6:19 Those are tacos, quesadillas are made with cheese! Tamales are probably the most filling mexican food that you can get for cheap, My favorites are usually the red ones with pork meat YUM! You should take Maddie to "el callejón del beso", if you know what I mean *Wink*. And film it all! Jk. Yes we want to hear the story, stories are always fun.
@TangerineTravels6 жыл бұрын
RIGHT! Okay that's exactly what I said....I'm like...QUESOdilla? Where's all the queso? We've been gypped! haha Which type of pork meat is your favorite? We have yet to find that street, but it's definitely on our list! 😜😙 Posted the full story below on Paul's comment below, but in a nutshell, the condescending "donkey" of a waiter tried to insist that we didn't know how to speak Spanish and that's why he added extra things onto the bill. He claimed that we ordered extras (chorizo and coffee), even after we clarified before ordering them, in Spanish, whether they were included in the price-and he said yes. Shameless! Just trying to get extra tips. And the whole condescending conversation where he wanted me to say (out loud) that it was my fault and not his practically had steam spewing from my ears, I was so furious! -Maddie
@TangerineTravels6 жыл бұрын
SillyLion interesting! It’s a wonder they can take the queso out of quesadillas and still call them that. Lol I’ll have to keep an eye out for that and sample it. Don’t think I’ve ever tried that type. Thank you! That means a lot. We’re actually learning from software called Pimsleur and Rocket Languages in addition to lots of reading Spanish books lately. It’s helping a ton but we have a long way to go. Still, that guy was a huge jerk just trying to blame us for something he got caught doing! We definitely didn’t pay an extra cent. Thankfully! 😅 -Maddie

+Guillermo Ochoa Yeah he was a cool dude! We owe him 5 pesos so we’ll be heading back there this evening to pay him and buy some more tamales! It is quite the lively city. We’ve noticed that it’s a little bit of a younger crowd here than most of the Mexican cities we’ve visited. We saw a picture of the city in a restaurant which was taken around 1960 or something and the city didn’t have any of the colorful houses yet. I’m not sure when or why they decided to start painting their homes with vibrant colors. ~Jordan

I sure do miss Mexico!!! We live in Naperville, Illinois USA. Unfortunately, this requires an airplane ride and we are so fearful of covid. We used to go to Mexico 3 times a year. Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Isla Mujeres, Cancun, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, etc... We miss Mexico so much. Watching your videos makes us feel like it is still going to be possible to visit Mexico again. On another note, we did notice more and more graffiti in your videos. I never really noticed much of it when we visited Mexico. I guess as the saying goes, when USA gets a cold the rest of the world gets typhoon fever. Economically speaking. Peace.

So what ever happened at the breakfast meal ? You were almost ripped off??
@TangerineTravels6 жыл бұрын
I'll try to make this as short as possible lol. I (Maddie) ordered the huevos al gusto. There were a number of variations to choose from like "Mexicana," but I just wanted the classic version: eggs and refried beans. The waiter asked what else I wanted, suggesting "tocino, chorizo?" and I asked if those things were included while pointing to the 65 peso price on the menu. He said yes. Later, Jordan asked if another coffee was included in the price and he didn't respond, but said he could get Jordan another one if he wanted. When the bill came out, we were overcharged for chorizo and for an extra coffee. We tried getting it corrected but the waiter insisted that it was our Spanish that caused the misunderstanding and it was MY fault. He explained that the only way he would take it off the bill is if I admit out loud that it was my terrible Spanish that caused the problems and that I was completely wrong, not him. Not even joking. This was the most condescending little 20-year-old waiter I've ever encountered. Scratch that - the most condescending waiter of ANY age I'd ever experienced. So if I have any advice out of all this, it's to not let someone bully you into thinking your Spanish is the reason for any problems. It might not be perfect, but it's probably not the problem. The person who's making you feel that way might be trying to take advantage! -Maddie

It sort of strange that some Mexicans would demand you speak Spanish in their country and refuse to speak Spanish here.Here in Texas everything is bilingual so they get the benefit of speaking Spanish if they want, you can hardly get a job in many places without being bilingual. You seem to have about the same amount of Spanish as I do, is it really hard to understand it there ?

Ymm....tamales with pollo con mole and chicharron en Guanajuato, the differences in local foods, here in Querétaro there are one red chili with cheese, green chili with pork, pepper shreds with cheese and sweet tamales, more usually sweetened with sugar and dyed red, some people may put raisins but that's it. Guanajuato, seems like a bigger version of San Miguel but a compacted version of Querétaro, thumbs up Tangerine Travels, you are two Güeros CHIDOS! :D

chuckie dingwang we’re happy to share some advice if we can. We both speak some Spanish though so we don’t often run into situations where we can’t communicate at least partially. Is there anything in particular you’re worried about? Tours, buying food in markets, or something else?

Yes if you could mention about tours, buying food in markets, uber? I'm visiting a friend in Mexico but will spend most of my days alone. The friend works, so I don''t want to spend m days just stuck inside the house. I;m feeling a little overwhelmed because I don't really speak (read or write) any Spanish. Would you have any advice for me being alone in the city? Your help and advice is much appreciated.
@TangerineTravels6 жыл бұрын
chuckie dingwang sorry for the delay! We somehow missed this comment. The best advice is to always clarify the price of ANYTHINg before buying. Whether that’s a taxi or food in a market. Ask “que precio tiene?” Basically saying “what price does it have?” If you aren’t sure, you could always use your fingers to clarify. Most Mexicans are friendly and helpful so you have nothing to worry about. Also, make sure you have the Google Translate app. You can download an offline Spanish pack and use it even if there’s no WiFi. Hope this helps!
