VTA (Valley Transport Authority) is one of the worst and failed commute systems in the USA. It is a money loser and have minimum ridership per capacity. This will be a really bad way to move forward given that we already have heavy traffic on Indian roads. It gets late because of traffic issues on road and therefore doesn't allow much ridership. Indian government needs to revisit this.

In short Metrolite is an improved version on Indian Suburban rail with its own dedicated trains and tracks. This same concept CMRL is kind of using in phase 4 (Chennai beach to St.Thomas Mount) by taking over existing MRTS stations to cut down on the cost.

Today while travelling via Maa flyover I was looking at the progress of new garia dumdum line. There was a single man welding joints while 10-12 people where chatting both during going morning and coming back in evening. This made my blood boil. Just ignore the useless state government,if Indian Railways also ignore us like this, not even a metrolite can save this city from dying. Piyush ki is shamelessly doing publicity of underwater metro while a single man is working on another line. Just kick IR already. I just want a comfortable ride, why should people suffer? People should come together to fight Indian railways and save Kolkata metro. Remember India's first metro is going down the gutter because of this atrocious lazy IR. I just demand a dmrc like authority independent with moud. Why such easy things takes much time?

if you did nor know, our trams with 2 cars could carry enough passengers that would fit in 3 buses. And like trams, these are having same speed and same type electrification : 60 kmph, and DC overhead line. the thing is we need separate platforms and separate way for passengers to come to the road. I really think this would be suitable for Kolkata because Kolkata is the only city in India which still has a tram network so it would therefore in my opinion be most appropriate for Kolkata among the bigger cities in India. Rather than neglecting the system to the point of either letting it die off completely over the coming years or just keeping it as a heritage tram system which they currently seem to be doing, they really should upgrade the existing lines to light rail/metrolite standard with modern trams (by modern I mean, long trams capable of faster speeds), tram stops and reserved lines like in other parts of the world (they could still keep some of the older trams for tourism or have a dedicated line for that).

Well, first of all bedesh is bedesh and sodesh is sodesh. San Jose is a perfectly planned city with wide roads. No matter small or big, Indian Roads r too narrow to allow grade separated Railway in-between it. Otherwise, Tramways through roads can be constructed. Earlier also Indian Government has proposed a lot of great public transportation systems but none succecced. Metro surprisingly did but even Monorail failed so did the SkyBus in Marmagao. Though I would love to see such innovative public transportation systems in India, but Cities like Durgapur and Chandigarh are only suitable for such systems. People Movers are also a good choice for really low budget public Rail transportation system. Great video anyway

The line between LRT and tram have never been clearly defined. The experience of using this mode of PT will depends on how the detailed plan is done. LRT could be completely separated from the nearby traffic. It depends how much you wanna spend. Will you be willing to construct elevated tracks bypassing the traffic? Etc. In East Asian countries and USA, similar systems are usually recently built, so they are called light rail/LRT. Older systems in Europe and Australia (Melbourne) are usually called trams.

There is a major difference: tram runs with traffic. Metro lite/LRT runs in a separated lane from traffic

Basically, Meteolite is an UPGRADED TRAMWAYS SYSTEM.

So its just a tramway but safer or grade-separated than its European counterparts

Metrolite won't work in india. It's like minibuses which are always crowded & ultimately people prefer to use their own transport.

I don't think Metrolite is suitable for Indian Roads bcz local interconnected roads r not wider enough. Elevated tracks and underground tracks r most suitable and reliable for Metro projects.

Good for tier 2 and tier 3 cities. Cities like mumbai and delhi has no space for cars forget about using this on road. They need to rehabilitate lot of people.
