Thanks Rob, very helpful but to add to it having been a fly fisherman and fly tier for 45 yrs if you were to put the hook in a fly tying vice it would free up a hand and be easier. Having only come into carp comp style fishing 6 months ago I’m surprised no one uses a vice

Fantastic comprehensive instructions buddy but I just can’t get 0.17 line through a QM1 eye 3 times. 12’s and 10’s are fine, love the adjustable hair though 👍🏽

I strongly recommend using 8 figure loop knots, for both knots. reason 1: loops are linearly aligned with the rig line due to 8 figure. Using simple knots you will always get loops at an angle, reason 2: stronger knot (~15% stronger).

Rob I used these rigs last night and although you said you didn’t invent it I’m giving the credit of a 15lb common to you. I haven’t fished for a few years and was a bit sceptical about the the 2” length but it took the best bottom lip hold inside the mouth I’ve ever seen. Caught it on my little 8ft TF Gear tip rod and my beloved Shimano 2500 with 6lb line and a 12 hook 👍🏽👏🏼

Never fished the method before, but as I’m now relegated to a motorcycle, I have to cut down on gear dramatically, so method fishing for big carp makes a lot of sense at the moment. Plus it’s something new so I’m exited about it lol. This has given me a lot of confidence, especially after clocking the 70 grand cheque behind you lol. Ps any suggestions for wafters this time of year (spring)?

Hi Rob, why not use a braided fishing line for a leash?
@erwinvanschilt14462 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, i've been using this for a few years now, but my main issue with this, in my eyes, is when using hooks with small eyes. ie 0.011 + baitband on a size 18 hook. The eyes are so small you can't get the line through 3 times . For big feeder tho, perfect.
@mikes95602 жыл бұрын
Easy one, Erwin. Start as Rob did, but don't pass the short tag end through the eye. Just hold it beside the hook. Then start your knotless knot. After two or three turns bring your bayonet in position and fold the short tag end back to the hook bent. Finish your knotless knot by overwrapping the short tag as well.
@RobWootton2 жыл бұрын
Nice one Erwin. As suggested try holding the line next to the shank, fiddly but worth it
@qotsa57282 жыл бұрын
Middy hooks have bigger eyes than Preston i reckon, lots better but MikeS tip is even better as Flourocarbon is still difficult
@newsmonger77 Жыл бұрын
Why use size 18 hooks? I use 12 or 14 hooks mostly. Never had a problem. Hooks are stronger if I happen to hook a big carp.

Where on earth can you buy those bayonets from . I’ve searched the internet higher and low . Any chance of a link please 🙏

Try tying an actual D-rig. For baits with buoyancy it can be better to let the bait act nearer to the eye rather than the bend. Set ups like the D-rig and KD rig do this really well. For a d-rig you would use a suitable line diameter that would allow you to "blob" the return of the D with a lighter flame, so it could be a different piece of line to the hooklength itself. For the KD you would have a braid hair with a true pop-up bait and a shot on the hair. As a carp angler for about 30 years, I want to say that the rigs used on today's method feeders are a long way from what they could be in terms of efficiency, but most of what we want to test in all forms of angling is actually very hard to test. What I would like to ask you Rob is have you tested wafters against normal buoyancy boilies? I have a feeling that wafters get easily dropped off the feeder, especially if they are not taken on the first visit.
@RobWootton2 жыл бұрын
I have true is different weight baits and to be honest I think whatever bait you use it will easily fall off the feeder unless there’s very few fishing moving in the swim.... I’ve done some really interesting underwater filming that shows this. You are probably right about the match anglers rigs not being as effective as speci style rigs. I feel it’s hard to get match rigs to work as well though with smaller components unless you have an idea
@matthewstroud42942 жыл бұрын
@@RobWootton I have seen your Edge films and the preston underwater feeder ones too. You are probably right that the hookbait gets wafted off the feeder if the fish don't get nailed first or second go. But, most "match" situations will mean rebaiting within say 15 mins anyway. For big carp that doesn't work, the rigs have to reset the trap. I'm convinced that some carp rigs actually work better once a fish has got away and the next one gets caught. I have lots of ideas Rob, just none I could advocate without testing.

The only thing I do not like about this rig is, that little bayonet or pin does not secure the bait very well. It is a bit like putting a wafter straight onto a barbless hook, the fish can nick the bait without you knowing.
