I’m sure this comment might get lost by the wayside, but I hope it somehow reaches someone’s heart. I’ll start by saying that I’ve enjoyed MeWithoutYou for years. They’ve always struck a cord with me. But this song... My name is Julia. My dad - my hero, protector and best friend - passed away last Friday. I had prayed to him, and to God, to give me a sign. To give me something showing me that was dad was hearing my pleas and cries. His service was this past Monday and I felt compelled to write and speak of my dad. I couldn’t just let someone else do it. I was terrified. I felt alone and without any guidance from my father or from God. This song was released just hours before my dad’s funeral. The link to it was sent to my partner from an anonymous stranger who referred to themselves as, “friend.” I wasn’t alone. My dad was with me. God was with me. This song and it’s lyrical content is just too close to my circumstance for me to pass it as a coincidence. I am so grateful to this band in ways that I can’t even describe. This is God’s work carried out through a group of such talented people. “Who do you think needs who more?” Grabs my heart every. single. time. I will see him again. Thank you for my little miracle, thank you for sharing your talent and your words with the world- and with me. -Julia

If you need a song dealing with loss as personally as that I recommend Sufjan Stevens, his songs Casimir Pulaski Day and the Only Thing bring himself as a believer of Jesus Christ against the reality of death, both songs a decade apart, he brings a understanding element of embracing faith against hard questions no other musician would dare cover with conviction

Aight so can we talk about the huge reference to the book "1984" by George Orwell in this song? First of all the title has Julia in it, which is the name of Winston (the main character)'s illiciet love intrest. And the in the verse " 'Send a couple rats' said Julia." In the book, when Winston was tortured by the goverment it was the threat of being eaten alive by rats that finially broke his will. And then after he is released he meets Julia again and tells her he betrayed her under torture...and she admits she did the same. Hence the next line "I'd have done the same to you" Seems to make too much sense not for it to be intentional. Aaron Weiss is a geinus and I can't wait for the rest of the album!

Jason Keller I disagree. I think Descensus is one of Circa's better albums and The Amulet is Circa's best sounding album by far, both instrumentally and from a production standpoint (Anthony's singing is the best it's ever been, the instruments are all clear and distinct in the mix); they more or less completely dropped the brooding nature of OLG and Juturna, but kept developing the proggy sound of BSN, so maybe that direction just isn't something you have use for in your life.

So I know the lyrical content of this song is heavily influenced by 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' by George Orwell but does anyone think that there is also a link between this song and the song of the same name by the Beatles, 'Julia'? I just can't help but think the lyric, "Standing on the lake shore, Julia. Silent as a seashell, Julia" speaks to the lyric, "Julia, Julia; ocean child calls me, so I sing a song of love, Julia. Julia, seashell eyes windy smile calls me," Not just in the use of the word "seashell" being in both songs but how they're almost in conversation with each other. In the Beatles' 'Julia', John Lennon sings of a Julia, described with aquatic imagery, calling out to him and him calling back whereas in mewithoutYou's 'Julia', Aaron Weiss has a silent Julia at a marine setting, possibly in view of another, possibly being spoken to but not responding. Maybe this link is a bit of a stretch but it certainly came to mind upon repeated listens.
