As a fellow PT, thanks for the video! I recently relied on this video to help my son with some respiratory issues. I got a brief introduction to this in school, but have not used it in clinic so I needed some guidance. Great explanation!

I Have Massive Fluid build up & chrilonic bronchitis & chonic sinitis So I can absolutely say that I USE TO BE ABLE TO GET THE FLUID OUT ON MY OWN BUT NOT IT HAS BECAME ALOT HARDER FOR ME TO GET THE FLUID OUT & IVE BEEN BEDRIDDEN SICK SINCE COVID HAPPENED & I CAN ABSOLUTLEY Say that doing these drainage positions can massively help get that crap out I suggest using an inhaler before soing your position or a breathing treatment & Also not eating an hour before because you dont want to be throwing up food along with the mucus & there is a RISK of some of that throw up getting in your lungs & THATS REALLY DANGEROUS So i suggest Wake up & use your inhaler or breathing treatment Then do you position drainage as much as desired & try to spit out & cough up stuff after each position or during ...then go about your day & then an hour or so after your last meal of the day Do this process again Its a PAIN IN THE BUTT BUT.....ITS MUCH BETTER THAN NOT HAVING THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF OXYGEN SATURATION & YOUR ORGANS SUFFERING FROM IT..NOT TOP MENTION FEELING HORRIBLY SICK WITH INFECTIONS & IMMFLAMATION ALL THE TIME & MASSIVE PANIC ATTACKS GOD BLESS EVERYONE THAT SUFFERS FROM THIS

Steam yourself up first to dilute/ thin' the secretions, cardiac and kidney disease considerations aside. An otc under 20 buck Walliemart steamer can do wonders. Read instructions especially regulating the steam amount and duration.

Not very clear the part where he has disclaimers.. is he saying DOn't do it if you have cough or shortness of breath or the opposite??

Do it if you have cough or shortness of breath.
@stevenrogers90346 ай бұрын
@@jenniferduncan2371 shortness of breath is a counterindication. This is done to clear sputum that can't be cleared by coughing / spitting, not to treat increased WOB or shortness of breath.

MPT: thank you for making this available online. Should the patient spit out the "stuff" coughed out?
@stevenrogers90346 ай бұрын
Postural drainage should always result in expulsion of sputum, which is its goal, whether that's forcefully or as a direct result of the technique. To achieve results in harder to clear sputum, coughing or huffing could also be applied.

How soon can we start postural drainage ? Can we do this when the patient is dependent on supplemental oxygen (with oxygen on) ?
@stevenrogers90346 ай бұрын
Supplemental oxygen should be a preventing factor for applying postural drainage. Certain positions won't be allowed due to the support from devices or will even inhibit the flow of oxygen. At least as far as my knowledge goes.

@stevenrogers90346 ай бұрын
Pregnancy should almost always be a contra-indication, maybe not so much in early stages

I have a friend with Covid and on oxygen at home now. The hospital told him to lay on his stomach for 10 hours a day. Being a Registered Nurse, I gasp when he said that. Are they trying to kill people? So I'm looking up videos for him to watch and told him to keep moving around as much as possible.

FOund any good ones so far? i'm looking up for lung cancer patient. .... is this doable or does it say don't do with cough or shortness of breath.. i'm confused of his disclaimer
@l0iar2 жыл бұрын
Hello! This position is called prone positioning and several prospective studies have consistently shown improved oxygenation parameters in response to awake pronation. Postural drainage on the other hand is for patients with bronchiectasis, either for prevention of infection or for helping antibiotic treatment in already infected patients.
@julial37582 жыл бұрын
@@l0iar right, I've also seen hiosital icu patients with COVID placed in prone position the entire duration I did their 30min exam. And I were to not move them so I guess they were like that all day long.

Laying on your stomach can strengthen then diaphragm, its actually an advised technique (assuming there are no other counterindications) for self treatment of reduced cardiovascular muscle activity.

Thank you sir for all the great info it really helps Sir, in that 20 mins of gravity assisted position that is prone lying if we want to give percussions what should be total frequency ? Like i know the rate of percussion is 2-3 percussions per second but how should it be structered in 20 mins time duration of gravity assisted position? Thanks sir.

Could you please explain what you mean by this? Are you saying this advice is wrong?
@stevenrogers90346 ай бұрын
@@SandyLoyall Head down positions generally are avoided due to the increased cerebral blood flow. Some, if not most patients in need of postural drainage techniques wont be able to handle such a position. Think of a patient in a hospital for ex.
