Not necessarily. If you have a completed save file, you can access the Demon Shaft before fighting the Dark Genie. But really, the only benefit to that is being able to crush a boss who's already weaker than the Dark Knight.

Heh heh, I remember the first time I tried this fight. Toan was pretty much the only character sufficiently geared for it with a chronicle sword. Duked it out the hard way. Needed every single inventory slot. For those of you trying to get here, Toan is going to remain your strongest character, and as you just saw here, Xiao and Osmond are worth playing as since they are good at avoiding attacks, hit and RUUUUN!

i know that feeling i recall the first time i faced this monster. all my best weapons from all characters only did one damage each. i lost completely vary humbling exp cents i was flying thought the dungeon till that point.

The only good characters to use in this fight are mostly toan xiao goro Osmond

Osmond is the best Character for Demon Shaft. He's the only character than can attack while moving at the same time. His machine gun type weapons are also the only weapons that can trigger the abilities Critical, Poison, and Stop the fastest (since it hits so many times per second). With Stamina on, Osmond also fires pretty fast with his energy bolt type weapons. On the Back Floors 81-99, most of the monsters can kill you in one hit so getting near them is not a good idea.

Definitley. Esepcially just getting up there is such a chore, that any reason to play more is pretty much gone. My first playthough was legit blind playthrough: over 200 saves, and maxed out the clock.

Its possible to use toan for the whole fight. Hint: When you release a charge attack, u r invincible (as toan). I had a Chronicle Sword and it took a while but it worked out.

I think when/if you play a second time after just beating the game, you can go to the demon shaft BEFORE you actually beat the main game. So technically you can get the Chronicle 2 before the main game ends.

@jerongordon I never came across a flapping duster. I have the US version of the game and there was a rumor that they took out the flapping dusters for that release. Do you know if this is true? I must have spend twenty hours or so down in the gallery of time trying to find one of those things when i first played the game.

in the English version, there was a bug so they cant never fix it or be programmed to the game, so instead, they gave us demon shaft.

@mev1978 nice. i would use a drans feather and have ungaga slice the pendragon with babels spear and then use xiao with super steve for his commentary!! i live super steve and i used him during every boss fight. he like.. keeps ya company. but it took me ten minutesfor the battle because i didnt upgrade steve with the broken dagger glitch. i found a bunch of flapping dusters and got about 32 gems in the gallery of time.

Actually an easy strategy to beat him is to charge your main characters special attack (the spiral attack) up and then when you release by the Knight, it does good damage to him and it doesn't hurt your character or risk breaking your weapon. It was pretty much all I came up with years ago when I first played through this game ^_^

@superdarklink Those two theories, with monica and max are most likely wrong. say toan was born in 1500. seda lived during the 1100s if that were true the attlamelia? would have to travel 400 years to be able to contact eachother so max would have to be born aroun the year 1700 and monica would have to be born around the 1400s right? oh and comp;etely beside the point, THIS BOSS ROCKS!!!! I remember making an extra file just so i could fight him over and over again.

@mev1978 well i exploited a glitch that when you open the demon shaft you can go to jacks store in queens at NIGHT and buy them! so just go to jacks store and see if there are any if not, reset and try again. the glitch should work.

It is possible to kill him without using Stamina Potions, I used up all of my healing items and most of my Stand in powders though when I did beat him. Funny thing is that it was Ungaga that delivered the final blow. Ungaga did have the Babel Spear though, so it must have been quite a bit of damage.

This boss was such a letdown. After I defeated the Dark Genie I only played this game occasionally for a couple of years because the Demon Shaft was so ridiculously long and difficult. So, then after many years I finally reached the Dark Knight Pendragon. First phase was just dodge and spam your gun at him with Osmond and then for phase 2, stamina pot + Chronicle Sword maxed out and boom I killed him in about 3 hits. I was hoping for a MUCH harder fight.

I know this is an old comment, but even with stamina, 3 hits is it enough of kill his second form. Based on a the damage calc, it takes a minimum of 10 charge hits to reach even 40k. If you have the save still, check your weapons, maybe you have the critical ability on your sword and you hit a critical hit.

Supernova has higher stats than the star breaker so in a way it is better, but I like the Star Breaker because of the quicker rate of fire than the Supernova.

I killed him with Toan, but my sword was super duper maxed out Mardan Garayan III or w/e, 2nd strongest sword after the one you get from this guy. I kind of had to use Toan seeing as though i never touched Xiao or Osmonds weapons. Apparantly this guy is speculated to be Toans Father too,

I often wondered that myself, they always give you the ultimate weapons for beating the last boss and in most cases the games don't have a replay element where you can carry over your weapons to a new game... I guess you could go wail on the dark genie again with the chronicle 2 weapon. Xiao had the "Angel Gear" slingshot represented as "Ange Gear" in some of the weapon screens because of a missed game typo. Osmund had the "Star Breaker" gun.

A normal wolf doing normal wolf things No it’s actually possible. For the wind attack that the dark genie uses just use Chungus’s charged attack. If you time it right, you can dodge it without getting hit.
