VTA (Valley Transport Authority) is one of the worst and failed commute systems in the USA. It is a money loser and have minimum ridership per capacity. This will be a really bad way to move forward given that we already have heavy traffic on Indian roads. It gets late because of traffic issues on road and therefore doesn't allow much ridership. Indian government needs to revisit this.

I really think this would be suitable for Kolkata because Kolkata is the only city in India which still has a tram network so it would therefore in my opinion be most appropriate for Kolkata among the bigger cities in India. Rather than neglecting the system to the point of either letting it die off completely over the coming years or just keeping it as a heritage tram system which they currently seem to be doing, they really should upgrade the existing lines to light rail/metrolite standard with modern trams (by modern I mean, long trams capable of faster speeds), tram stops and reserved lines like in other parts of the world (they could still keep some of the older trams for tourism or have a dedicated line for that).

Well, first of all bedesh is bedesh and sodesh is sodesh. San Jose is a perfectly planned city with wide roads. No matter small or big, Indian Roads r too narrow to allow grade separated Railway in-between it. Otherwise, Tramways through roads can be constructed. Earlier also Indian Government has proposed a lot of great public transportation systems but none succecced. Metro surprisingly did but even Monorail failed so did the SkyBus in Marmagao.
