You might not be a professional mason, but it looks like you definitely know what you’re doing. I am sure this video will be helpful to anybody building a flue. You explain things very well. I’m here for the dad jokes, you always crack me up!

Just the sound of the trowel scraping against the blocks brings back memories of hanging out with my father while he worked on projects around the house. Like you, there was nothing he wouldn’t take on…….and do well.

I didn’t think about checking the existing chimney for plumb. That’s a great pointer to know. Also appreciate the slope and clean-out tips. The flue liner bit and plastic makes sense too. Masonry work has always baffled and befuddled me. Good skills to have. Thanks much

God gave you the gift of teaching. You're a natural and I suspect you've been a sponge all your life soaking up skills, education, and wisdom. I love watching your videos and hearing you explain, humbly, but very clearly, whatever the subject matter. Have a blessed day and "Hi" to Char and Virginia. 💕

When my parents had the home in which I was raised built, Dad came by every night when he got off work to inspect what had been done. Dad had grown up in the construction trades and was a journeyman electrician, so he knew what he was doing. If he didn’t like what had been done, he ripped it out and they had to eat the cost of doing it over. The damfool who was supposed to build the fireplace didn’t bother to use a plumb and level. Yep, Dad ripped it apart and had him read the riot act. GUARANTEE YOU, that house was built SOLID, and Dad wired it himself - to commercial standards.

I thought type S cement was pre-mixed cement. Isn't it Portland cement and sand you are using?
