerfell is independent, and Valenwood, Summerset Isle, and Elseweyr have seceded from the Empire, and Black Marsh and Morrowind are apparently independent, which means the Empire consists of High Rock, Cyrodiil, and Skyrim (and Orsinium, but it's kinda small), which means Skyrim is one third of the Empire. "Imperial armor" is not foreign to Skyrim. That would be like saying the US Airforce uniform is foreign to Arizona.

@smittywjmj8 жыл бұрын
+Привал славных путников It's a bit more than volcanic glass like we have on Earth. Malachite is much stronger than any metal on Nirn, but also more brittle and therefore is canonically used to stud moonstone (which is actually metal, despite the name) armor. Ebony is also a glass, but is also literally the crystalline blood of the Missing God Lorkhan that flows out from his heart, the Red Mountain of Morrowind. Forging ebony armor is supposed to be incredibly difficult because of its glasslike properties, which is why it takes such a high skill requirement to make in Elder Scrolls games.

I was really hoping to see you talk about the Legion armor from Oblivion. You know, the one on the cover. I really, really like that armor. It's Tough, Heavy, and would make any soldier of the Empire a tough nut to crack. I was disappointed when they completely changed it for Skyrim. Not to mention that it's a much warmer armor than ones worn in skyrim, the land of eternal winter. The art style for Armor in Skyrim seems to think it's the land of eternal summer. This is not the Mediterranean, it's SKYRIM! IT GETS GODDAMN COLD! Cover yourselves up!

There are fur gloves, bracers, and a fur helmet in Skyrim. Fur Gloves and Boots are worn by the Stormcloaks at Helgen, while bandits will sometimes have Fur Bracers, and rarely you can find a Fur Helmet, which looks terrible.

In skyrim the armour is the akaviri armour left behind after the dragons died out. In Oblivion the blade's armour is the armour supplied to them by the emperor to be his body guards.
@metatronyt9 жыл бұрын
Beqa Bokuchava No, I own perfect replicas of both Roman imperial lorica segmentata and 16th century takeda clan samurai armour, the blade's armour has very little to do with samurai armour (only the thigh guards) and it's pretty much a full copy of a Roman imperial armour, no doubt about it.

What about we ambidextrous people who can naturally dual wield?
@sqd33408 жыл бұрын
No, if you know how to block with a sword dual-wielding swords can be much more effective than a sword and shield.
@sqd33408 жыл бұрын
Eh. Whatever. Why even do we argue about stuff like this though. Swords are completely useless in today's military.
@denogowli8 жыл бұрын
ultraboy222 if you're in full plate armor a shield wouldn't be very useful right? Though i still don't think dual-wieldning would work very well, a two-handed sword would be better i think.

I just want to point out that in Skyrim, if you can't see skin, assume there's leather or mail or something appropriate underneath. Cause if you remove your armour, your character stands there in his/her loincloth and nothing else. So it's implied that all the typical unders are *with the armor pieces. Also, it's too bad you didn't look at pictures of the other variants of the fur, iron, and steel armors too. One of the furs has you totally shirtless. Would've loved to hear your thoughts on those. :D I'm not going to knit-pick anything else, cause it's all thoughts along the lines if, "but it's fantasy! magic! elves!", and you really do great overviews on the historical accuracy of these sets.
@syddlinden89668 жыл бұрын
My favorite set is the Bosmer Armor set. It's a mod. And of those sets, my fave are the leather variants, I think the standard and Elder Bosmer armors. My character is a hunter, so he needed light sets... As to cannon, I like the leather, standard steel, steel ram's head sets. Purely aesthetic choices. The companions armour is nice too... and the Nordic set.
@Oxide-Actual8 жыл бұрын
My favorite set was always the hold guard set (solitude and hjallmarch) , it was a lightweight set on the body with chainmail underneath to provide extra protection and durability. The helmet looked good and had good plates and the spike could be used as a weapon. I liked the imperial bracers and sabatons they used because they offer more protection than fur. The armour was easy to obtain, and overall had a good look. So there you have it: The solitude or hjallmarch guard is my favorite set of armour.

Hey I got a quick question for you, what type of methods did they use historically to keep the visors up or down? Particularly the helmets where the lower face protection came up to protect the face then you could drop it down where the segments sort of dropped inside each other?

DREXIAN Very much so, infact I am planning to review those too :D
@The_Crimson_Fucker9 жыл бұрын
DREXIAN It does have some serious fantasy armor bullshit in it, no doubt, but it does have a lot of decent stuff. I think that my biggest facepalm moment was when, in The Witcher 3, when you're getting dressed up to meet the emperor of Milfguard(Emyr von Lannister), and Geralt tells the chamberlain that he'd prefer some "studded leather armor". > Studded leather armor. > Studded leather > Studded I also love how the Witcher's alternative to just wearing a metal cuirass(in previous games, at least) was to slap on like three leather ones and hope nobody notices. Because...you know...what's lighter and more agile than a metal cuirass? Three heavy, constricting, brick thick leather ones! It's funny that people seem to think that Geralt didn't wear any plate armor in the past games because of retaining his speed and agility, yet we know that he has super human strength, so much so that plate armor wouldn't actually affect his speed that much...so...yeah.

Huh? There IS imperial armour in Oblivion, geez it´s even shown at the cover of the game. In fact, you even show it in the video when doing the(failed) timeline comparison....
@darthplagueis138 жыл бұрын
Well.... But if you compare it to the middle ages... Armor changed drastically over the time, sometimes even within less than a century...
@darthplagueis138 жыл бұрын
Well.... There have been several wars which nearly put the Cyrodiilic empire to an end. So it makes sence for it that changes have been made.
@darthplagueis138 жыл бұрын
Well... There was also quite a development from the roman empire to the eastern roman empire in a short period of time. Also, just because the roman empire didn´t change armor for halve a millenia and the cyrodiilic empire is partly based on it there is no need for them to be equal in every single point. And never change a running system also means, if the system is not running for some reason there are changes to be made.
@darthplagueis138 жыл бұрын
The wanted to show that the empire has changed. And it isn´t completely random, in fact, the Skyrim imperial armor is more simular to what you consider roman armor than the Oblivion imperial armor. Also, depending on the era, roman armor has changed a lot. They had different variations of chain, plate or scaled armor and just because they had the same sets for a longer period of time this doesn´t neccessarily mean that it is the roman empire of this era which inspired the cyrodiilic empire. Also, even though inspired, there are quite some differences. Metatron even did a video on it. Take a look if you haven´t so yet.
@darthplagueis138 жыл бұрын
Maybe it´s also a regional issue? Maybe soldiers just tend to wear other armor in the province than in the central state of Cyrodiil. Morrowinds and Skyrims imperial armor look simular and are of the same style again...
