The woman who voiced Mewtwo admitted that she found the role intimidating. She knew how beloved Mewtwo is in the Pokemon fandom so she took this very seriously. This Mewtwo is undeniably female and treating her as a completely separate individual was not only better for the actress but also for the introduction of Mega Evolution. If this was the original Mewtwo, people would be less willing to accept Mega Evolution, partially out of nostalgia and partially because he was already terrifyingly close to being invincible. He could summon massive storms, obliterate entire buildings and beat the crap out of any non-Legendary Pokemon without even trying, even when he was outnumbered. Mewtwo even treated Mew, the only Pokemon who actually managed to land a hit on him, like it was just an annoyance instead of a real threat. Giving him Mega Evolution would destroy any tension because people know how powerful he already is. This Mewtwo is more gentle, less eager to fight and overall more vulnerable. She's doesn't have a violent disposition and because of this, she's never presented as being unstoppable, which means Mega Evolution actually has a purpose in the story. Because she's still a Mewtwo, it's guaranteed that she's insanely powerful without the Mega but, unless she literally destroyed the entire city by accident, there's no way to visualise the increased power. However, the movie can visualise the superior Speed whilst also emphasising that this Mewtwo is an intelligent fighter who doesn't throw out Mega Evolution just because she can. She only uses it when it's fitting for the situation.

Genesect is probably as powerful. The movie makes a point to compare the two, and Genesect is Gen 5's Mewtwo. Why can't it be as strong? Because it 'ruins' Mewtwo's reputation as the 'Strongest Pokemon'? A reputation that Arceus and the Creation Trio have already destroyed? Like, it'd be stupid for Mewtwo to 'not hold back' here anyway, since if memory serves it was trying to prevent the *Genesect's nest* from destroying the city, but I know that's not the point your making here. The point your making is that Mewtwo should have stomped Genesect, or that the OG Mewtwo wasn't in because it would have stomped Genesect, even though you know damn well the people making the movie would've made the Genesects do as well against either Mewtwo because that's what makes for an actual conflict. Genesect isn't even Mewtwo's only rival, Deoxys is one as well, and I'd be surprised if Silvally wasn't also added to that list by now.

Mega evolution 😳. This was only gen 5 Yeah, i now realized it was a "tease" to the next generation (gen 6). Just like how magearna, a gen 7 pokémon was teased in a gen 6 movie

Original mewtwo would just psych-lock him into place wouldnt even let him fly around, this always happens when the villains turn into somewhat cool guys he lost to a charizard lol the guy would solo a bunch of fully evolved polemon without moving but all he could do against charizard was ro throw some stars

The Pokemon company doesn't actually have the rights to the og Mewtwo. They do not own him so they couldn't use him even if they wanted to. It's pretty interesting, try look that up
