How would you guys feel about a series explaining each tender option in greater detail?

Before going through this video i only heard about open, negotiate and selective tender options. It is much better to explain tender options in detail wise. Thank you metroun

Are one- and two- stage tendering different options in their own rights, or are they sub-divisions of open and selective tendering. Presumably an open tender will be either one- or two- stage? Does that also apply to selective?

Hi there, Yes, one stage and two stage can be combined with both selective and open tendering as you alluded to above. You could argue open and selective tenders are sub-divisions of one and two stage tendering or vice versa. We like to think of them as separate methods which can be combined depending on the clients requirements. However, I imagine categorisation of these tender options differ depending on who you speak to.

A project partnership arrangement is the best route where the Contractor is appointed simultaneously with the design team. The Contractor needs to be ready to lead the design team with buildability solutions. He also puts an early budget in place. And then as design progresses he adjusts the budget price accordingly. The trick is to put a budget in place that can be bettered at the later design progression stages. Unlike a Quantity Surveyor's budget which is always insufficient as Quantity Surveyors lack sufficient technical knowledge to be able to put an accurate budget cost in place

I appreciate your reply. I worked as a pre construction manager for a National Contractor prior to retirement, for 40 years. Managing the pre construction process including assembling bids. I believe the Quantity Surveyors gifts are advising a Client on the Contract and valuing the interim valuations and final account. What they lack is the technical expertise to be able to understand how things get built, hence what buildings cost with particular shortcomings in understanding Contractors prelims. I recall a typical example.... Our price 104 million. Our competitor's price we learnt later 102 million. Client budget as advised by the QS 78 million. Outrageous, he told us. I asked him how many tower cranes he had in his price. He said as many as is necessary. I said we need 4. He said that's outrageous. Your colleagues do you no justice.
