Hey Mr. ShutterBug, just wanted to tell you, I did what you recommended and swapped the Meteor65HD frame into a Meteor75 frame with 40mm props since I wasnt happy with the default setup at all. You were right, everything is sooo much improved now. Better flight characterstics, 30% longer flight time (on stock 1s 300mha), quiter. Its a much more stable platform for the HD recordings now. You gained a subscriber!!

@@Holyfield So I bought the Meteor 65 hd and converted it just like you did and am very happy with it. Definitely an improvement and a lot of fun to fly. Love the HD footage and the sound isn't so bad in slow motion.... If I had to do anything else it would be to get a better rx because the spi receiver doesn't get as much range as I would like.

@@sebasgovel there is no soldering required for this modification. You are basically disassembling the meteor 65 and The motors unplug. I used the meteor 75 frame because it has the same holes for all the screws used to attach the motors, flight controller and canopy. Go for it!

Helpful heads up // Hello Nate, when your showing "Smoke" near your front yard, the street address across the street on the curb & street sign gives away cross street // I am telling you because that could make it easy for a bad actor to find a high precision location by extracting visual data from FHD version of this stream (I sincerely hope not) & you might edit to remove this kind of content FYI // especially if your channel becomes really well known or very popular - there are some seriously crazy weirdos near Seattle / though that part near MSFT a very low crime area // Cheers buddy & happy FPV action / I am just dipping my toes into the hobby // thanks for the quality content!

Nice one. Hoping the FC has pads for an external RX as I prefer the reduced latency of crossfire for indoors. I have the NBD BBBL with crossfire & a goober canopy and LOVE IT. Excited to check out the motors, replacing my old & tired 0802 19500kv on this, my main whoop & see how they perform with a dry weight of ~ 21g.

Unfortunately I don’t see any way to add an external receiver. SPI receivers may not be as fast as CRSF, but they are pretty fast. Faster than SBUS receivers. I run D8 which has 9ms of latency. Not bad.

@@MrShutterBug So no sign of spare UARTs broken-out on the board itself? Slightly disappointed at that, but will wait for the board to be released and their full tech specs before I lose hope. Fast is good, pretty fast isn't - when I have the choice, even if it costs me a few grams. Mine's 23.95g with BBBL & goober, along with crsf & minimortal-t which is pretty heavy, I'll admit, but it goes like stink! Must be 600+ batts through it as-is, so the new motors and maybe new FC is desirable ... just don't want to give up the stick feel of the Tango2 and the 150Hz CRSF responsiveness. I notice a pretty big diff between that & my FrSky/Taranis X9D. Tempted by the IRC Ghost for further-reduced latency and ultralight RXs, but will have to put a few more kays on the CRSF setup first.

Very interested in your "how to improve it" comments in all your videos. Really helps in understanding how build options affect performance. Would moving from a 65mm to a 75mm frame improve the same way generally (1s or 2s with or without an HD camera)?
@MrShutterBug
@MrShutterBug 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. If you take drone like the regular (non-HD) Meteor65 or Mobula6 and convert it to use 40mm props, it will have more power and get longer flight time. There is a real advantage to having those larger props. BUT I still love 65mm whoops, I just think they need to be as light as possible in order to be great. When carrying an HD camera, I think the larger prop size will be better. Cheers!

Those betafpv 0802 22000kv motors are strong but they're really inefficient. I replaced some happymodel 0802 22000kv motors with the betafpv versions on a 65mm whoop and the flight time dropped from over 3 minutes to around 2-2:15.

I too am excited about the flight controller. I really think the AIO FC is where they 65mm whoop should be. I'd be interested to see the performance with just a normal non-HD camera. I think Happymodel should have included a U.FL connector on the Mobula6 board like this one.

I bought a Meteor 65 HD and put it on the Meteor 75 frame and it works great! Great video, it helped me decide to get the Meteor65 HD as my first FPV quad! My plan was to use it as a "newbie's first cinewhoop" and practice for the eventual bigger quad with a better camera, but I've found the camera angle is very high for low speed flying indoors or proximity flying outdoors. Do you know any hacks (or parts) that would let me lower the camera angle?
@MrShutterBug
@MrShutterBug 3 жыл бұрын
Good question. If you know someone with a 3D printer, then there are tons of whoop canopies on Thingiverse that can be printed. There are other canopies you can buy too, but I’m not sure which of them would fit the Nano HD cam off hand. Good luck!
@andrewgilbertson4226

@@MrShutterBug Thanks for your response! Since replacement canopies are so cheap, I ended up shaving a bit off the front of the spare and tying it down to the front of the frame with a twist tie. It looks like a hack, I can see the frame in the very corners of the image (this will likely not be noticeable once I stabilize), but the lower camera angle makes a WORLD of difference for my control. Now I'm easily flying under chairs and landing the quad on my lap.

@MrShutterBug
@MrShutterBug 2 жыл бұрын
Is the Meteor65 HD the one that has bad range? First, I would check the little red antenna. It might be sandwiched between the FC and the DVR board, or it might be flying flat along the FC. You could try angling the antenna away from the rest of the electronics and make sure that the red antenna is as straight as possible. Sometimes I even put the antenna outside the canopy so it can go straight up. I don't know exactly which FC you have, because betafpv has made so many FC and they change which ones they are shipping sometimes. If the FC has a solder pad for SBUS, then you can wire in an external FRSKY receiver. For myself, I've been using ExpressLRS on all my newer builds. The range is fantastic and the gear is pretty cheap. Good luck!

The most interesting thing about this is the new flight controller. I had a gyro go bad on a Crazybee Lite once. It was so bad the drone would just flip over. I have not had the problem on BetaFPV boards, but that is probably just luck. They use the same MPU6000 chip, so I don’t think it is really the fault of either company.

Hello again Mr. ShutterBug! Were you able to get RPM Filtering working on this Drone? Ive flashed the latest JESC Firmware with Telemetry but no matter what I try the Drone wont arm. I also noticed that the ESC shows up as O-H-5 in BLHeli but on the BetaFPV site its advertised as O-L-5. Ive wrote BetaFPV support already but they are pretty slow with the replies. Thanks!
@MrShutterBug
@MrShutterBug 4 жыл бұрын
What it says in BLHeli is the real thing. There is no version of the Meteor65 HD that has "L" type ESCs, but the first batch of non-HD Meteor65s did. They probably just copy-pasted that part of the specs on accident. But even the "L" type ESCs can do bidirectional DSHOT if you use JESC 2.3. If you have JESC and you paid for a license, and you flashed telemetry on the ESCs, then I'm not sure what would stop it from working. Are you sure bidirectional dshot is what prevents it from arming? Is that what it says on the OSD?
@Holyfield
@Holyfield 4 жыл бұрын
@@MrShutterBug Yes I double checked JESC "ESC 1: JESC-OH5-48 (2.3) with Telemetry (2.3) - activated, licensed". If you move everything over at 75 frame does it matter if I use 3 or 4 blade props. I can't seem to find 3 blades any where. Also could I get away with using 1102 18000 kv motors? since I have extras laying around
@MrShutterBug
@MrShutterBug 4 жыл бұрын
For 0802 motors, I would suggest the gemfan 1635 3-blade props with 1mm shaft (bit.ly/2TFy9aE) or the HQ 1.6x1.6x4 (bit.ly/3mGOqbP). You could even cut down those HQ props to make light 2-blades, like I showed in my most recent video. 1102 18,000kv motors are OK, but I personally prefer to the lighter builds. If you go with 1102 then I recommend using the most aggressive 40mm props you can find. Otherwise, the extra torque will be wasted. So for 1102 I would use the 4-blade version of the gemfan prop (with 1.5mm shaft), or if you can find them the old style of prop is actually really good on 1102s. I'm talking about the style they used back when the 75X first came out (bit.ly/2TJTP5y). Cheers.

I believe the answer is yes, however, you might not be able to get OSD. You would need to wire the camera signal wire to the external vtx instead of wiring it to the FC. Your external vtx won’t have smart audio unless there is a free UART for that (I can’t remember if there is). Also, if you use an external vtx then you should disable the internal vtx or put it in pit mode to avoid interference & heat.

FRSKY_D is the D8 protocol. FRSKY_X is D16. Your radio has to use the same protocol or it won’t work. The FC has a little red RX antenna. Good question. The crazybee lite can push out something like 250 mw and doesn't even get hot, although I keep mine set to power level 2 (default setting) which works out to about 150 mw (and I have low power disarm on just in case).
@MrShutterBug
@MrShutterBug 4 жыл бұрын
It is advertised as 25mW. I haven’t tried cranking it up, nor do I have the tools to verify the output. The CB Lite does indeed have a powerful VTX, but the CB Lite has a poor antenna. If you want to get the best reception you need a good antenna (on either board). One side note about the CB Lite, I’m told that even the “25mW” setting is closer to 50mW true output, which is cool unless you are in a race where 25mW is required.

@@BrandonBeans just wondering because I built a nice 1s ion zero grav using the mobula6 fc and without upgrading my goggles and getting a middle the video seems to be the limit on my range. For reference using ev800dm and a betafpv lite radio 2. I noticed that newbeedrone has a 1-2s fc that I think can go up to 100mW.

How is the latency compared to the Mob6 HD?

I believe the Mobula6 HD has better latency then the Meteor65 HD, but I don’t know the numbers off hand.

Mobula6 HD looks better for me, the Runcam split 3 lite is better than the Caddx Baby turtle lite which I think was used or adopted by betafpv for this Meteor65 HD. Not sure about the motor, which one is better ... the New Happymodel EX0802 or BetaFpv 0802SE ?

At least with mob6hd the fpv latency is sdcard and framerate related. With a sandisk extreme pro and 1080p30 it’s pretty ok in my case.
@MrShutterBug
@MrShutterBug 4 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried recording at 30 fps. Doesn't that make your FPV video 30 fps as well? I know the other Caddx Turtle cameras do that and it feels much worse while flying than 60 fps. I also have not compared different card speeds, so that's an interesting point too. I was using a SanDisk "Ultra" 32Gb card.

Mr ShutterBug There’s definitely something wonky that maybe could be solved with a firmware update. For eg, even without the sd card the latency is there, maybe it uses it to cache memory or something weird. (Mobula6HD)
