As a realtor, I can say, most clients have no idea what they're signing and it's sad. We should have stronger requirements to be a realtor. Most buyers and sellers have been screwed over in the last two years. ESPECIALLY the buyers who paid over asking/appraisal price that are now underwater for the next 5-10 years. I am forever gobsmacked at how many people sign contracts without reading or understanding them. NEVER sign anything to do with your home or anything big without hiring a LAWYER! When we were building our house, while walking the property, the contractor tried to get us to sign a BLANK "Commitment to Proceed" form! I told him to please fill it out and send it to us, then we'll have our attorney look it over. You could see his panic. He kept saying " It's a standard form". I said "I'm sure it is, but I'm sure you can understand that this is the largest purchase we'll ever make so it would be foolish not to have our attorney go over everything." @@itsme-os1jb unless a person is a complete child or mentally unsound, there is no excuse for not being able to read, especially by the age of 65. Blaming your foolish decision to sign a contract when you know you can't read is ridiculous. Sorry, but thats life. Nobody forced her to sign this. I don't think it's predatory. They are just counting on people being uneducated and foolish enough to sign a document without reading it or understanding it at all. Frankly, I think they are teaching a lot of people a lesson. I can see if they were being deceptive but they weren't even being deceptive. All the terms were right there in the contract all she had to do was read or get someone else to read it for her. She is just someone who blindly signs things without thinking twice about it. I don't know who's worse in this case the marine or the old lady. At least he fully knows how to read, but that means he just did not give care about the contract and signed it. Both of them are tripping. All it took was for the news to read like one sentence from the contract for you to know that is not a contract in your favor. This is what a lack of Education gets you.
