Man, there's something awesome about people this dedicated to amps and tone, it's like watching a master chef check and recheck a recipe and tweak until they nail that perfect blend/result. I've not always been a big fan of the Marshall sound, but I've grown to really appreciate it over the years. Great job. The MKII has that same top end and harmonic power the 68 Plexi has.
@pfrisch6030 Жыл бұрын
George, All I can say is you nailed it. Everything you would ever want in a plexi, with the added bonus of 12301. Once you made the switch to channel 2, I could tell with the first chord. For those of us who have been chasing the tone, it's patently obvious. Congratulations! Versatile but very authentic. No small feat.

Absolutely incredible, George! Thank you for making this unreachable tone available to us “normal” people. EVH’s guitar tone IS the original reason that I became interested in playing guitar and VH 1 changed what type of music I was forever interested in. You are a genius and class act, all in one. You definitely not only replicated the 12380 tone perfectly , but also nailed the 12301 Marshall perfectly as well. EVH would be proud.

I really think you nailed the natural sound of your 68 in all it's spikey highs (in a good way) and rich harmonic glory. It really does have the biting cracking sizzle like sound and has a lot more natural chime like brightness then the MKI. The MKI is still a great amp for sure but this is as you put dialed in to a much finer degree. Great job George, you should be really proud. In a way you've created a time capsule of a wonderful amp that is exceeding rare and very expensive. "She will be mine, Oh yes! she will be mine" - Wayne

What a magnificent, majestic amp. I’ve got an insane amount of respect for Metropoulos, to say the very least. And, at $3500, this is a steal, IMO. But, and this could be my speakers, but I’m not hearing VH here. When I think of the pinnacle VH tone, I think Fair Warning. That punchy, crips, percussive, just the right amount of gain…..tone. This sounds looser to me. It could be sitting in front of it, playing a basswood guitar with a Super Distortion this will accomplish that. That said, I’m completely sold on this amp. Simply owning one as the quintessential Marshall, would be a huge honor, in-and-of-itself. A huge congrats to Metropoulos for realizing this amp.

amazing sound...it's got that elusive "springy/spongeyness" that is best heard on the isolated "Eruption" tracks floating around. An interesting test of what Martin Smith contends would be to do a "master/slave" with 2 heads & hear the results...he did a thing about how he thinks this is what Ed did based on concert pics from Ed's early days. You most likely have seen this but it's pretty convincing & with the ability to have 2 identical heads, could be good.

I wonder what amp would have the least overlap (best complement) with my Bogner Helios , a DVL1 or this metroplex. Wonderful amps
@metroampcom Жыл бұрын
I played the Helios years ago at an amp show. Great amp! Plexi tone but more gain on tap and more low mid range to my ears. I would think the DVL-1 would be closer to the Helios and the Metro-Plex would be more raw, brighter plexi tone. That could be an incredible combination!
@lukerobertson10 Жыл бұрын
I actually have a Helios from 2016 & DVL 1.. there fairly different while being in the same ball park . Both great amps ..Super keen on metro plex MK2 but one would have to go to afford the other .. the Helios has a grind to it that has seen off a wizard mc 2 and a Friedman modded reissue SLP . The EQ off is unbelievable with a very good boost If this is any help for some reason the bogner cuts through a mix better But the options on the DVL are exceptional I’d love to see a comparison with on the DVL 1 and metroplex MK2. Can’t go either way although there’s a 50 watt option on the MK2. 👍

As always, great playing, great sounds, and happy to see you back at it. Fantastic amp! Not sure if you will share, but since you have discussed this in the forums often...Are you doing your Pre PI inline resistor or bootstrap master volumes here?
@georgemetropoulos5124 Жыл бұрын
It's a new type of master volume I came up with. It keeps the frequency response the same at any level. Not too complicated, but very effective in this application. It's right before the PI.
@curtisrichards1903 Жыл бұрын
Can you AB them with no hot plate and without the delay so we can really hear them apples to apples. Also does this amp have any of the level cutting that the superplex had on the tone controls or do we have full range? Also Is the 12380 gain control the same as just going through the upper left input on a four hole Marshall and then you can blend in the normal like if it was jumped and can normal be zero?

Are there two seperate tone stacks in order to do the VH settings on channel 2 or are the seperate settings just done on the same circuit with a switch to a different set of caps?
@metroampcom Жыл бұрын
The tone stack is common to both channels. Switching to 12301 just makes the tone thicker, more saturated and dripping in harmonics.
@willdenham Жыл бұрын
@@metroampcom I'm more curious about how you got the 12301 on the same board, because both channels, I think share the same tone stack or circuit. I wanted to know because I am planning to build a 68' and want to have 67' bassman spec on the normal channel, like how, I think, you put 12301 specs on the normal channel. Or how you used to do a 66' channel on the Metroplex. I'm sorry my lack of technical expertise is maybe not allowing me to more artfully word the question.

Just preordered the 100 watt MK II today for 2025. Curious when switching over to 12301, is there a drop in voltage as well or just the circuitry has changed for lack of a better term. Really looking forward to this amp. Thanks for the great work.
@metroampcom7 ай бұрын
Thank you for your order! The voltage doesn't change when switching to 12301. During the design phase, I created a circuit that acted like a variac. But it took away some note attack and every time I turned it off it sounded and felt better, more like the real 12380. So, I left it out.

If I'm attenuating my plexi down to bedroom volume, should that effect the quality of the signal when I roll back my guitar volume? Will I not be able to get the same sparkly cleans as shown in the video? It seems a little dull when I roll it back with the attenuation or when I go to IR's and headphones or monitors. I'm curious because my new plexi build is like that and I haven't had the opportunity to open it up in a band setting to check out how it cleans up with zero to light attenuation.
