1/4 cup methylcellulite 4 cups hot water 1or 2 drops glycerin (optional) store in sealed container. Let 15 minutes to thicken before use. Keep making great videos! 😊

Thanks for the tips! I have some glycerin in the house, but I haven't used it in years. The methyl cellulose seems really smooth already, but I'll try adding some glycerine one of these days. It might be nice to have a thicker mixture.

Thank you, SO much. I wasn't ready to lose my Elmer's Paste. So much so that I wrote the company, "for the sake of many art teachers, please reconsider discontinuing the product." Fortunately I found you in a FB discussion group and voila, I get to engage with your brilliance. I have been teaching papier mache sculpture for over 20 years. My students have made animal masks and all kinds of sculptures. The giant food sculptures inspired by Claes Oldenburg are my favorite. I'm going to check out your other video now.

What if you mix clear glue in there would it make it a better product for paper mache cuz I remember when we I was in school we mixed white glue with water.

I don't think the glue would do anything useful, because the methylcellulose is already as sticky as it needs to be. The diluted glue would be a substitute for this paste, rather than something to add to it.

Hi jhonny how are doing I have a question, from couple of years when you made the vintage chicken you used your air dry clay recipe but without joint compound and it looks very good but did you put more glue in it. I know it will be diffrent from the original recipe but at lebanon we don't have joint compound so i hope the no joint compound air dry clay will work because i tried you paper mache recipe without joint compound and it actually didn't work with me because of my mixer and maybe because i used newspapers(toilet paper is way too better )

Have you tried the recipe that uses plaster of Paris? It might work better than the one with calcium carbonate. No matter what recipe you use, you can always add more glue if it's too thick. The recipe I'm referring to is this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fH23h3qGrZmdjc0 Be sure to let your paper soak for a long time, so it has time for the fibers to come apart. That should help with the mixing.

Kinda off topic, but in watching your videos I'm curious about your cement/paper sculptures. Does the addition of cement make the sculptures noticeably heavier than regular paper mache ?

Not much, but I do think they're slightly heavier. I make hollow sculptures, or ones with crumpled foil inside, so it isn't usually an issue unless the sculpture is really big.

I was wondering if I could use the unopened pot of wallpaper paste (Roman brand) on my giraffe-I’m finally ready to make my first batch of your PMC! Yay! Do you suggest your original PMC or is your silky air recipe easier to spread? And if i can use the wallpaper paste, which recipe should i follow? I’d be lost without you Jonni!

I have never used wallpaper paste for anything, so I can't offer any advice about it. The paper mache clay is much easier to spread than the air dry clay, but it isn't as smooth. A lot of people put on a really thin layer of the paper mache clay, let it dry, and then use some of the air dry clay for details, or where you really need the surface to be smooth.
