I find it fascinating how Metroid games manage to present this feeling of isolation and desolation, AND YET still be so colourful and vibrant. The only reason the GBA metroid games are so colourful and bright is because of the terrible GBA screen. Playing them on the actual GBA, they're very dark looking. Not on the SP though obviously.

Og metroid creates isolation and foreboding seeing as you have no other human on this planet, only life forms are little aliens and even those are put out to kill you. Ridley only speaks English in non canon materials. It’s established main canon that Ridley doesn’t communicate in English, and he doesn’t seem to communicate in any different language onscreen either- he seems to mostly do so with writing. Ridley is also extremely intelligent, as it’s insinuated very strongly that the Meta Ridley cybernetics were personally designed by him in the Japanese source text of Metroid Prime 1 and a developer interview says that Mecha Ridley in Zero Mission was also made by him (probably as a prototype). Ridley also definitely doesn’t have any offspring and seems to be the sole surviving member of whatever species he is, as the Federation did not recognize the infant form of Ridley.

To me, this is undoubtedly one of the best episodes of the show. While I perceived your personal anecdotes and thematic touches as a departure from the usual Completionist style (they're featured here and there, but this one seems specifically concerned with them), they sync really well with Metroid's atmosphere and tone. I may be biased because of my love for the franchise, but I was particularly satisfied by the manner in which you were able to fully describe the versatility of Zero Mission's game design (a sublime feature that I feel gets frequently overlooked). You did a great job covering the entire scope of your journey, both emotionally, in how you formed a relationship with the game and conquered your fears, as well as mechanically. Though not as superficially over the top as the Breath of the Wild, Chrono Trigger, or Undertale videos (which are all great), I think this one most accurately gets across what's so special about what you do. A top five contender for sure.

Well thank's to the Metroid Manga we know that Ridley is extremely intelligent and can speak english even though he never does in game. He's know to be a cunning and cruel tactician who's kill count, ruthlessness and effectiveness as a leader had earned him the nickname "The Cunning God of Death". Even outside of the manga, we see his cruelty and cunning firsthand in other m where his infant clone played dead to lure in a scientist so that he could kill and eat them. You really wouldn't be able to tell by his portrayal in game but Ridley is utterly brutal.

I really enjoyed Super Metroid so I gotta ask, should I try Metroid: Zero Mission, or Samus Returns?

Both are great. Zero mission is a little shorter, easier, and holds your hand more.

Just get all the Metroid games. Even Other M is at least worth the experience, to say nothing of its quality. I feel like it's necessary if you want to understand what the Metroid fanbase is going through at the moment.

I love Metroid. It's by far my favorite video game franchise of all time. But this game, this game right here defines the whole series for me. It may never be regarded in such high esteem as Super Metroid, it might not be as revolutionary as Prime, but this game is my absolute favorite because of the expanded backstory, perfect pacing, and ridiculous replay-ability. This game is a complete love letter to long time fans that played the first few games back when we were kids and a perfect representation of the series for newcomers alike. Not only is this my favorite Metroid game, it's my favorite video game of all time. This game means the world to me so thank you for giving it some time shine(spark).

Good job Jirard! I played this game just about to leave high school back in 2004, I still remember beating Metroid Fusion (took me a while, even tho I loved Super Metroid) then Zero Mission came out and I loved it even more. Those two game boy advance Metroid games are a real gift from Nintendo. There hadnt been 2d Metroid games since super Metroid when I was a kid back in 1994 at that point, I had waited basically 8-10 years for Fusion and Zero Mission.

I've heard it's a VERY big game, layer that on top of different endings that come with different social links, your going to have quite a few play thoughs, which also means a very long wait.

Manic Panic1 Yeah, I’m at over 140 hours on my first play through and only on the 5th dungeon.
@gryffehondor42365 жыл бұрын
Eh, 1000 hours ? I don't really buy it... Beating the game on the hardest difficulty 'only' took me 110 hours, and by that point I had all my stats maxed, a bunch of social links maxed and an almost complete compendium. Given what was left for me to do (a bunch of books to read, video games to beat, a dozen social links to max and a few end-game and fusion personas to gather), a 100% of the game is easily doable in under 200 hours without a guide like I did, and definitely shouldn't take less than 300 hours. That he's reaching a thousand hours to complete it is a load of bullshit.

Jirard - I've been subscribed for years, but really want to tell you how much I loved this video. If this episode is an indicator of the quality to come from future episodes, you have totally revitalized my love for your channel. The writing felt sharper and more mature, and the choice to frame the video's sections with a more minimalist theme (especially fitting for a Metroid review) was excellent. I also personally applaud the choice to cut back a little on the silly joke rants. You're a funny guy, but I think those moments are most humorous when used sparingly - like your Ridley rant at 7:08, which was perfect (and even there, the humor felt more polished in small ways, like the choice to suddenly cut yourself off mid-sentence with a jumpcut.) You even upped your fashion game - the sport jackets are a great, more distinguished look! But the unique Completionist perspective that separates your channel from other general video game review shows was still shining strong throughout, along with your wonderful passion for gaming. Really looking forward to what comes next!
